Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

This might end up a Japan only thing.

Granted the downside of playing without the pad is not being able to have the map and the ability to superjump to a location, which might weigh down your team. In that context I might understand why Nintendo chose to forego it's usage online since it means you're playing with a disadvantage, while for 1v1 stuff it's most likely just disabled. It's why I'm just hoping that you can switch to full analog on the pad rather than relying on gyro since I'd still like to do that ability while still having full control.
Yes, yet to me the super jump mechanic would be such a simple thing to put on the TV. Hold down a button for a map overlay, quickly flick through your teammates or spawn points, release and jump. Make it even better by having the default selected jump spot where the game thinks the heavy action is.

Whether it’s on screen or on the gamepad you’re still having to basically pause and make that selection. Difference is an on-screen solution wouldn’t require you to take your eyes off the TV and your hand off the buttons.

I don’t know about the disadvantage reasoning. In Smash Bros you can use just about any controller, and if you choose the horizontal Wii remote you are at a disadvantage. You can play online with anything you prefer, giving the player the choice if they wish to be disadvantaged. MK8 was along the same lines pre-patch, if you used the Pro Controller you forfeit the map.

Also would love a demo, this is the kinda game that needs one unlike The Wonderful 101 demo this demo will have kids wanting more

If history is to repeat itself, we'll have the Direct and review copies will be hand by May 8. So tons of footage should be coming out shortly.

A Splatoon demo would give the game some hype, I'm pretty sure.
Since I played the booth demo, I'm so hyped for this game. Your bodies are not ready for the extreme satisfying controls and gameplay

edit: Some more Amiibo compability wood be cool. Samus helmet, Fox sci fi eyepiece etc. as equipment.

Aww yisss, looking forward to this. Hope they offer some kind of LE Amiibo bundle. Won't be able to get it, but I'm still hoping for it.

"We are pleased to announce that if you buy Splatoon, you will also have your choice of these great Nintendo games!!"

That's what I would love to see from this Direct, though with Club Nintendo out of commission chances are pretty slim.

I knew it was coming as soon as I heard they had unannounced modes left to reveal.
Will certainly watch it.

I already have the LE splatoon pre-ordered anyway ,but still.

Is this the most advanced notice we've gotten on a direct, other than the E3 one, if that counts? I hope they continue this lol

yes, I think so. I remember there was one last year that had about 4 days of notice and that seemed like a lot. I think it was the first one that used that 6pm ET time slot. had some Bayonetta 2 stuff in there iirc.

I really love how female characters are portrayed in this game. I'd imagine if I was a little girl I'd be pretty pumped to play a cool female character such as this. Great work Nintendo!

I would have LOVED this when I was little. All I had was Samus: awesome, but just one character. Also, for some reason I thought Tails was a girl for a while. Looking back, I have no idea why.

At first I didn't have much interest in the game. After seeing gameplay though, I will probably be buying day 1. Granted, I suck at online shooter style games, so people will be unhappy if I am on their team. :)

I feel like we seen too much of this game . another direct isn't really necessary .
We've only seen a handful of things repeatedly being shown in action. Despite everything, people still have unanswered questions and they still have things not shown. It is very much necessary, especially if they want to get more people interested in the game. They had info dumps with MK8 and SSBWii U to sell people on those games, and they will do it here as well.

Maybe they'll announce something not so bleak about the online.

Either way, Day 1.

So weird that we are hoping for Nintendo not to announce more disappointment for Splatoon.

I dunno. I just haven't seen any of these announcements as things that will really impact the play and enjoyment of this particular game.
Not my enjoyment, at least.

So I guess I do hope others aren't disappointed anymore than they already are.
This game looks like it will be fun for a good long while.

Even if you suck at online shooters, your team just needs you to shoot the walls and ground with ink! Let them kill enemies and you ink away.

A demo for Splatoon would be a really smart move from Nintendo. Almost everyone who played Splatoon at expos liked the game tremendously. Even the media that got hands on with it had only great words about it. Bring that demo.

I am looking forward to seeing more as always.

I wonder if they'll reveal the threshhold of players required to unlock the SplatZone mode or if they'll leave it vague. For those that don't know, apparently, that mode won't unlock until a predefined number of players world wide hits a certain rank with the game. It's certainly an interesting idea for unlockinh stuff.

Also wonder if any of the post-launch content will be ready to be talked about, since they've been teasing that. Plus, any non-Splatoon amiibo functionality - basically, I wanna know if Mario hats are gonna be a thing.

Oh, would also be nice to hear about that 2D footage/arcade machine and what, if anything, it does.

I'm interested in what they have to announce about Splatoon, but I'm also hoping they end the direct with one last bit of Inkling-related news:

What I hope to see out of this:

  • More modes (pretty much a given, but like...a lot more modes), I want at least 3 in addition to Turf War and Splat Zones
  • Friend Lobbies Online
  • 2+ playing on one system vs (or with) others online/4 people as one team on one system if possible...at least 2 should be more than doable
  • If that is possible...then also 4 player local (though I assume it isn't)
  • LAN capability
  • Single Player Boss Battles
  • Hell I'll take multiplayer Boss Battles too as some sort of mode.
  • Since we already know voice chat isn't going to happen, I'd like to see a ping system

I really do think it will happen. Eventually. Not next week but sometime in the future.

The Splatoon Amiibo alone are just kind of perfect fits for that multipurpose.

I have a hunch that there's no concrete threshold in place and they're using the "post-game unlock" gimmick as a smokescreen to give them more time to work on content that won't be done by launch.
