I don't know if anyone enjoy's anything ironically. If you enjoy something, you enjoy something.

That's true, but I think people try to hide that with the old "so bad it's good" thing. Like with Nyaruko, you had plenty of people earlier in the thread try to justify their enjoyment of it that way.

So I guess some people pretend they only like some stuff ironically because they fear how others will view them? or something.

But didn't we already know this?

Cream Lemon: Pop Chaser (1985) - hentai OVA

Staff involved:

Hiroyuki Kitakubo - Director of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Roujin Z, Blood: The Last Vampire

Hideaki Anno - Director of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gunbuster, Nadia etc

Mahiro Maeda - Director of Gankutsuou

Katsuhiko Nishijima - Director of Project A-Ko, Agent Aika, Najica Blitz Tactics

Takeshi Mori - Director of Gunsmith Cats, Otaku no Video, The Skull Man

Toshiyuki Inoue - This fucking dude

Takeshi Honda - Animator extraordinaire.
I would love to see Studio Lilith (Kuro Ai, Taimanin Asagi) handle a standard action show.

This bears repeating to those who have derided watching things like Arjuna/Yami/Glass Fleet/etc. as some sort of hipsterish attention-whoring. "So bad it's good" is a legitimate form of good and people have actual fun watching these series. There's no irony involved whatsoever.

True. I don't watch anything to be hipster, I watch it to be entertained. Yami is GENUINELY FUN. Its crazy nonsensical batshit insanity and sometimes I watch shows specifically for that reason. I rated it a 10 on my MAL specifically because it delivered upon my expectations of it. In spades.

I don't see Lemon anywhere in that quoted post.

Hmmm. You have a point here. As much as I love Kanna, Lemon is troll extraordinaire and awesome for it. That's why I love Hansode Shiranui too.

I think enjoying something "ironically" makes sense if your source of enjoyment was unintended by the creators. Like people who watch super serious shows/movies to laugh at the hammy acting and poor writing.

It gets misused a lot, though. Mostly, as Envelope said, to justify liking shows that you feel you shouldn't.

They could always just peddle merchandise and reap the benefits of an extensive catalogue after Miyazaki and Takahata are gone. Become a company dedicated to the memory of good projects, rather than the production of them.

So like Walt Disney Animation Studios?

I never said it was a bad thing to care. All I'm saying is people shouldn't get worked out of shape when someone chooses to ignore an arguably well-executed work because they can't get past the subject matter.

But I see no reason to continue this conversation if it's just going to descend into insults.

That's clearly not "all" you were saying, because the last post I responded to had nothing at all to do with "people shouldn't get worked out of shape when someone chooses to ignore an arguably well-executed work because they can't get past the subject matter", but rather you were directly attacking the attitude that people are more willing to give something a chance if it is by someone they trust.

But if you feel that you can no longer contribute to this debate because all your viable options of retort have been exhausted, then sure by all means.

Yep. My vocabulary isn't very extensive and I usually end up utilizing words from Spanish that are grammatically similar, thing that could lead to a mistake (false friends), but for sure that I'm learning here things by association, like that word Mad Pierrot posted.

Guys, use varied words and expressions so I can learn even more!

I'll try to remember to embiggen my diction for you.
