Feels so good to be able to play so many matches today.

Got up to Champion for Mayo with 5 loses. I'm not sure if I want to go for King/Queen, but I think I've at least contributed. Go Mayo!

Also did some Salmon Run which is my favourite mode. Played two new modes (valves, crates w/ the alien mothership) and no one knew what to do for the longest time. Can't help but feel that the developers could've done more to explain these wave types.

At minimum, they ought to have Mr. Grizz warn you to read the manual when you've been promoted to the higher ranks as that's when they start throwing the more difficult wave types (High-tide Grillers, Everything is Cohocks and Flyfish, etc.) at you.

Also, more people need to know Flyfish can be killed with Inkjets and Sting Rays. So many Flyfish...

Man, got a pair of White Norimakis off someone with swim speed up and swim speed up sub, but it didn't get their second swim speed sub. Had a good feeling about leveling it up in splatfest, ended up with swim speed up sub :D just need some snails to add a slot and a bunch of swim speed up subs! Like 30 t.t to fill that past slot

FINALLY!

I won at Moray Tower.

.....it was against another Mayo team -_-. But I don't even care. I have been taking nothing but Ls from that level since Splatfest started. And I got my highest win average of 33/17. Thank you for giving me a break, game.

it used to be just about protecting the vertical walls people can get up and holding the middle and attacking the base
now you need to be really vigilant abut denying the inkrails so thwy dont get deep deep deep in your side without you bing able to switch the inkrail fast enough to chase

that map is way better in s2

shifty station sounds like its going to change around each splatfest until they really like it, the current version has too much open space and too much surface area when every other map is way smaller and way more cover and pathways back and forth

kind of, but for turf at least you just end of with a bunch of disconnected separate arenas as opposed to lanes that have an ebb and flow to their control.

it's also a terrible curler map lol

I think the worst maps, make it so there is one zone where if you dominate, you win, and its super hard to break control.

It's great when maps prevent that and you are forced to try to focus on multiple areas

Been going about 50/50 on wins/losses so I'm going to need to play more tonight to make up for it. Playing in handheld mode is a real struggle so I've been using the tri slosher.

So far I like the new stage but I thought it being randomized meant more than just the platforms shifting location.

I'm just making my way through Champion. Once I max it out is there any more gauge to fill?

Also next time I might consider joining Pearl's side just so that I can get matches!

I gotta say, if this is what Nintendo is promising for their online service, I think they're going to have a bad time. Since the Splatfest started, matchmaking is taking longer, disconnections are way up, and latency is terrible.

Every match I've been in has had weird deaths like in the 16hz thread, emptying a clip into someone else for a full second, only to mysteriously die.

Having shit luck today, spent a double XP voucher and have lost more matches than I've won. Mostly due to AFKers and others disconcerting. What a waste...

Hmmm... i like maps where there's a central battleground but there's ways around the battleground to flank. I don't think I like areas with disparate battlegrounds very much.

I like Shifty's shiftiness, but the fact that you can be completely isolated with few escape options doesn't appeal to me very much.

Everything has been working flawlessly for me, fwiw.

Where is Murch to scrub abilities during Splatfest? He's not in his normal spot.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

Edit: NVM, found him in the front of the crowd. I walked by him twice apparently without seeing him.

From what I understand, the way Shifty Station works is that for each new Splatfest, it will essentially come back around with a totally new layout, rather than the layout changing within this one particular event. So we get this rendition of Shifty for this fest, then we're back to the normal two-map rotations of the maps we already have, then next month or whenever when we get the Beef vs. Chicken splatfest, Shifty Station will return in the third map slot again with a different setup than the one we're playing on today.

Edit:

Well, if you want an escape option, superjumping is always available. :P

The shifting panels always connect to a way out, either on the left or right sides. The inner sides connect to the ramp that leads straight to the heart of the enemy base. So basically, you just need to keep some ink down while on a shifting panel so you can evade your enemies for the two or three seconds it takes it to connect to an escape route.

Oh sweet, so its going to be a unique stage every splatfest! That might be a better way to do it then so that everyone can learn the layout per splatfest without a ton of mixups.

I've fallen victim to ambushes with its fling attack a number of times. So it at least has that going for it.

Because they changed up the Aerial one, the Roller should disable the Jump button IMO. Worthless.

Also, Shifty Station is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE Map.

So for team splatfest, do I HAVE to have 4 of my own party or can I just have 2 and then join? Also, this is my first normal splatfest, what can I be earning and doing that is different than the normal game?

As much as it sucks to go up against your own team all the time, I do like how vibrant the ink colors are on the night maps.
