[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

Yeah, that and the fact that Rey can pick it up and duel Ren, possibly to a standstill, is kind of lame.

Maybe the context will explain more of why she can do this other than "Jedi blood", but it kind of seems like a hand wave to say "she has the force" and that means she can automatically dual with a lightsaber.

Well, that's assuming Ren beats Finn unscathed in the first place. Or that Rey isn't joined by reinforcements or has outside help.

Apparently Finn, while not being the character directly related to the Skywalker Saga, the character that connects best with the audience, and is DEFINITELY more of the audience surrogate than Rey.

He loses a lightsaber fight, sure. But so did Luke.

I'll put money on him losing a hand, too.

Besides which, we'll have seen Rey whup a LOT of ass with that staff of hers previously in the movie.

Basically, we'll have two leads, both of whom are very proficient in hand to hand combat WITHOUT seriously tapping into the Force, one of whom might be Force sensitive, one of whom definitely is. Both of them using the saber to go after Kylo Ren is going to be set up enough (they both get their own hand-to-hand fight scenes before Kylo) that it seems risky as shit taking him on, but not completely foolish.

Not any more than Luke taking on Vader without having really fought ANYONE before that.

I am going to love watching the bitter tears of the non-spoiled who expect Luke to be the badass hero to save the day.

basically. he's become the Yoda for the crew it seems. which is fine, figured that'd be the direction he was headed in anyways.

I hope Poe has a bigger role than it seems. Oscar Isaac is my favorite actor of the new cast, and he flies a FUCKING BLACK X-WING.

that and there is an explanation for how he survives apparently.

Have no qualms about being spoiled. That's not so bad actually. Can foresee a lot of outrage or whatever about Han though once the movie comes out. But Ford probably wanted it this way.

Well sure. What I don't get is why someone who was trained to shoot people is using a melee weapon against stormtroopers. Like, you're proficient in other weapons, why use one that needs force sensitivity to be effective in the first place?

Finn is a trained stormtrooper, fighting other stormtroopers with a lightsaber without being force sensitive would be ridiculously pointless. Why Maz gives the thing to him in the first place is irrelevant.

He's fighting the Stormtrooper because the Stormtrooper is wielding an electro-staff-riot-baton thing. It's so that Finn gets confident with using a lightsaber and then realizes he's in over his head when he fights Kylo (which we see in his facial reactions in the trailer when Kylo is approaching him).

I don't have a problem with Finn being Force sensitive. I'm just saying that there's nothing yet to indicate that he is. You don't have to be Force sensitive to use a lightsaber. Han used one TWICE in canon (in ESB to cut open the tauntaun and actually using one to fight against Stormtroopers on Nar Shaddaa in the Marvel comic).

He's using a melee weapon against a stormtrooper with a melee weapon.

So these stormtroopers are apparently pretty decently trained to fight with melee weapons, not just blasters.

Is the whole "You need to be a Jedi to use a lightsaber without hurting yourself" ever stated in canon? I thought that was always from the old EU books and comics.

Who gets shot in the chest in one of the trailers.

He gets shot iirc.

And Han dying.

You're not afraid of that at all, eh? You will be.

You will be.

The point is that there was no need to bring out the lightsaber in the first place.

Not sure I agree with that point at all, but maybe the way the fight plays out in the movie will make me think differently.

Whatever happened to this dude in some gothic castle? I thought it looked really cool.

Appears to be concept art of the interrogation. At the time people thought it was from the climax of the film.

No, it's not. You need the Force to balance the kyber crystal inside the lightsaber properly when constructing it, and having the Force will greatly help in using a lightsaber because you can block blaster bolts, anticipate other people's actions or swings, make sure you don't stab yourself, etc. But you don't actually need the Force to swing the thing around.

Also the book Before the Awakening confirms that First Order Stormtroopers (including Finn) have training in melee weaponry, such as that one riot baton guy in the commercials, which is why Finn knows how to do some swordfighting at least.

Well that's hugely dissapointing.

I thought the Robot Phantom of the Opera look was way more unique and interesting looking. Now we just have Darth Vader 2.0.

...Wouldn't a robotic look have MORE similarities with Vader?

Ren doesn't share a ton of aesthetic similarities with Vader aside from the back of his helmet, which is mostly covered by a hood.

We figured out in the other spoiler thread that Luke is pregnant with Snoke by midichlorians. So yes, there are more midichlorians.

The movie ends with Luke, the mother, walking into a room full of geriatric old people. He looks into a crib at baby Snoke and screams, "HIS EYES! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HIS EYES!"

The old farts and bags start exclaiming, "THE FORCE IS DEAD! THE DARK SIDE LIVES! HAIL SNOKE! HAIL THE DARK SIDE!"

Um no? He looks like some romanticized fantasy villain in the concept art, what he is in the movie is highly remenicient of Vader considering he even has the voice modulator to make him sound similar.

If the allusions to carrying on the Vader legacy are accurate, then the Vader 2.0 look is probably intentional. Like an obsessive fan.

I agree with you a bit though, I liked the eerie look of that concept piece.

That "You aren't my father" line
when Han gets sliced
is pretty goood.
Please don't tell me this is real...

Good god, is anything in this movie original? Or is it all just call backs? Getting so bummed reading this stuff.

Rumors...
Well i'm used to reading bullshit but someone on 4chan is claiming to be a voice actor in the polish version of the film.

am a voice actor working on a Polish dub of TFA. We finished just yesterday.

Didn't see the movie, just heard the audio track. However, I think I know a lot about the plot.

Found a loophole in my NDA, and I think I can share the details of the story with you as long as I avoid using the trademarked names, so I can claim I "guessed" it all or that it was irrelevant to TFA.

So if you have any questions, I'll answer them the best I can. Jestem gotowy na wszystko miśki.

To start, I believe there are only three planets in the movie. the snow one, the jungle one and the desert one. The snow one and the jungle one are a home to two pieces of an ancient bad guys weapon. This is in the crawl and how the intrigue begins, both the good guys and bad guys control one of the planets and are trying to capture the other planet, so the weapon will be complete and usable. Snake-man is a guardian of the one of the temples, Old-bearded-man is a guardian of the second of the temples.

if you found a loophole and think you are safe post some PROOFS at least that you are voice actor

I was thinking about that, but I don't want to tell you exactly who I am. If I recorded my voice my identity would be compromised. While I'm pretty sure nothing is going to go wrong, I still need to be cautious for obvious reasons, not wanting to lose my job being one of them.

It was still better than most of the work I have done, the director wanted us to record our lines while interacting with each other instead of just recording the lines separately.

Bad crusader doesn't kill an old smuggler. They don't even meet, like, ever.

Also, nobody is related to anybody, except for a hot shot pilot who was adopted by the former princess.

The "orange CGI person" is from a short species known from the earlier desert planet that trades junk and robots. When she's first introduced, she has the hood on and you can only see her shining "eyes", but after she removes the hood it's revealed its not the shining eyes, but binoculars.

It's possible that there are four planets. Something might have escaped my attention. If I'm remembering things correctly, though, one of them wasn't mentioned by name at all then.

So.... is Maz a Jawa?

Here's how movie ends:
The weapon fails, because the Bearded-man severes the connection between the two temples after having a fight with Snake-man who escapes (I think). The bad guys planet then burns and melts. Bad crusader is angry and kills the redhead general. After the planet melts, under the ice there's another death star. Now that it's "naked", the hot-shot pilot finds a way to destroy it but dies.

Celebration, everybody is happy, except for the former princes and the old smuggler, because their adopted son died.

Black dude gets a new hand and the new girl becomes a protege of bearded-man... but wait, the good guys planet then starts shaking and self-destructs, they evacuate and try to escape. It's most probably a cliff hanger, and if anything happens after that there's no dialog.

Me too lol

I mean I'll still watch it, but it's telling that my favourite SW properties don't have the skywalkers in it.

That's funny though because to me, Kylo has always looked more "fantasy villain" to me than any of the previous villains since I first saw him. His design really nails the "evil space wizard" aesthetic to me. Different strokes.
