It's probably more that their attention is on the Amazing Spider-Man game for next Spring and this was because Activision wanted a game out for winter, too.
I was wondering about that tie-in game. This really feels like some game they shitted out in six months for a quick buck and so they can move on to something else
I just spent 30 mins with it, and I have no idea which game LeonKennedy is playing. Maybe he accidently picked up Web of Shadows?
Game still looks great, although admittedly not very different when compared to Shattered Dimensions.
Opening Intro/credits sequence is really nice, with some great camera work.
2099 has a lot less bloom, and is overall less taxing on the eyes.
Humor is rife is almost every line.
Amazing SM: "So what I do in the past...directly affects you in the future? That's amazing! Er...spectacular even!"
Christopher Daniel-Barnes is really wonderful as 2099, much better than the dude from 80's Spider-Man who played him in SD.
In the opening 30 minutes alone, I'm fully behind the story ALOT more than the entirety of Shattered Dimensions' shitty Mysterio having chunks of a tablet that makes him grow big for some reason.
Golden Spiders are now WAY less of a pain to find, as an icon appears letting you know there is one IN the area, but not telling you exactly where.
Loving the game so far, and am glad I trusted Beenox enough to give them full price for their hard work.
Beenox is apparently working on a RPG according to recent job offerts. Since Activision gave them the Spider-Man franchise, it could be a Spider-Man RPG. Based on the movie ? Who knows.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time was an awesome surprise, proving, much like Shattered Dimensions, that the best games are the ones that arent based on a movie license. In fact, I would like to see a movie based on this game thats how cool and original the story was. Whether youre a die-hard Spidey fan or just looking for the next great action-fighting game, Edge of Time excels in every aspect of game design with solid combat, fun navigational puzzles, and one of the best cinematic presentations of any Spider-Man game to date. Check it out.
Holy shit what a lie that would be. I'm hours into the game and I'm literally just mashing square and triangle to the same 2-3 combos the game gives you. Incredibly boring.
I've played about an hour and can sum up this game quickly for those on the fence. Did you like Shattered Dimensions? If yes, you'll enjoy this game. If you didn't because of the strict linearity/lack of open world with the occasional bad camera angle, you can look else where.
I really like what Beenox is doing. The presentation has seen a nice upgrade with more cinematic camera angles and your constantly hopping between Spidermen. The writing and voiceacting is again funny and top notch. They waste no time poking fun at
the Broadway musical.
The combat is button mashy but it feels a lot faster. And as a cool bonus if you have a SD save file they give you 8 unlockable costumes right off the bat.

A Spider-Man RPG would be the perfect time to do something like we were talking about earlier. Tell a story from the beginning of Peter's life...maybe even right before he became Spider-Man.

Damn yea, something I always wanted, though I dont know if the general masses would find it appealing. But yea, lack of reviews for this game are troubling indeed, too bad, as I'm a huge Spiderman fan, and generally get hyped for every new one, though my favorite is still Ultimate Spiderman.

Edge of Time is awesome. I've been playing since it came out and Beenox did it right. The conversations between Parker and O'Hara are funny. The dynamic switching between Parker and O'Hara is perfect. There was a really amazing free falling sequence that was super fun to play. The graphics are really good. I'm not sure how Beenox did this with such a short dev-time but they did. Loving it.
Not going in at full price, but I'll give it a shot sometime. Impressions seem pretty mixed. Hope I end up on the liking it side, at least to some extent.
I agree 100% with IGN on this one. I loved Shattered Dimensions despite it's flaws, but this one was a chore. I rented it but couldn't bring myself to finish it.
Activision needs to take the heat for this one for forcing this to be a yearly franchise. They better not throw Beenox under the bus. Beenox probably did all they could in that time.
I read the IGN review and I don't Agree.
I played the game (think im almost done) and if I am yea it might be short but other than that I love the game. The character models are really awesome they way they present the game is awesome the camera angles are awesome and I love the combat.
Its a single player game so not much you can get out of it other than 1 or 2 play throughs but great game at least a 8 or low 9.
I really loved Web of Shadows why are they doing away with the open sandbox games? I wish they would add more content with games like that after I beat it I usually don't go back and do anything else.
Oh and why haven't they made another good Hulk game? I loved Ultimate Destruction and the last open world Hulk game

Hulk Ultimate Destruction was made by Radical Entertainment, who never made a Spider-Man game. I don't think Activision has the Hulk license anymore. Radical made Prototype and are working on Prototype 2, both of which play a lot like a faster, bigger and gorier (MUCH gorier) version of UD.
As for the open-world Spider-Man games, they fell into the Activision trap. They shat out a new one every fucking year, none of which did much to innovate or evolve the gameplay formula since Spider-Man 2 in 2004. So the sales were declining because people were fucking bored of it.
They'll go back to it eventually, when they see the sales for Arkham City.
Thank you, Ive been waiting to see something like this. I wanna see more and I might pick it up. This might be my first 3DS game unless I end up holding off for Pokemon Rumble Blast. (dont ask...im a big pokemon fan and I like mindless hack n slash)
edit: its not open world? hmm. never tried a Spiderman game like that other than the SNES ones. what are they like? some of the most fun aspects of the SM games to me were always web slinging around the city
I think Edge of Time wins the award for the longest
elevator shaft in the history of videogames. Absurdity aside, it was a cool moment saving Mary Jane. I also like how it directly ties into future Peter becoming evil.
+ The story. Shattered Dimensions was a funny game but there was nothing to the plot. Here the story is detrimental to the gameplay itself and the reason why I can forgive being stuck in a large building. Having both Spidermen in the same place allows Peter David to screw around with the constantly shifting timelines to create some fun plot twists for villain and hero alike.
Lots of funny bits about how time travel doesn't make sense, why everything has to be done in threes, and cake. Cake? This is no time for pastries.
The story also leads into the..
+ Voice acting. Bar none the best voiced Spiderman game to date. Barne's and Keaton's back and forth banter is always funny and entertaining. Not only that but their relationships evolve over the course of the game. You can really hear their personal ideals clashing but they still learn to respect one another.
+ Graphics and Presentation. Some might be disappointed that the cell shading used in SD was dropped but it's still a good looking game. All the Spidermen suits are highly detailed, there's some impressive cityscapes, and EoT keeps a solid framerate throughout even with all the particle effects going on. Beenox also produced one of the best game intros in a while.
+ Gameplay. Yes you do fight a lot of generic robots in a big building, but Beenox mixes it up enough that I never grew bored. They constantly shift the world and character your playing as because of time. So your always doing something different like free falling, dodging lasers, or a combination of all of it. The web of challenges and upgrade system make a return to insure a second play through. I also found the final boss a lot of fun. It's not only cool for who it is but they really make you use all your powers and abilities.
+ Fan service. Even with fewer bosses and locations Beenox nails the feel of the Spiderman universe. The games filled with in jokes and characters hidden in the dialog and levels themselves.
Like Scorpion, Sandman, and Spiderham.
Negatives
- Camera and wall crawling. Ah the curse of every Spiderman game ever made. Yes it still sucks. Transitioning from one wall to the other is awkward and I usually ended up spinning in circles. Luckily it really isn't a factor during combat although it could be a problem when doing the timed challenges.
- Bosses and levels. The sheer amount of variety in Shattered Dimensions was second to none. Which is why I love that game. However people expecting a sequel to SD are gonna be disappointed. I was drawn into EoT's story enough to accept a lot of vents, offices, and laboratories. The bosses minus the final one should have been better. They're very standard punch them in the face, dodge, repeat. There's nothing dynamic as the Sandman battle where your only in the air.
I think that about does it. I should note I prefer these linear Spidermen games to the open world ones. Swinging around New York is fun but it gets old real quick.
If I had to assign a number it's probably a 7 or an 8. I only rented this for the time being and I'd recommend everyone else do the same until a price drop of 30 or 40 bucks.
As for future games, I'd want a smaller hub style New York where you can swing around to the Bugle and Peter's home to use as upgradable safe houses that change in appearance when you collect rewards and complete missions. Along with linear levels like those found in SD. Finally Christopher Daniel Barnes and Peter David must return.

I finished this yesterday. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be. it's a tad mediocre and the combat gets damn repetitive but I thought the story was pretty fun
