Spain: "It's been a month and a half where the PS5 is selling more than the Switch 2 in terms of consoles."

That's only true for titles published by Nintendo, though. Nor for third-party software.

OK, I could be wrong because I had to google this, so correct me if you have something directly from Vandal, but it looks like they use point-of-sale data, not data provided directly by the publisher, so that would still mean that they don't have eShop data, which would still have to be provided by Nintendo.

Edit: To be more clear, this would mean that all of Vandal's data comes from retail stores, and not digital storefronts, unless the owners of those storefronts (Sony, Microsoft, Valve, etc.) are providing that data. This is different than, say, Circana, where they get data directly from cooperating publishers.

Looking the more at it, it would make sense. But that just means that Vandal just reports physical sales in general, so you don't have the discrepancy between PS5 and NS2 software unit sales when both are retail only.

Yes, but you do have a discrepancy if game key cards are causing third party Switch 2 games to have an abnormal digital/physical split relative to other platforms, which was my original point.

I mean, that remains to be seen (especially with the narrative being that people in general wouldn't care about it). It's also worth mentioning that PS5 has a pretty high digital ratio in Spain.

Yes, it does remain to be seen, which is why I couched my original post in a lot of uncertainty. I do think we have a little bit of evidence though based on retail vs. eShop performance. It just sucks that the eShop doesn't give hard numbers and retail sales data is scattershot as hell.

Don't make it less bad...anyway I don't think the classic but the switch is just for japanese games is a valid excuse. It sell 150 milions WW and most of players are western.
Switch 2 has basically the most power efficient chip around when it comes to handheld gaming.

Spain being Spain. Playstation has always been more relevant in Europe than Nintendo. Let's see if this sets a trend on Switch 2 or not in other countries before stating anything.

Nintendo fans here were quick to celebrate the great sales numbers that came out early, while some remained cautious and advised to look and see how the numbers are playing out over the first 12 months or so. It produced some record numbers, but that doesn't mean it will go on like this forever. We really haven't seen how this thing performs with wider audiences, yet.

This is my take as well. Interested to see the sales numbers at the 6 month and 1 year mark..

I don't think the value proposition is there for the wider market...and if Nintendo dares hike the price they will definitely kill off the wider market appeal.

What are you thinking of when you say "wider market"? More or less than 50 million unit sales?

Re Star Wars Outlaws: this game's pre launch reputation is based solely on social engineering. Once the product is revealed for what is is then the illusion is shattered. Expecting garbage like this to have legs beyond the first weekend is delusional.

People seem to forget but in many countries S1 is still twice less expensive than PS5 whereas S2 is about the same price as PS5. Low price notably in Europe was a big reason for S1 success. S2 will sell a lot sure, sure, but it won't sell more than S1, not at this price. Europe economy is overall in very bad shape.
Mario Kart isn't a big hitter?
Yes but weren't many people disappointed by this game and prefered 8 to this one? But still, it's only one big game.

A lot of Switch's sales happened because it was the perfect storm...it would've peaked on year 2 or 3 like most consoles and then covid happened...and sales shot up during the one time in modern times where people were home everywhere in the world and both other console manufacturers couldn't produce their consoles because they had just released theres. Meanwhile Nintendo had a cheap piece of hardware that was easy to make and more affordable. They were almost alone in an entire business venture. 30M units happened on peak covid.

I do think this Spain number is an exception but i really don't think this Switch is selling as much as the first one. 100/110M is my bet (and it would still be one of Nintendo's best selling consoles ever)

I'd love to know what the physical sales are for third party. I think it's pretty clear across the board that GKC are not a popular option.

Personally speaking, as a SW1 owner from launch, not much currently is pushing a SW2 purchase. The only first party title currently available that I'd buy is Donkey Kong, but that's a title I'd grab after something else more compelling get me to part with my money. MP4 is of interest, but I'm not sure that's a ( for me) system seller either. Between having a PS5 as my main home console, SW1 for Nintendo exclusives and Legion Go as my current portal to my Steam library and general all-purpose AA/Indies machine,, I'm just not that inspired. There's no BOTW 'I gotta have this NOW!' piece of software, and maybe we were spoiled by the SW1 having a title like that at launch, but it is what it is.
