Since Mayo has much less players, doesn't that mean they have to get much less wins for their win percentage to be good considering Ketchup would have more matches? Or am I an idiot?

Wow.

I'm embarassed.

I went on a whole Team Mayoooooo is doomed fiasco in this thread and Team Ketchup lost due to math.

I can't hear you.

I'm downloading Arms.

Splatoon 2 is dead to me now.

Team Ketchup vs Ketchup wins don't even count for anything?!

I'm outta here.
This post + Twitter's salt = Despair

Marina's pout is torturing me though. STOP LOOKING AT ME! I'M SORRY!

*Woke up and heard the news that mean Mayo won the US Splatfest.

*Expected a tidal wave of salt in the GAF OT just like the good old days of Splatoon 1.

*Checks the OT and sees all has gone as predicted.

Splatfest truly is the best thing about this game :P

Omg those replies. My ketchup bros, common, how the heck are you gonna try to blame this on all the ketchup vs ketchup matches? That makes no sense. How can you not understand that everytime mayo played ketchup, ketchup played mayo...

My brain hurts...

I'm a bit confused by this as I never did Splatfests often in Splatoon 1.

The vast majority of games I played tonight were ketchup vs. ketchup. So how does that work in the tally?

But but but, you see, because Ketchup was more popular, that means they were thrown into more ketchup vs. ketchup dittos matches that didn't count. This wasted much time for that team to play the games that actually MATTERED. No wonder Mayo won by statistical noise deviation in Win % in both categories. Bloody ROBBED!

/s :D

Ketchup people... chill.
15%2B-%2B1

Guys pls

Why would mirror matches count towards their team's win rate, they would each have one win and one loss per game regardless lol

You're joking but its the truth.

Why is this so hard for everybody to understand...

Lemme break this down. In solo, there were X amount of Ketchup vs. Mayo matches, right? Mayo won 52% of them, assuming they don't weight match results based on power matchups. Same thing in teams; 51% of Mayo vs. Ketchup matches ended in Mayo's favor.

All being on the more popular side means is that you'll get matches against your own team more often, which aren't included in anything. Your 10 matches against mayo counted just as much as Mayo Smith's 10 against Ketchup.

Hahahaha I'm team Ketchup but god it's Splatoon miiverse all over again "Team ketchup only vs other team Ketchup so we got no victories"

Then how the hell did mayo accumulate victories? It's hilarious and sad...

The only time I lost in Splatfest is when it's 3v4 or when I'm fighting against fellow Mayo lords. It all makes sense.

Marina attracts scrubs. Truly a Callie part deux.

I always feel more pressure whenever I'm on the unpopular team

The world premiere Splatfest: "Oh boy! Ice Cream mirror match again! Let's just have fun everyone!"

This one as team mayo: "Every. Game. Counts. Can't let team mayo down, must defeat the red menace!"

Out of the 50+ matches I played, only one was a mirror match. Stressful!

Team Ketchup here. IDGAF. I got to max rank and got 21 snails. It was a good night, IMO. Plus, awesome new stage and music that was sheer fire. What's not to like?

So wouldn't here be more chances for mayo to get points if ketchup was more often getting matched up against ketchup?

Figures such a disgusting condiment could only win on technicality.
OH MY GOD. NO. WHY DOES THIS SENTIMENT KEEP POPPING UP. IF MAYO PLAYED KETCHUP IN A MATCH, THEN KETCHUP PLAYED MAYO IN THAT SAME MATCH. THERE WERE THE SAME AMOUNT OF MAYO V. KETCHUP AS KETCHUP V. MAYO.

Technically not. Because the amount of people Mayo would play against is still the same number of people regardless of how overpopulated Ketchup was.

So by this logic it would be the win rate between both sides at the same percentage. 23% vs 23% while the other 54% battle each other in the waiting room.

The issue is time.

If mayoguy66 has time to play 10 matches that are all against ketchupdude22 and wins 6, he gets 6 points for mayo.

If ketchupgod21 has time to play 10 matches and only 5 are against mayogrossnasty69, he can only get an absolute maximum of 5 points. The other 5 would be versus his own and wouldn't count regardless.

I think there is something to people burning out on the splatfest or maxing out their ranking and stopping, though. And if most of those are against your own team you're more likely to not actually contribute against the other side.

Each individual on the most popular team has less of a chance to contribute due to the likelihood of getting placed in mirror matches.

Both teams had and equal number of games against each other though :P

Got it, this makes sense.

At least everyone agrees mayo is white sludge.

No. The game only counts ketchup vs. mayo matches.

There weren't enough mayo players, which caused a lot more ketchup vs. ketchup matches. But it doesn't give either team an advantage as it's just tallying ketchup vs. mayo wins.

How the hell did I get 24 snails? I was on team Ketchup. Is there a way of increasing the number you get by playing beyond the king/queen rank that I wasn't aware about?

So if the average ketchup player needed to invest more time into the game to contribute to Ketchup's win percentage on the same scale as the average mayo player doing the same thing...Then wouldn't that skew favorably for ketchup? More time investment required means that the more dedicated players had a greater chance to contribute to ketchup's win %

edit - the argument I'm making here is that Mayo still won fair and square

Sure. But at the end of the day, for each of mayoguy66's 10 matches against ketchup, there was a ketchup team in that match playing mayo. Therefore, there were exactly as many opportunities for ketchup as a team to earn victories against mayo as there were the other way around. It's not unfair at all.

I mean, I'm not too upset. The vote tally shows that clearly, most people think mayo is complete trash. They just barely ended up winning via fight statistics.

So in the end, all is right with the world.
