How do you guys beat the game so fast? I saw someone already at level 16. I've played for 5 hours, I'm at level 6 in battle (mostly winning too), one the 2nd world of the story, and havn't even touch Salmon Run.
That is disappointing though. The SP so far is incredible, and they've added a lot to the level detail, so it's disappointing the final boss doesn't match up.
Been having really mixed matches, either we win by a mile or lose by a mile. It's really weird, in the original it was pretty consistent. Not entirely sure why this is...

nintendo is making absolute sure for me to hate this game right now
had a ton of connection issues and had to restart the switch twice, so I had to listen to the announcement and you can''t skip it.. well you can, but then you have to wait 10 seconds for marina to scratch her fucking record every time (I now hate marina, she can go to hell)
jump button not being on X is weird, and there's no option to change it so I keep opening the map when I want to jump. being forced to use the worst weapon is annoying af
then I get into a game and it's like 3 level 1s and the rest are 6-8 and of course it puts all the level 1s with our piece of shit pea shooter on the same team and I've had 3 games in a row where I've put down 1900+ of ink and the 2nd highest person on my team has like 400
Just lost like 8 of the last 12 games, with over 1000p almost each match.
That feeling tou get when you're splatting everyone and inking everywhere, then when the match ends and you see the miniscule area of turf covered in your color ink, and you wonder... you just WONDER if you were playing 4v1...
Has any settled on a controller scheme? Just on the default settings but I'm still not 100% satisfied. I was hoping they would be better ( first time Splatoon player).

Got up to level 5. Nintendo just made it hell for those first couple of matches. Nothing but the Splattershot Jr, not even allowed to LOOK at new clothing, it's a total slog to get through those first levels. Maybe if the Splattershot Jr had a more impressive special than that damn armor I'd feel better.
Is there anyway to rebind the controls? I'm not great at using the Splat-Dualies because having to flick between the B button and the control stick for aiming sucks. Reminds me of trying to play Genji and Lucio in Overwatch before I switched jump to the left trigger. I want to use the Dualies because they should be a type of gun I adore, because I love high mobility, high rate of fire weapons, but I feel like without using the dash I'm better off with a Splattershot variant.
With. When I use them, I barely cover any ground. When other players are using them, they're always the lowest scorers on the team. Either there's some bizarre learning curve that nobody has down or they're just not very good.

Lol, I'm sure there are a lot of people thankful that the voice chat isn't there by default in-game, some posts here about new players are "fantastic".

Do you get a loss if you close the game on the lobby screen? Because this is still the worst, waiting for a minute plus and the timer resetting every time someone leaves our joins. Fucking hell, how did they not change this?

Been playing a lot of Splatoon 2 since downloading it this morning. I've probably played more than I ever did of the original when I owned it so I'm glad I decided to give the series another chance. Salmon Run is way more fun than I was anticipating and have had a blast running through it. I also like that it constantly forces you to use different weapons for each wave, since it guarantees that if you're going to have to learn how to properly use them in the long run.

Is it the one that looks kind of like a flamethrower and has toxic mist and splashdown? Blasters fire an explosive round which explodes on contact with an enemy or after a certain distance. Directly hitting an enemy will immediately splat them if they're not protected, and the splash damage from the explosion hurts quite a bit as well. The problem is that Blasters have a slow rate of fire, and the explosive round will fizzle and deal very little damage in a very small area if it hits a non-enemy surface. Blasters are generally worse at turfing than something like a Splattershot
but if you kill everyone then you generally turf better than 0 players
The closest approximation that comes to mind personally is a very short range rocket launcher, except it's generally bad to shoot the floor with blasters if you want to splat someone.
Yup! There's a bit of diminishing returns the more you equip an ability (the canonical name for perk in Splatoon), so 2 big ink saver boosts isn't necessarily twice as good as 1 big ink saver boost. But yes, abilities on your gear do stack, and you will get some benefit, however small.
Hey, this might be a dumb question, but how do you get all the outfit pieces from an amiibo? Like I scanned the green squid amiibo from Splatoon 1 and I got the helmet, but how would I go about getting the other ones? Scanning it again only has the option of taking a picture with it.
You can keep scanning amiibo for gear, but there's a delay inbetween each time you scan. I forgot if the delay is once per day or depending on how many games you've won.
I am very sure you keep your Salmon Run rank beyond the current rotation. I don't think it'd be possible to grind all the way to 100%+ in 2 hours of Salmon Run if you started at 0% every rotation, but I guess I could be surprised.
No, the problem is even though the right stick is supposed to be for left to right only, the motion also lets you do left to right, so I'm doubling up on the one axis and it's really throwing me off. And even minor tilts I seem to go very far.
I think you can set sensitivity separately for stick and for motion if you have gyros turned on. Turning down the gyro a bit might be helpful, but play however you think is fun if you like.
As someone who didn't get to play Splatoon 1, do you recommend single player first? I have both the joycon and classic controller. What works best for most people? Game looks like a lot of fun.
Yeah, I would recommend going through hero mode to help you get acclimated. I personally like pro controller most, but I've done split joycons and that seems to work well.
It's your win streak with the weapon you're currently using. Once you break certain numbers on your freshness meter (I think 5, 10 and 15?) you get a big bonus in points. You can tell because you'll get a big purple bonus like this:
don't have the game yet, but some friend told me that you still can't create games... you can only join your friends, and you don't necessarly team up with them... what's up with that?
For Turf Wars, that's true. You can join a lobby that a friend is in, but teams are always shuffled per match.
You can join teams/lobbies that are set up by your friends in League Battle (which requires being B- at minimum for the mode), in Private Battles and in Salmon Runs.
Yeah I get a little annoyed with my teammates that just swim or jump right back to mid after dying when there's so much space left to turf inbetween. Whenever I die in turf wars I always check the map to see if there's space inbetween that I need to cover.
They stack, but keep in mind that sub abilities (the ones you roll for) are less effective than main abilities. Getting three of one ability on a piece of gear was common practice in the original.
Edit: New page, haven't seen an answer yet; is the squiffer gone?
Yup! To add to what you've posted, for abilities that can stack, if it's in the main slot (the big circle), it provides 10 points of said ability. If it's in the sub slot (any of the 3 smaller circles), it provides 3 points of said ability. So 1 main of Ink Recovery will always be more beneficial than 3 subs of Ink Recovery, although changing subs will be much easier. From the 3 pieces of gear you wear, you have up to 57 points to distribute for abilities (3 main slots and 9 sub slots), though you have to do so in 3s and 10s. To reiterate what I stated earlier, ability stacking will see diminishing returns, so even though 20 points of Ink Recovery is definitely stronger than 10 points of Ink Recovery, it's not 2 times stronger. This is at least how the ability system worked in Splatoon 1, and I'm fairly sure it's how it works in Splatoon 2 as well.
Also uh... I do think the devs said every main weapon from Splatoon 1 will be coming back for Splatoon 2. I don't think I've seen a squiffer in any of the promotional materials, though there is a squiffer bottle in Sheldon's shop.
I only got to play around for ~2 hours last night, but I already like it a lot I definitely like the new specials more than what was available in Splatoon 1, and it sounds like Salmon Run has a lot of positive impressions thus far.
Final question to anyone that knows, is it at all possible to change your sub and special ability? Like mix and match?
To give you an example there's a weapon I like but I hate the Ink armour as the special ability, I'm assuming I'm stuck with it. I'd love to swap it for the curling-bomb launcher.
If so it's a damn shame, it would be great if you could literally mix and match to your hearts desire.
Nope, it's not possible to mix and match main weapons/sub weapons/specials. I think it's more interesting for weapon loadouts to be fixed, otherwise players are likely to gravitate towards specific combinations instead of working well with what they have.
iirc Spyke wouldn't provide his services to you till you were level 20, and given some of the parallels thus far I would imagine Murch won't talk to you till you are level 20 as well. I'm really hoping that adding more slots can be done with squid bux.
Yeah I don't really like doing the button combo to jump to someone. What I prefer to do instead is use the gyro to target who I want to jump to and spam A. This might be slower for jumping back to spawn but we'll see.
Yes, gear you order from anywhere can be used in any mode except for Salmon Run (which restricts you to the GrizzCo work uniform anyway).
Uh, if you're talking about rerolling sub abilities on gear, I think maybe you need to be level 20 and talk to Murch. I can't confirm this myself since I'm not that level yet.
