You can say that about any criticism. I don't like this attitude.

"Microtransactions? Calm down, just a videogame"

This is total bullshit by Nintendo and I don't understand anyone who defends this.

But microtransactions are completely optional, so why get mad at it unless it's something gamebreaking.

Am I the only one who thinks Salmon Run will usually be daily without gaps and only has one now because the game just launched and they're analyzing data to make tweaks? It is the first PvE the game has had and unlike multiplayer there was no Test Fire type of thing for it, or previous game precedent, as in the case with the other modes

So are the numbers after a battle next to your name how many people you splatter? How about on the app?

I'm all for games showing us our play stats, but I'm not sure what some of these even are.

I'm not sure, I think they might experiment with other PVE modes in the "Salmon Run Slot". Objective based modes and things that aren't just Salmon Run's horde mode.

Funneling players into just one "PVE mode" would ensure there aren't a bunch of dead game modes that nobody plays.

Wish they allowed different input types for the rhythm minigame. Really dislike using the shoulder buttons (on any rhythm games actually).

Adding the whole soundtrack to Taiko Switch would do too, of course.

I think it's time because of the rewards. I made most of my money on Salmon Run and got several tickets.

Wait, you got tickets from Salmon Run? How? I played a bunch and just got money and a shirt. Only ticket I've seen was from the single player.

I like the timed nature of Salmon Run, it makes it feel like it's something special.

That being said; I wish they would create another mode and sub that in when Salmon run is down. I'm going to get burned out playing competitive mode.
I agree it makes salmon run feel like an event, something to look forward to. I also don't think Nintendo expected salmon run to be this popular.

How do I reroll equipment? The dude that does it says he's busy. I'm assuming I need to unlock it somehow. And I get "ability chunks" from scrubbing stuff, I assume?

Also, ranked seems like a very long upward struggle to B-. I get very little gauge from winning, it seems. Long than the original game. Do I have to make it to B- in all the modes, or just one? And once I get there, is it unlocked forever or will I get locked out if I fall ranks?

Seems like a pointless, shortsighted restriction, tbh.

Anyone?

so you can go to Murch and get the sub abilities on a piece of gear scrubbed. then you get to keep whatever sub abilities you had as ability chunks. I believe you need 10 chunks of the same ability to fill a sub slot.

I think you need to be a certain level before Murch stops saying he's busy.

I hadn't even realized this was a thing. I'm @ level 13, and I've just been equiping cruddier gear to level slots because it was arbitrarily more satisfying while I level, but that's cool to know there's a system to carry over traits to preferred gear.

So I just picked this game up today. Am I still able to try out Salmon Run? And do you have to be local co-op to play it?

It's up for general online play during blocks of time daily weekly (?) (the gate to the left behind the main multiplayer entrance), and there's also the private/local game entrance middle-right in the plaza just to the left of the arcade machines.

Edit: Crap, yeah, someone pointed out it isn't daily. That's sorta horse-shit.

yeah without being too deep into Splatoon 2 it seems like a big upgrade

in Splatoon 1 I basically had to choose from whatever gear had a main ability and sub preference that I liked and then re roll until I got triple subs which can take quite a while. now I can just throw on a piece of gear that has a preference towards a certain ability that I like, fill all 3 slots while playing, scrub them with Murch, rinse, repeat. then I can throw them on whatever the fuck I want.

so I still have to pick gear based on what main ability I like but the sub preference no longer matters in terms of eventually getting triple subs on it so I can worry more about freshness

no more plum casuals lol

It's not up daily, it looks to be Fri/Sat/Sun 2AM-12AM; T/THR 8AM-8PM or 2PM-2AM

Do you understand the "common perk" trait for the different brands of gear? I don't know if that means it's a passive perk that isn't otherwise listed, or a set bonus thing, or that the perk just tends to show up on that brand.

Honestly, I like to think that Salmon Run definitely helps to make Splatoon 2 feel like a sequel rather than just a "1.5" sequel. Don't get me wrong, the new locations, weapons, art style, moves and etc. etc. definitely help too, but to have this alternative mode does make the game feel alot more enjoyable when you have a mode where players do work together against waves of enemies. I wonder though if in the future that they will decide to make the mode more frequent than it is right now or if it was intended to be this way so that people aren't just playing that mode all the time.

Either way, I've been enjoying the game thus far and I can't wait to see the other weapons that come out later on.

is that the sub ability that the gear brand is more likely to get?

Salmon Run is cool, though I'm having the problem of it just being too easy/short to really feel substantial. I see how you grind for the prizes (I've only gotten the first two items), which is theoretically cool, but the actual gameplay of it is dirt-easy. Is this just me? Am I missing something and just lucked out with teams? Even with "bad" random weapons, those weapons are still really effective for support.

Are you the max or a high rank in salmon run yet? It can become very hectic with lots of boss spawns later.

Some abilities require 20 Ability Chunks to fill a sub slot. And it's 20,000 coins to scrub an item. Salmon Run is the way to go to make the money for the grinding required.

Pearl, tired of Marina's jokes, goes straight for the heart lol

Plum Casuals just go from mandatory clothing to grinding material, which is great!

Fuuuuuuuck was looking forward to playing some Salmon Run after work but it's apparently not on today?

Why Nintendo. Whyyyyy.

I'm not, though so far I hadn't noticed a challenge progression. If that's built in, then I guess that's good. I'm wondering how that'll work when there's a gap in job experience for available players.

From what I've heard, the more you play the mode, the more hellish it will become. Mind you that in terms of the "Short" part, I can see that too since it does feel like it doesn't last too long, but when it gets insane with the amount of enemies flooding the stage, it can be a definite blast.

Haven't gotten to that point yet, but hope to get there soon.

Salmon Run gets devious at times. Two Sting Ray guys, each on a different side of the map, with a Steel Eel in between? Nothing but short range/melee weapons and sending two Steel Heads at you? High tide with multiple Drizzlers or Fly Fishers? Just nighttime in general?

Once they start throwing a bunch of bosses at once, it becomes a nightmare if you can't kill them as soon as they pop up.

Salmon Run only started getting challenging for me once I reached Go Getter (Level 4 I think). Currently on Overachiever (Level 5 I think) and am getting my ass kicked probably every other game.

I think it will be fine there are like a handfull of ranks in total. And each time you climb up it gets more difficult. It kinda works like ranked mode so you can sadly also decrease in rank, especially if you keep get matched up with randoms who keep screwing up and leave you alone with like 5 bosses lol:/

Really starting to warm-up to motion controls after having a very hard time at first.

What got me to understand how it works a bit better was to play a bit with separated Joy-Cons.
It's actually way more intuitive that way because the right Joy-Con basically acts like a Wiimote without a pointer.
From there, once i got a good feel, I plopped them back onto the grip and worked my way from there.

Just did my first match and did better than ever in it, even though I was a bit wonky with my controls.
