Man the tropical scenery was a nice change of pace this episode. Very very beautiful scenes and vistas. Anyhow, for a flasback episode I really enjoyed this besides the fact that Kiritsugu is my favorite character in F/Z. The first half was pretty relaxing and I think it did it nice job introducing his childhood life. We got a good feel for his life and the people around him (Shirley, his father, the church, etc.) and we see him in a totally different light than how he is in the rest of the show.
Then things begin to get dark.
Of course the events that follow are all due to his father's research. One thing I'm not sure how to feel about is Kiritsugu's justification for killing his father. Even Natalia pointed that out which made it all the more interesting to me. Did he even have a strong relationship with his father? Or does his viewpoint of justice and saving people really do overpower how he feels about everything else, even if family is involved? Just man... that resolve to kill your father just like that. Crazy.
In any case, the seeds have been sown that begin Kiritsugu's path of a Mage Killer. Even though I'm not normally a fan of flashback episodes that explain a character's past I'm really interested to see Kiritsugu's life as the infamous mage killer and I'm looking forward to see his relationship with Natalia since she apparently becomes his mentor (as hinted at in an earlier episode too).
All in all, really great episode and cannot wait for next week.

It wasn't about revenge for Kiritsugu. It was definitely about justice. This episode is about the foundation of Kiritsugu's logic that if he were to take action when it was needed, regardless of how cold-blooded or unfair it is, he can save lives. He hesitated with Shirley, even though he had the chance. He will never hesitate again. The means justify the ends.

He's a kid and he's angry at his father was doing illegal things which got other people hurt, and he got even angrier when he confronted him about it and his father seemed to not think it was a big deal. He was definitely really upset about it, but I don't think his actual determination to do what he did stemmed from that.
Kiritsugu is a rational and logical person who seems to rarely give in to raw emotion. He has those emotions, and I'm sure they define who he is inside, but he seems to try his best to disconnect emotions from his actual actions.
I think we also see a shade of that when Kiritsugu explained logically why he felt he had to do it himself. Did he want to do it himself? Probably, but that would be his emotional side. He justifies it using his rational side, and that was the mindset he approached it. Whether he is lying to himself is another debate.
So how long is she gonna stay with her high school buddies? I want her to start wearing that hat you see in the OP
They seem to pay attention to some details like the hair thing which surprised me. I was wondering how they were controlling their movements in space. Do their suits have things that blow air and push them around?

Yes, I'm pretty sure their suits have little thrusters on them. As for actual Piratin', you'll start getting all the good stuff after episode five, when the first arc finishes.
Hey, the poor man didn't kill her directly. She just took the bottle from the laboratory without him knowing it, and that is why he asked Kiritsugu if he was the one who walked into the laboratory... he didn't give a shit after that, though.
Holy shit. What a mind blowing episode, it really had something for everyone. They certainly meandered around a bit earlier on, but this has developed into a surprisingly great series.
Really, I should never had had my doubts. Of course, others have been gunning for this series all along.

Yep, the remembrance of Shirley's asking what type of man did he wanted to be as a grown-up when he shoot his father was pretty telling of that... he wanted to be a man of justice, of course!

And how! Upotte is really at it's best when you think it's going to edge out over some kind of line but then what actually happens it goes flying over it instead.
You know, the worst thing about this weeks episode of Upotte is that I was already familiar with all the gun facts from this weeks episode. I learned about water-skiming from Goglo 13 and fanning from MGS3. Japan has taught me a lot.
Still good, but I'm starting to have a problem with the Generation of Miracles stuff at the beginning of every episode, as well as a mini recap of the previous episode.
I appreciated a lot the happy faces Riko made, as well as the opposite emotions showed by the 2 coach at the end of the game:
I've been waiting for this episode~ I'm impressed though, they went through with SAKO and her
gun oil covered fingers
. So exciting, so awesome. I can't wait for next week for the conclusion of the arc~ also,
AUG is better with short hair
.
Oh, and for those of you still wondering why 16 is such a dick to Elle, this episode spells it out pretty clearly. If you don't get it now, I don't know what to do for you...
Oh man, this episode. I don't wanna wait for next week.
Most other images are spoilers, but trust me, this episode is the REAL reason to keep watching. >
Oh, I'm watching other shows, I'm just choosing to post about Upotte!! because it's awesome and the best part of my week.
