No I haven't seen Clannad yet.
Lol. Ah ha. It makes sense now. What I was referring to earlier in regards to character development and the differences between Clannad and Kanon. Clannad literally gives you a full season of emotional arcs all geared specifically towards the events of The After Story. You learn so much about what makes the characters tick and yout can feel for them. Add that all toget her with how the story wraps everything up, with even the smallest things making a difference and damn, you have an emotional explosion from pain and sorrow to joy and happiness all at once.
With Kanon, they give brief introduction s and quickly build the story around them. Even with the MC we know very little. It's been a good story so far, but the emotional depth isn't as strong as Clannad.
Now, your next step is to watch Clannad in it's entirety. If that Mikoto arc got to you, you better have a box of tissues on standby because going from crying tears of joy to tears of sorrow and back again is the norm for this show.

Wow, "just who/what are you Yuuichi" damn, what just happened? Insane to be questioned by her of all people. Also, the reference to a friend she had long ago that went away, that's Yuuichi, right, right... I bet it's her mom that let's the cat put of the bag..
