My Love Story 6:
I hadn't realize that this was actually a tragedy. But now I see that the real story here is a horror story about what happens when you take so long worrying about confessing your feelings that someone new comes along and sweeps them away before you even get your chance. Ai was robbed.

Once we get past the horror story, we return to Takeo's relationship with Yamato, and they get over a hump here.
We also learn that she faked a good 50% of the first episode so that she could get into a relationship with him.
So they're getting closer, and things remain sweet with them, but we viewers will always wonder what could have been if Takeo had just held out a little longer and Ai had been given the time to confess her feelings properly. What a tragedy.

Well, Shirobako was boring, so I suppose it never learned that particular fact since it probably came up after a I dropped it.

Does f/sn REALLY look that good? The fights look good (from what I watched and some webm) but everything else is kinda shoddy tbh from how hard people fellate ufotable

And really no amount of time, budget, talent etc can fix bad source material.

I feel the term "budget" is abused greatly, especially in terms of anime and while money can really help, the important things that drive a show's visual quality is the talent of the people behind it and the scheduling given to them.

I'm talking out my ass now but the talent surely comes with a price too ? Iso or Norio Matsumoto won't take the same wages as the lowly in betweener in Pierrot. Scheduling also strikes me as something that is inseparable from budget but I've even less clue about that so I will shut up now.

I'm not sure what else you'd judge it on since people standing around is just people standing around and there's only so many ways to make that look all that good.

I wish they had noses, but that's just the art style, I think.

This one has been sitting on my Crunchy queue for awhile as well. I had to take a break at ep.12. It's not that it was bad, it was just plain.... I'll finish it soon before those that love it here hate me making it lonely, lol.

There are a lot of ways to make people standing around look good, with regards to how you draw the people, the composition of the scene, the color palette, etc. Fate/Stay Night, from what little I saw of it, looked fairly pedestrian a lot of the time.

The show also does a poor job of making the character art and the background art feel cohesive. It feels like two different shows cobbled together.

SO a friend recommended me Dan Machi.

I thought it was moe blob show, but it was really goofy, I decided I'd like to watch more shows like it, any recommendations?

See this is why generalising things before you watch them is a terrible idea! You'll miss out on a show that you may actually enjoy.

Try out Ixion Saga DT. That's pretty similar to Danmachi.

Plenty of studios manage to make standing around and talking interesting. We just got 2 and a half JoJo episodes that were exciting and they were sitting in chairs the entire time. Kaiji is probably my favorite example.

Still hoping Shirobako finally disabuses people of this notion.

Shirobako barely covered anything related to budgeting, so I'm unsure how it completely dispels that notion. Especially when one of the few scenes that did mention money was an animator talking about not doing high quality work given how poorly they're paid.

How much of that is animation and how much of that is source material though? F/SN is a an awful lot of of "tell, don't show" since it tries to world-build by having Rin sit in Shiro's kitchen and talk about shit that happened in the past.

I thought being a weeabo was when you thought everything from Japan was superior just because it was from Japan

I think it's more the obnoxious fan who can't read the atmosphere, who talks about it despite it being clear that no one near them is interested. The kind of person who would get pissed off if a fellow fan used the wrong honorific or pronounced a name incorrectly.

FSN: UBW 03 is a mightily impressive piece of a sustained animation and the only thing I can think of that matches or maybe even surpasses Naruto 133, Shippuden 167 and 322 in terms of battle porn. I much prefer those resources to be put into action over character acting. Even with those priorities, the dialogue in UBW still looks better than 90 % of anime.

So Yamada and the Seven Witches is only 12 episodes?

They're going to have to bum-rush the rest of the material. They've revealed 2 witches by Episode 5 and the last arc is fairly lengthy. I'd assume it was a split-cour or something except all of the important characters are in the intro already.

Those of you who backed the Bubblegum Crisis BD kickstarter should have gotten a new e-mail by now. AnimEigo's next kickstarter project will be a BD release of Otaku no Video! I'm excited about this one.

I mean, compared to what? Pretty much every anime has a shitload of off-model moments, in my experience.

Eh, there are plenty shows that uphold a certain animation/visual quality throughout. of the 'relatively recent' shows I watched there's for instance Kazoku Uchouten and Nagi no Asukara.

In general, KyoAni, Madhouse and P.A. works are good examples of studios that tend to deliver high quality visuals in their shows without those kind of major flaws I've seen plenty of in F/N UBW.

edit:
Since Shirobako got name dropped, even that impresses me visually more than F/N UBW. It's simply good looking, albeit not amazing, without every dipping into shit territory.

If only Iso was still working :p. Anyways, you'd still be paying key animators by each animation cut, even if they aren't Iso or Matsumoto. As far as I know, wages for a notable animator over a "normal" animator wouldn't have a huge disparity if any unless they were working as an animation director instead. In betweeners aren't going to just do key animation for lower pay, that wouldn't make any sense. Also note these animators aren't normally on a salary, so purely time based wages isn't really a thing. Of course if you are a fast key animator who can deliver a lot cuts like say Hironori Tanaka, you'd theoretically earn more.

I would add Bones to that list and in fact I feel they are better than Madhouse in terms of visuals and sakuga.

Having seen many Madhouse and KyoAni shows, not to mention half a dozen episodes of Shirobako, I respectfully disagree.

I was going to watch more than one episode but I stopped. I liked the manga, but I don't feel like watching a possibly rushed adaptation of it. If its only one cour like I'm fearing, I'll be disappointed.

So Minato and bad guy aren't quite the same guy? Or two separate consciousness? Something funky is going on. Pretty tense episode actually. That is one big ship.

So, onto a different list now GAF, what are some good, funny series out there? I'm completely fine with crude, sophomoric or childish humor. Saekano and Golden Boy were both funny shows to me Tsuritama wasn't that funny.

Crunchyroll preferred, but Hulu and Funimation work too.

The next Anime Kickstarter by Animeigo is going to be Otaku no Video (Bluray). It's not live yet. Backers of Bubblegum Crisis got a preview and it only costs $25 for the disc

Watch Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront), Barakamon, and D-Frag if you want some good comedy and fun.

I agree with this. Shirobako looks consistently very good, without ever really having any terrible looking moments. It might not have amazing 'sakuga', but it's a very well directed show with a lot of energy invested into every scene. I think Shirobako shows just how interesting you can make scenes of people just sitting around talking look. Hyouka, of course, is another very good example.

Sket Dance is on Crunchyroll, and it's pretty enjoyable.

Did you finish Nozaki?

They did an okay job with the episodes beyond the first, but they just finished Odagiri's arc at episode 5. That leaves 7 episodes to do every single other witch plus the Seventh Witch arc. I guess you could do Meiko, Maria and Noa in a single episode a piece without really changing that much. The Seventh Witch arc needs at least a little space, imo.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu! is the funniest one I've seen, but if you don't watch FMP to begin with you'll understand it less.

I really liked Nozaki-kun out of recent comedy shows.

The point is that if a show turns out well or poorly is more a function of the talent avalaible and how much time they actually get to do the shit they need to do than just how much money is thrown at a project (they are related of course). As an example, Attack on Titan was very expensive to make and had a shit-ton of animators being thrown at bit but they could barely mange to deliver episodes to the TV stations on time (and sometimes they failed). So in between moments of sweet "sakuga" you get like still shost and pans for like 5 minutes at a time. The production was a mess even though the "budget" was "high".

Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Episode 54
CE6o_8RUsAAoXGp.png

Wonder when we will hear Jack Atlus and other 5D's characters speak. Should be fun.

I love how ARC-V does a good job of setting the stage here. I miss entertainment duels with the poses and such but riding duels can be fun with the moving the roads and more. And at least the people in the slums are excited for it.
