Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

Maybe Nintendo should be in the title.........?

Not buying a Wii U cause Zelda is an NX game, so not really hyped for this.

Hmmm, I'd like to jump on the hype train but I think will there be anything revealed here we don't already know? I feel like the only thing left is to play the damn game.

I have stated in another thread but I really hope they cover two things:

Can I use a Pro Controller to play all game modes?

Is it possible for a friend and I to painlessly hook up and participate in matches online together?

My purchase is riding on the answer to both of these questions. If I am forced to use the un-ergonomic, heavier Gamepad then forget it. If my friend and I can't easily hook up then it defeats a lot of the appeal and I won't buy.
There still is nothing official, but I think there's 90% probability that the answer to both your questions is negative. The main online multi mode, turf war, relies heavily on touch screen and gyro controls. Players using the Pro controller would be severely disadvantaged so... Even having 2 local players in an online match would require nintendo unlocking dual gamepads support, which is unlikely.

Kinda feeling like this too. My main interest is in how significant and lengthy the SP content is.

This Direct sounds like it'll be the opposite of the pointless 10-minute Xenoblade Direct. At the very least, it's for a game that's coming out soon and has a release date.

Awful post. D-

Hopefully we learn about some new features. I'm honestly kind of worried this game isn't going to have a lot of content. I, of course, could be completely wrong. I'm hoping the single player mode is deep and robust.

I hope this time the direct will be longer than 8 minutes.
Even if I like Tree house gameplay, the short XCX "direct" left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Yes!

Amazing!

I hope I can watch it live :(

I've pre-ordered the game because its so cheap, wasn't that interested in the game at first, but at the price of £20 it got me interested.

Kinda strange to see a big new IP from Nintendo being this cheap before release.

Huh I just noticed this was a Thursday and not a Friday. And considering the time of the day, it seems like this might be hinting at a Splatoon demo.

1. No info on that yet. I would like to presume the odds are looking up after the recent local multi announcement but don't get your hopes up just yet.

I will be so bummed if I can't use the Pro Controller. The gamepad is uncomfortable in its own right, but then to needlessly put crucial information on it that forces me to take my eyes off the TV irritates me. Functionality that could very easily be put on the TV and accessed with the Pro Controller. Forced for the sake of justifying the poorly conceived Gamepad.

Mario Kart 8 at least smartened up and let us take the map off the pad and put it on the TV where it belongs. I love the concept, design and almost everything else Splatoon has going for it. I have my fingers crossed so hard that the Pro Controller is supported, or becomes supported at a later date.

It's a Thursday, it's 3pm - that's around the time the eshop update happens. And the last few weeks eshop content has seemed a little light.

Gotta be a demo!

I'd like to think that the main reason Nintendo have been touting the Wii U pad is because of the gyro capabilities, particularly having mentioned that using gyro as vertical aim is there to make it easier for those not accustomed to third person aiming. I'd like to think that there's going to be a setting to turn the gyro off though, if only because that's how Nintendo's usually done it.

As for the Pro Controller, the only game I can think of on the Wii U that has the Pro Controller as a mandatory multiplayer controller but isn't usable outside of it is Sonic Lost World. If it's not available though then... well, I guess there's hope for a patch since NSMBU did the same.

Granted the downside of playing without the pad is not being able to have the map and the ability to superjump to a location, which might weigh down your team. In that context I might understand why Nintendo chose to forego it's usage online since it means you're playing with a disadvantage, while for 1v1 stuff it's most likely just disabled. It's why I'm just hoping that you can switch to full analog on the pad rather than relying on gyro since I'd still like to do that ability while still having full control.

It's shocking that no party has a solid policy on the drastic Amiibo shortages that have brought the UK to a near-standstill. I say it should be a return to WWII-style ration books.

The touchscreen superjump feature can also be used to fast escape tricky situation I think, if I understood well what I saw from one of the last japanese stream (a guy was surrounded by the antagonic color/team and escaped "in extremis" by superjumping, it was cool). So tactically it could be even have more depth. But yeah, th real advantage of the gamepad is the gyro.

Aw yeah. I was getting worried they will not make a Direct for this game. If they are doing a Direct for Splatoon it's obvious there's still some unannounced stuff left for the game. Looking forward to see akward hosts wearing squid costumes or way better: Iwata wearing a squid hat!

By the way - since this is the more active Splatoon thread and quite a coincidence considering the Direct announcement - if you're anything like me and have been looking for Splatoon apparel, TheYetee are offering two Splatoon designs as today's tee. They also come in a limited edition tanktop variety.

They confirmed you can disable gyro. I think it is a setting you can change on the fly or something. It's been there since E3 2014.

Sooo good and all this "possible demo"-talk got me even more hyped!

Ohhhhh a demo would be extremely nice, helpful and even necessary if Nintendo really wants this game to sell well. A single stage with a few online features to test controls and boom!! Big success.

Oh boy, didn't see this thread... my brother is incredible excited for this game so maybe I need to make plans to see this with him.

My expectations:

1) More info about Story Mode
2) More maps
3) Ika Musume cameo
4) More modes for Multiplayer
