Can you explain this a bit for a newbie? Branding?

I just assumed the ones with the three stars / slots were good

Different brands have different 'affinities' - there's one secondary they're much more likely to roll than normal and one secondary they're much less likely to roll. You can see the list here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/c...on_2_gear_guide_part_ii_farming_blows_chunks/

The best brands are probably:

Rockenburg, Krak-On, Splash Mob, Tentatek, and Squidforce (best brand in the game).

In the end the only thing that really matters is having a piece of gear that a) you like and b) has the right main ability, since those things you can't change, but having 3* stuff with the right branding means you get ability chunks of the right type faster.

and Squidforce (best brand in the game).

I'm curious why Squidforce is the best brand in the game considering what you go on to say:

Because ultimately I agree with the notion that it comes down to finding a weapon, and gear with abilities that suit your play style. So I can't see off the bat why Squidforce is the best brand, but maybe I've missed something.

Prob meant that they have the best main abilities and that you're more likely to get good secondary abilities with them. Other than the main ability though you can make any other gear just as good, it will just take time.

Alright just gonna do ranked and turfwars doing splatfests and around then for farming ability chunks and the shells. No point really when just reg before got the gear the way you want, I anyway.

Salmon runs is where it's at.

Yeah just pick gear you like looks wise with a main abilty usefull to you and put on extra abilities (and increase slots if not 4 yet) that fit your playstyle/weapons.

I'm now seeing more posts related to whatever the fuck "G&K" is than furry posts.

Who or what is G&K? Sometimes its also just GK too.

Squidforce is six times as likely to roll Ink Resistance Up, the best ability in the game, so if you have 3* Squidforce gears, you can farm Ink Resistance Up ability chunks much faster than for other gear, and accordingly get the abilities you want on your fresh set faster.

Tbh I would think the best way to spend chunks is 30 at a time. By that I mean roll or scrub your gear till you have two subs you actually want then save till you can plop in the third. May take longer than you would like but it's better than trying to roll for 3 all the time.

Report G&K posts as spam, they're spamming this name everywhere to get known. I did not know them before Splatoon 2, and I'm French.

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation.

How do cracks work? Does it depend on consecutive losses?

Nope it's the number of losses, not if they're consecutive. Whether you win lose, win lose, or lose twice in a row it has the same effect. So if it takes two losses to cause a crack, whether you get those two losses in a row, or in general it will still cause a crack.

The only thing losing consecutively for a long time will do is cause you to lose rank much quicker if you've not reached the "ok" line for example.

One thing I have noticed is that sometimes it takes two losses to cause a crack, and other times I get a crack for each loss. Still not figured out why that happens.

FUCK all these AFK ADD pieces of shit.
There is no excuse for not being able to concentrate for 3 minutes. Either disconnect early or even better just stop playing online altogether.

And I know this guy was around because at the 1 minute marker he walked off the spawn and stood there again.

Thanks. Will do. Also loads of people just posting their Twitter name which is just kinda stupid.

Rainmaker. Make it just before the touchdown point and die. Check map, two teammates are on the other side of the map painting the floor or shooting at someone.

Rainmaker is the most infuriating mode. I'll clear the path between a teammate carrying the rainmaker and the goal over and over and over and they just refuse to follow no matter how much I yell "this way". Seeing the entire enemy team dead for 5 seconds and the rainmaker guy just slowly walks around the middle of the map...

Rainmaker needs an explanation of the game mode before you're able to play it. Have seen too often the recipient of the rainmaker try to go back to the base instead of attacking the tent thing.

Considering making a second gear set with:

Respawn Punisher (3 Special Charge subs)
Quick Respawn (3 Swim Speed subs)
Special Saver (3 Run Speed or Ink Resistance subs?)
Tri Slosher

Because I'm curious and I also just want to watch the world burn. They probably made it so that you can't stack with Respawn Punisher though but guess I'll find out.

Don't use Tri Slosher

I need it's bullshit to secure kills and utilise the Respawn Punisher correctly. And Ink Armour to be even more bullshit.
I'll still lose because of teammates though because some of these guys are some kinda fuck-up wizards.

I wonder when the new 2 stages and a new band of music are ready.

Game needs more stages and music:P

They have a whole first games worth of music to add too. Kraken Up particularly.

Ability chunks are incredibly hard to collect, right? To the point of being a useless game mechanic?

Like, you have to scrub gear for 20,000 coins. And that gets you three random ability chunks. And you need 20 of a single kind to use to effect.

So it's like a million coins and 100 hours to eventually get there?

I'm not getting it.

That's my understanding, it looks pointless. Am I looking at this wrong or is there an easier way to get abilities chunks?

Brands have a bias towards certain abilities, Crusty Sean's drinks can help up the chances of particular abilities even further. (and it also raises XP gain on gear by an extra 50%)

Splatfest is a great time to farm chunks because scrubbing the Splatfest tee is only 2000.
Best to scrub that after you get 2 on it to be the most efficient.

Splatfest also rewards you with Super Sea Snails which you can use to reroll the slots in a maxed out piece of gear. Anything that gets replaced becomes an ability chunk. Brand bias is still in place for these rerolls too so you can increase the likelihood of getting specific chunks that way.

Best way of using chunks if you want 3 of the same sub is to put 2 on one gear and the 3rd on another. Each slot you add increases the chunk cost by 10. That avoids the 30 chunk price that a third duplicate ability costs if on the same gear.

In Splatoon 1 it was entirely RNG so this may seem grindy but is actually FAR better than that one without just making it super easy.

I'm sorry, I'm not following... when you scrub abilities you get those back as chunks?
You get a chunk basically any time a sub ability is removed or replaced from a piece of gear.

You can also get them through Salmon Run, depending on your bonuses for that day.

Got it! Okay, that makes sense. So you scrub off the abilities and get them back as chunks. Makes sense.

In Splatoon 1, they happened about once a month. There isn't a calendar, but they are usually announced a week in advance.

Gotcha. Would have been cool if it was like every weekend... but i guess it wouldnt be as "special" then.

I'm still super surprised at how much i'm loving this game. I never gave the fist one a chance on WiiU and my wife is the reason i gave 2 a chance on the Switch. Boy am i glad i decided to. I just wish that maps and Salmon Run werent on a schedule. I dont understand how they think that's a good idea.

It'd also ruin the in-game economy if everyone could get 20+ super sea snails every week. Item rarity would be meaningless, so would money for scrubbing abilities, it'd be a total mess.

I've actually been wondering what the value to Splatoon's economy actually is, considering you can't trade with anyone.

It's just always felt like an additional hurdle to getting the look you want with the stats you want.

This exactly. It's isolated and really doesnt seem to be overly powerful in any configuration. I dont mind it but it might have been cooler if clothing was visual only and stats were assignable to your individual character. Hell, imagine how cool it would be if you could have multiple characters or loadouts etc.

True enough I suppose. All money and snails really are are just gates between you and your optimal loadout(s). It's not like Rocket League or Dota were stuff has actually monetary value.

Still, I wouldn't want the game to be flooded with snails. Part of the progression is in working towards that perfect piece of gear and getting 20 snails a week would expedite that to such a degree as to make it basically meaningless.

I definitely choose gear by look first and foremost. Rocking a military beret, leather jacket, and punk boots. That's a badass looking inkling girl.
