Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos 8

kvdgT.jpg

I can finally see the ending
Good episode, I just wish this was an
eroge game instead of a dating sim.
Mahiro still pisses me off, dude has no interest in girls or boys, poor Nyarko :(

Anyone has that site that lists all the references? I wanna see what I missed in this episode.

Don't make me use my Homing Attack.
Or, if we're playing Sonic Adventure: don't make me use Gamma![/url]

Maybe we could have Chao Moe. That would work really well, considering how many different types of Chao can be bred.
Hoo boy, you don't have to tell me.

Chao breeding and I have a...history.

How bad is the censorship? I might just wait for the BDs.

Be sure to rate it 10/10 on MAL!

[AKB0048] - 5

This episode confused me at first because on the surface it actually appears to be a standard 'filler' episode - the premise is 'the girls of AKB0048 have a day off to do whatever they want'. This notion of a 'filler' episode is further reinforced by the poor quality art, animation and direction which give the impression that this whole episode was formed out to some other company.

This is just one of many 'off-model' shots that you can find in the episode. I know what you're thinking, these character designs are pretty bad when they're on model but that's not the point. The animation is pretty janky at times too, and they use a number of long shots to avoid having to do stuff like mouth flaps. The background art and is actually the worst offender here, but I am saving that for last.

Anyhow, even though I assumed that all the girls in this episode would engage in fairly mindless activities on their day off, but actually all the characters paired off and went on their own adventures which revealed important aspects about their characters and the AKB0048 universe at large. Okay.

This is a good idea but unfortunately the whole thing is done rather poorly and rather than feeling like a unified ensemble cast it feels more like they only have enough time in the episode to give each character a minutes worth of screentime, leaving every single 'mini-story' underdeveloped. There's not enough time to flesh anything out or get interested in what's going on. There isn't any kind of main plot point linking all these scenarios together either which makes the whole thing feel poorly thought out and the episode has zero sense of pacing or tempo because none of the mini-stories have their own arc.

Still, it's worth talking about a few of these 'adventures' because they're all pretty stupid. One of the girls, who name I can't remember 'and will never know' gets chastised for being too sexy, so she has to undergo training to become less sexy.

Conversely, two other girls need to work on being sexy, so they undertake 'operation pherenome':

It's a great success. Somehow. All I saw them do was balance books on their head, but I guess somehow that makes them sexier.

In another story, we lean that another one of the idols comes from a family that specialises in always being part of AKB0048. As in, every generation of their family. It's incredibly creepy, but I think the director considers it 'cute':

There's also some creepy fanservice shit. The otaku will be pleased.

Finally, here's some of that terrible background art I mentioned earlier:

What the hell is wrong with the perspective? Are they trying to ape German Expressionism?

WTF.

At the very least, this episode was a change of pace. Instead of one 20sometihng minute long stupid story, we get like a bunch of much shorter stories all ranging from stupid to decent. It wasn't bad and it was nice to see pretty much omakes being animated. And, they were doing so well not having an insert song until pretty much the last two minutes before the ED. I'm still waiting for the episode where the whole thing is an insert song at this point.

It's an incredible mix of :cajun and :firehawk.

Sounds delicious.

By the way, I finally got my Curio cabinet , so I can move my figurines out of those awful boxes and give them a nice dust-free home. I also plan to move some shit around in my room and might possibly put up some shelving. It will look like a proper Otakuroom shortly!

This is starting to drag. Are they really going to spend 5 episodes on the same puzzle? When I found out there would be rivals in this, I figured every "battle" would have a new puzzle that caters to everyone's different skill set.

jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I always feel like I have the same thing to say about this show. Top-notch animation and backgrounds, really great thought process visualizations, characters range from okay to annoying, mysteries are too simple, Eru's eyes, etc etc.

Mostly, what this episode did was to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of multi-part mysteries in the show. The current mystery is at least decently mysterious, however there was just so much unnecessary verbal padding that I still had difficulty paying attention. I love the visualizations and everything, but the entire train of dialogue running throughout the episode was one long process of elimination that would have taken minutes at best if thought instead of spoken. The seventeenth time that I heard "but there was no violence" I had to wonder if surely there wasn't a better way for everything to be deduced aloud.

Yeah, pretty much.

So after making all of those deductions in the previous episode,
they just up and find someone who knew everything from the start
? That's kind of disappointing. The revelations in and of themselves were fairly interesting, but the events of this episode rendered the events of the previous episode almost completely unnecessary. If this was the best mystery that the show was able to come up with, I shudder to think how banal the rest of the show is going to be.

I still don't understand why KyoAni chose Hyouka as the title for the show. They'll probably never mention that name in the series ever again, and "Koten-bu" would have been so much better.

It was the title for the novel, so . . . I know the series is called the latter, but the former sounds better.

Because the show is something that looks and tastes great at first but quickly melts down into a horrible mess.

I still think that Hyouka is okay, hahah.

Wholesome family fun! Or I can't imagine wearing that and skiing is a good idea.
Exactly as stupid or such as the other episodes and what's with the insert song appearing at the very end of the show.

Well I need to watch the next Space Bros. might as well do that tonight. But I want to watch the bluray of There Will Be Blood that I got so it wont be an all anime night.

Milkshakes and ice cream on the same night? Hope you're not lactose intolerant.

Er, because that's the name of the novel?
