I own the Splatoon 1 Amiibo's. Is there any point in buying the Amiibo's from Splatoon 2? Are there any differences for instance? Sorry if asked before, could not keep up with the thread. Still on holiday in Greece and the WiFi is gawddamn awful :(

just stopped in to reiterate what im sure many have already shouted, but SALMON RUN IS THE BEST DESIGNED HORDE MODE IVE EVER PLAYED

dont get cooked

Has anyone had any connection errors today? I had a bunch of them yesterday, then followed by same stable matches. I'll give it another tonight. Hopefully it's a one off.

I feel like a lot of players don't understand when to or not to super jump to a teammate. So many people are super jumping into the middle of every firefight in Rainmaker. It's pretty much certain death. It's more useful to swim quickly to the fight and target opponents who don't see you coming. Jumping in a major telegraphing. It's like a guaranteed splat and a waste of time.

Not giving the option to skip that totally stupid "stay off the hook" thing is the dumbest oversight of life.

It's to get you invested with them for the eventual waifu war, so that there's a Splatfest in the future that will probably end up being Pearl vs Marina just like there was Marie vs Callie in the first game...which ended up being kinda canon. :P

I would skip it too, honestly, as I know Marina will win as the protocol intends to, cuz she da best girl.

don't worry, eventually you'll grind your way out of C- and leave those poor suckers behind

I mean Splatoon is probably the only multiplayer game that I've played that has canonized almost everything in its gameplay, there's no reason for me not to consider my ascension up the ranks to not be part of the story of the game and the culture of the world. It's probably the benefit of being a sport no doubt instead of an actually bloody battle.

Ranked seems like a waste of time until you have everything you want unlocked since you don't get any experience at all when you lose. I played for over an hour and never won a single match.

I have a feel for the game and am generally close to the top of my team, and I'm killing a lot of guys each match and my team seems to be doing pretty well.

I've had the most fun with the bucket (or whatever its called) using it a little like I would a shotgun. But I need to put some time in to learn all the abilities/clothing/other game types.

Now for the negative, its still not hitting my shooter itch, its fun but I don't feel satisfied like I do when I shoot someone in COD, BF or even PUBG and playing the same maps over and over is driving me nuts and hearing the same three songs over and over is making me loathe the music and I really enjoyed it initially

I just played the most one-sided match so far. The other team had a couple players over level 10 while my team had me at level 9 and a bunch of people below level 5...

I can't believe people are reaching high levels still not knowing how to win matches.

I feel you, I still think that they could've improved the game massively by having a third map that serves as a wild card. Playing on the same two maps gets dull quickly, especially since there aren't that many out right now (no idea how I dealt with Splatoon 1 at release seeing as it only had 5 stages lol). The soundtrack isn't as varied as Spatoon 1 after all the updates so I've gotten kinda tired of it too.

Top player with 20 kills using the inkbrush in rainmaker aw yeah.

I actually don't really like to use the rainmaker lol. I feel more useful skirmishing the sides and killing people going for our rainmaker.

I'm hoping updates come thick and fast.

You sure somebody didn't leave? That's the only explanation for that result.

Alright, lets get this out of the road quickly, since this was a problem in S1 regarding misinformation. The exact values and curves have yet to be determined for Splatoon 2, but should follow the same behaviour as in Splatoon 1, which is the following:

All abilities that can be turned into sub abilities are stackable. They are stakable via diminishing returns that follow a parabolic function centered around a pure stack of every single main and sub ability slot having the same ability. This means that 2 mains worth of Run Speed is NOT the same as two individual Run Speed mains simply adding up, but it is still worth more than just the 1 Run Speed Main.

Generally, you can stack up to three mains worth of a given ability before the diminishing returns become too severe, although there are some fringe cases where you may want to use even more.

A Main is worth slightly more in ability affect than a 3 subs, although the difference is small.

Unique abilities that cannot be turned into sub abilties, such as haunt, Ninja Squid, and Thermal Ink, are non-stackable.

Splatoon 1 numbers, but it gives you an idea.

Man I am sick of seeing drawings in Inkopolis plaza where someone draws fucking Picasso along with "ugh drawing with my finger is too hard lol"

Don't worry - if it's anything like the first game, they'll be adding new music as well in future updates. The first game started with basically the music from one "band", and then later on they added a whole new set of songs by a different "band" of a completely different style altogether.

I feel like us Splatoon veterans need to be beating this drum more than we are; this game is gonna have a LOT more stuff added to it over the coming weeks/months/year - not to mention TWO full years worth of Splatfests.

Bummed that the wifi here at work isn't good enough to play Splatoon, it would have made these night shifts way more enjoyable...

Yep Splatoon 1 made you sit through that whole thing and they did it again here. Super frustrating that it's unskipable.

At least now you only have to listen to them once per session since the game doesn't play it every time the maps change. Plus the Switch's sleep mode, and it's not as bad as it used to be. Still annoying though, especially since I can't say "Don't get cooked, stay of the hook" along with them". Their voice line for that catchphrase is miles beneath Stay Fresh!

So is ranked mode actually fun if you don't really care about being super competitive? I keep thinking about it because of all the different modes, but I don't have much interest in ranking up or min/maxing my abilities.

Absolutely, imo Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker are all way more fun than Turf Wars and require a lot more strategy and quick thinking. They're some of the best variations on King of the Hill, Payload, and Capture the Flag modes out there.

I followed most of that...i think

don't understand this part

Do you mean sub abilitys are worth less in effect than the first main ability on gear

Yes. That sentence specifically means that if you have, say, 3 sub abilities that are all Run Speed Up, that'll still be slightly less effective than 1 Run Speed Up in a main slot.

For sure. You likely won't hit the top ranks, but if that doesn't bother you at all, than it's tons of fun.

It happens.

Sometimes you can see your team is being completely destroyed and everyone just kinda stops caring towards the end.

They're very much variations on common game modes like Payload and Capture the Flag. They have a very distinct feel to the rest of the game because all that grinding and training and warm up the game has been asking out of you gets put to the test here and the modes are all very very good. It's a blast even if you're not trying to go for S+.

Yeah definitely, and I'm looking forward to it. The steady addition of content for the first game is what kept me playing for so long. I hope the stages that they do add are more varied in appearance and mechanics though, I wanna see more Museum D'alfonsinos, Camp Triggerfishes, and Mahi Mahi Resorts type stages because I don't know, something about the current stages feel so... Brown/grey/beige and industrial lol.

I really want to see how the new Ship Stage Pans out. It looks really cool. But hell, I want to play with the Brella in multiplayer so badly. It's such a rad weapon in the single player.

It's still stupid regardless, if I wanted to get invested in that kind of stuff, I would, but all I care about to splatting my ink onto people.

Were people just going for the kills instead of prioritizing inking the turf?

I mean, both are important. If you can kill 2-3 guys, that's a pretty long power play to ink the map, which also pushes momentum because they can't quickly traverse if the map is painted.

And a team wipe with 30 seconds to go? Forget about it, you've won if you wipe them.

Yes, sub abilities have less power than a main ability. The techincal rundown is that a main ability is worth "10 points" towards the ability improvement scale, and sub abilities are worth "3 points". Thus, 3 subs of the same ability total to 9; slightly less than a main's 10.

Crash331 posted a link to the Splatoon 1 charts to give you an idea of how abilities scale with diminishing returns; it's likely not exactly the same in Splatoon 2 so don't use it as 100% gospel.

^^^^^ Que? Subs as in Bombs? Who uses it outside of crowd control or to manipulate another player into a corner?

I tried Ranked mode and had no clue on what the fuck was going on. Tower Control? Ok but what the fuck am I supposed to do. I'm over here Splatting the stage like a twit while my team mates runs off and gets themselves killed constantly. We lost the round and I have no idea how we lost.

In tower control, you have to take control of a tower.

The rest of it is you have to control the tower and lead it to the other side of the map as it's on rails.

I agree that both are important, especially on the point about momentum, but I've seen players care only about kills (sometimes even going as far as the spawn point) and not splatting their surroundings which left me baffled multiple times.

TWO bands!

Ever played payload mode in a game before, like TF2 or Overwatch? You have to escort the Tower until it reaches a defined spot on the map (by climbing on top of it to make it move).

Think you can press - in the lobby to read up on the rules for the different modes.
