Splinter Cell: Blacklist |OT| Warning: May Contain Trace Amounts Of Stealth

Really don't understand why they won't show off the pc version. It's supposed to have had a lot of work put into it, and people here who played it said it ran well and looked much better so what gives :/

My brother is such a -----

Hahaha. Sales dates are so broken right now for the last year or 2 its been a joke. Just go into his house late and night and take the thing:) Or go to the same place he did.

I am stoked to get this. Watched a reviewer playing and it looks ace.

Huh? Someone got the PC version? I'm still waiting for them to let me download it since I got it free with my graphics card. :/

Anyway, replayed Conviction and the ending leads into this. Hopefully (yes yes, I know I shouldn't care about the story) they go into
Meggido
more in Blacklist. All that work to "reboot" would be bad if they didn't listen to fans AND tie up that loose end.

I've played it on both PS3 and PC. Can't compare it with previous Splinter Cells, but I can tell you the PC version looks a generation apart from the PS3 code and was certainly running smoothly at ≥60fps on the machine I was using.

Assume he's a reviewer or something of that nature.

Yeah I just played through Conviction too, and I'm hoping they tie
Meggido
into what The Engineers are. So disappointing if they leave that end untied. Then what? They only bring in the Sarah storyline? Boring. Unrelated, but In my non existent fan fiction of a reboot, Sam dies and his daughter becomes a Splinter Cell to avenge him instead of just giving Sam a new voice actor

Megiddo was nothing more than a name drop, was it?

Grim missions seem really cool in videos. The entire game couldn't be like this why?

Also, it's kind of driving me nuts that Sam can't holster his weapon (OCD I guess).

In regards to the previous game, yeah. But like Quantum in the Bond reboot/Craig films it was supposed to be something more (that's why "Quantum" of Solace was supposed to be a sequel to Casino Royale and then turned into a "bridge" for a third movie) but was later dropped (hence Skyfall/M's departure from MI6/end of Judy's reign on the movie universe). I'm hoping they don't pull the same here.

Watching some people do LPs of it on the console version, PS3 actually, haven't run into much screen tearing yet if anything as noticeable as in previews or review copy footage.

They are pretty sizeable but SC has always been pretty heavy on the narrative, so there will be a need for more "linear" maps.

You could holster your weapon in conviction, are you sure you can't here?

What does it matter? Sam's gonna shoot/stab you too: It's straight up non-Stealth time, dawgs.

Are you sure you can't just hold the weapon change button (Down on controllers?) and holster it?

Does anyone know if the slow motion shooting is essential to gameplay? Or can the game be played without using it at all?

Very bleak hope that it was designed without in mind unlike Conviction where there were moments where it was well, actually required to progress. Well, Conviction didn't give you enough tools to allow you to try though, other than throwing flashbangs or using unlimited pistol ammo to shoot an opposite corner of a room as a poor man's whistle/distraction.

Hey Sober how does it feel to be like the only person who covered this game for months and it actually turned out pretty good? I think the PS3 version is like 87 on metacritic...
I was hoping the official forums were going to go YouTube-comments level of dumb but it rarely ever got there. Instead there were just long meandering posts (like really long) about nothing that argued very little and instead propped itself of "but remember LEGACY Splinter Cell?" followed by a chorus of everyone agreeing.

I couldn't care less about metacritic or anything, I just wanted to see some salty tears from "longtime fans of Splinter Cell".

Not saying I haven't been salty here and there, but I lost the belief that we'd be getting a great Splinter Cell game long ago. As should any one who has been here from the beginning. It was pretty clear we were starting a new path with current generation versions of Double Agent, and it was blatantly obvious with Conviction that the older ways weren't going to stay. If you wanted to see the true salt? Pre-Conviction was probably the peak of the salt pile.

Now I think most of us are just simply lackadaisical about it.

Yeah rose tinted glasses are throughout the Splinter Cell community. They want the game to be more of what think Splinter Cell and not what it actually was...

So, I was playing Conviction co-op for the first time with a friend, we've played for around 5 hours.

All I have to say is fuck the hacking mission

fuck the hacking mission

FUCK IT

Some reviewers, some youtube players who puts game walkthroughs. They got early copies from Ubisoft.

Thats the thing, there will always be some.

You may be giving the negative views more weight in your head than the good because they fall more in line with what you already expected to not like.

Honestly, give the game a try if you can get it on sale in a few months or simply rent it. That way you wont have much buyers remorse if you dont enjoy it.

Yeah but Blacklist has not been unanimously deemed worse then Conviction... Maybe a few "hardcore" Splinter Cell fans are upset, but saying that everyone thinks its bad is not true..

Can you still grab mercs from behind and speak to them through the headset? Half my strategy in old school spies vs mercs was psychological warfare.

Realistically there's no reason for him to put the weapon away during an OP. As a gamer yeah it sucks.

Here's the problem with Blacklist, it's that it is technically a return to form. Problem, no one seems to care, because even though at least Splinter Cell is mostly on message, most of the Tom Clancy ship has sailed off into the distance after getting hit with the "but it has to be cinematic!" stick this gen. Looks like Blacklist suffers from a bit of it too, but not as bad as transforming into an almost different subgenre entirely (e.g. R6 Raven Shield to Vegas).

Then we also have the "well it's not stealth"-ization of the stealth genre. Depending on where you sit, it is either "I'm okay with that" or "fuck this gen, back to CT-T2-BM", which always loves to be brought up when stealth games get AAA-budgeted this gen. I mean, okay be sceptical about it, but that's the way it goes until indies start doing proper 3D-world stealth where they can eschew the "well we'll just heavily encourage stealth instead, which honestly I find to be a fairly decent compromise (warning: I have never played Thief in my life yet, mark and execute me for death if you will; the most stealth I have ever played and enjoyed was when Splinter Cell itself debuted).

Blacklist also lands itself in a period where narration is a big thing. Like, "hey if it's AAA, has cinematics in it, isn't CoD/BF, shouldn't it try a little?", but apparently it ends up being Tom Clancy technobabble where everyone throws armchair geopolitics and real and fake acronyms at each other through most of the conversation. This is also in a period where they have to "justify their Sam Fisher" seeing as he was literally the only Clancy character that matters/mattered (seeing as no one ever gives a shit about any other TC franchise characters) that they seem to make him too less of what Ironside had envisioned, but he had already finished that arc in Conviction.

So what happens is you sorta have this hilarious congregation of things people are just completely apathetic about (in terms of where the industry is going) all in one thing, plus a "black mark" (aka Conviction) on the franchise marking it for dead on arrival, resulting in no one really caring but the hardcore fans. Problem is their perceptions are just as skewed.

Fun fact: I haven't pre-ordered this game yet. Doesn't help there is no PC pre-load versus SR4 and The Bureau which do.

I'm bored so to burn time, here are people from the official forums squatting on their own place on the gameplay style 'spectrum' (aka ghost/panther/assault). If you didn't understand that joke in the OP, here it is now because special snowflakes:

36335,unbenannt2R1E6N.png

Some choice quotes:

The "pure" ghost player:
The "pure" or "hardcore" Ghost is an exreme form of ghost, avoiding to interact with anything in the environment which is not his objective. No distractions, at least nothing that permanently changes the environment (OCP are forbidden by some, permitted by others) and no K.O.'s if not absolutely necessary.

The "normal" Ghost player

Will alter their environment in order to pass through and interacting with the enemy subtly -- this includes shooting out lights, whistling, KOing enemies, etc.
Those filthy normals!

The Phantom player

The Phantom is a Ghost-panther hybrid with high focus on Ghost.
This playstyle leans towards Ghosts in terms of mentality. Phantoms are slow and precise rather than quick efficient and thus they are more like the Ghost in that respect. In most ways, the Phantom is closer to the Poltergeist than the Pure Ghost because they will interact with the environment, even if not needed, if they decide it's best. This could mean shooting out an occasional light, throwing a can, or KOing someone. However, they will also occasionally kill enemies if they feel the enemy in question deserves it. Like a Ghost, any Assault tactics are forbidden unlike the Panther who may occasionally supplement their playstyle with Assault tactics if the sh*t really hits the fan.
I have to point out here nowhere is "Poltergeist" ever defined (as a playstyle)

The Barghest (player)

The Barghest is a Ghost-Panther-Assault hybrid with a focus on Ghost who uses assault in defensive situations. He is mostly shifting between ghost and panther playstyle. He will however - should his stealth fail - use the Assault or Panther playstyle, depending on situation, to get himself out of the situation or to gain a tactical advantage. He may also decide that Assault is the best course of action and utilize that instead of stealth... but generally...Barghests will prefer stealth.
Oh, so maybe the game should've been named Splinter Cell: Barghest, because you just described how the devs wanted you to play.

Phantom(Panther/Ghost hybrid focused more on Ghost)-Hawk(Sniper focused on long ranged weaponry when it is a plausable option)

I consider myself a Phantom-Hawk player because in single player my secondary gun will always be a sniper-rifle or assaut-rifle equiped wit a scope and a suppressor, for what I consider to be a great tactic. I know some believe a gun with upgrades such as these are tools of the Panther, but I do not plan on useing the suppresor unless I see no other alternative. The true reason for my choice of weapon is for medium-to-long range recon and stratedgizing. In co-op/SvM this tactic turns to ranged suport for my team mate(s) in the form of me giving them my observations from the best vantage point I can find. I will watch for enemy movement/patrol-patterns, warning's of possible threats to them(including risk of detection), and even any fire-suport needed(from a ranged head shot to suppresive/cover fire if he requests for it).
This is somebody's signature.

This makes me glad places like GAF don't allow signatures.

If you want to read more, come back with a stronger drink first: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/779714-Playstyle-defintion-criteria?

I can't believe that spectrum is a thing. It's not even something that works in a format like that, those marks mean absolutely nothing.

Don't they know that ghosts knock shit off the walls and alter the environment all the time? Sheesh. Watch Ghost Adventures sometime, would ya'?

Uh, wow. That chart doesn't even work as a flowchart.

Anyway, "Normal Ghost" or "Phantom" depending on what I feel like if going by those standards. Try my best to not get noticed and let people be whatever. Unless it's Conviction this past playthrough, in which case I rush them all and mash execute after Five-seveN'ing them for the marks.

(which was hilarious because the bullet damage on Normal in Conviction PC can be pretty deadly but if you play your cards right you may get some damage, and then melee someone in the face after meleeing the dude near them the first time. Detected->kill->last known position->move to a new position, mark and execute.)

I don't understand what that chart means. What's the difference between Hellhound and Panther?

Why do all of those names sound like something a 12 year old on a sugar high would consider "cool"?

Edit: Christ on a stick some of those signatures are literally paragraphs long. What the hell
