Anime is finally getting saved.

BBB 08

For all the supposed world building that this series has supposedly been doing till now, it failed to explain some really basic facts about the whole setting. The origins and the nature of those blood superpowers remains completely effusive. Deadman Wonderland did a better job than this show does. Till this episode I assumed that they were something that appeared in the New York after the "incident". But no, it seems the whole world and not just the Jerusalem is and has, for long time, been inhabited by a full assortment of these newly introduced casters and various other magical wackos like Zapp's master. There are quite a few other things that I would prefer being more clearly established in the space of this 8 episodes. I want my exposition dammit and preferably at the beginning of the show and not in the last seconds of it. Feed it to me with a spoon.

The uneven nature of this show continues with this episode being one of the better ones. There have been further developments on the White&Black fron, Zapp&Chain (best two characters) comedy was on point and so was the weirdo master of the former. I'm not quite sure why everyone could see this super vampire as I thought it was established they can be only seen with Leo's eyes but oh well. Clearly he wasn't "super" enough.

Seems like preview
we're going completely main plot next week.

Bloodbreeds can be seen, nowhere did it say they couldn't be seen. It only established that these Bloodbreeds cannot be shown on photos, surveillance cameras, or anything that has to do with recording. Plus they can't be differentiated with other people so they can easily blend with people since they do carry human features, plus they can take over a human body. The only thing Leo can do is see their red wing aura and expose their names in order to seal them.

As for the Worldbuilding it seems like Bloodbreeds have been around for a very long time considering what the Master said. Bloodbreeds have dimension portals to get around it's just that when New York and the Alterworld connected together it made it even much easier for them to get around. Also the main thing about Blood powers is that its sole objective is to be used against Bloodbreeds because the blood of Blood power users are toxic to the Vampires. It stop their regenerative abilities for a time being for regular Bloodbreeds, though for the 13th Elders it's highly needed to seal them because it's not that effective against them.

Damn, like a boss. It really shows, too. Easily one of the best anime ED's ever.
Did some quick Google since SSY means nothing to me, that's a show called Shinsekai yori right? Just hard a look at the ED, its pretty nice. The show seems pretty popular, but having a little look at the show, an easy pass from me. Still, nice ED!

Burn Up W is a collection of stories in small self contained OVA episodes. Its fanservicey and really very silly, as you would expect from an early ADV license. It was one of my first anime experiences so I look on it fondly. Rio pretty much manipulates men so she can get what she wants. Crafty girl.

Thanks, not into fan service personally at all, so that makes me a little weary, but having said that I'll give it a shot since it's short enough! :)

Sales were pretty low, no manga boost and not a lot of goods made AFAIK, so probably not :\

Edit: Wait, I remembered wrong. It did actually get a decent manga boost. So maybe...

We just have to ask nicely !

I swear nothing from that second paragraph was in the anime. Will check the first episode with the vampires again, maybe it's my reading comprehension skills that are the problem here.

And Hiroyuki Yamashita did the Neji part which I really like, especially the first half. Hence my comment.

Edit: Ohh I see what the mixup is. I meant "drew" as in the win draw lose. Not as in to sketch something.

Shame about the sales, maybe I'll just pick the manga up.

That show was consistently funny in every episode, in a way I haven't seen since School Rumble.

Forgot to mention, I've somehow become the family expert on anime. I have no goddamn clue how. Anyway at family get-together one of my cousins asked me if I had seen High School DxD. He started praising it as the best anime ever, I just stared at him. I flat out laughed when he started going on about Kiss Sis, one of my other cousins simply asked him "Do you watch only shit?" Another asked me about Boku no Pico...

I try to help people but when they go and watch Tokyo Ghoul over Gurren Lagann...
KissXSis and DXD are rad

The 4th episode had one of the 13th Elder explain that Blood power users have blood that is toxic to a Vampire which is why they don't drink their blood outright. Also you can infer that since Libra talks about Bloodbreeds a lot, it's one of their main objectives. Plus the opening episode talks about Libra being the organization that keeps balance in the city. Episode 8 also had the Master talk about a BloodBreed coming back after 3 decades so that shows that Bloodbreeds have been in the world for a long time. Also since you hear libra talk about some attacks in India in episode 8, it shows that the BloodBreed used a dimension portal to go from India to Hellsalem with the Master. Finally in episode 4 you see Chain using a camera to record the Bloodbreeds to send it to Klaus, but when Klaus looks at his phone you don't see the Bloodbreed but only KK and Starphase. So this completely proves the idea that Bloodbreeds can't be seen on recording devices. Even Abrams explains that as well.

But yeah there is definitely lots of information that explains a wide array of things. It's just that the information isnt dumped on us but told through other interesting ways. It's not like other shows where all the information is dumped on us and is explained by a person on every detail. It really doesn't spoonfeed the audience. The show is great for rewatches though especially if you want to get all those details in the background and everything. I mean the show is packed with lots of information, like last episode I saw Ben 10 in it. I also believe the dub would also be a great option as well.

Apparently Bikini Warriors is going to be shorts.

Though speaking of Queen's Blade-like things, Grimoire is getting a two-episode OVA.

Finished the 7th episode of Arslan. I feel like they started this whole tv project because they were watching Game of Thrones and one guy turned to his buddy and was like "hey Shinji, do we have anything like this? This Game of Thrones shit is pretty cool, we should like, do the same thing, but in anime." And then the other guy checked and was all like "Well shit, we already did the Game of Thrones thing in space with this guy Tanaka, let's go back and use his fantasy work."

Something I'm a little confounded by is why they went for very effeminate character designs for the Prince and the singer-rogue guy. They both could be mistaken for girls if you showed screencaps to random people on the street. Or a 50/50 toss up.

The first time the rogue guy shot the arrow from the tower, I totally thought it was a she. Like "Oh yeah, now we're gonna be introduced to this skilled archery girl who's gonna be part of the team." Then a scene later and lo and behold, it's actually this Han Solo knockoff. Very strange. I mean, look at this:

This just looks like our hero protagonist and the fair princess he's tasked to protect or something.

Technically, they've already made an adaption of Arslan. Sure, it's only 2 films and a 4-part OVA, but there's not much you can expect considering the actual novels are still ongoing. Anyway, I would consider this more of an adaption of an adaption seeing as they're using Arakawa's character designs. And they are remaking LoGH.

Well, hopefully not these people given the CGI in this, but some people.

The thing I don't get about Arslan, the manga only has 23 chapters out so far, they should catch up pretty fast, will the anime continue adapting the novels after catching up using Arakawa's art style, or will they stop at a certain point?

They will definitely pass the manga because it seems Arakawa's providing some new character designs that haven't been shown in the manga. So they will definitely cover the Novels considering the adaption is 2cours.

A few days ago I said that Tokyo Ghoul was going to be the most popular cosplay and what do you know? I was right! I probably saw 10 different Kanekis as well as assorted members of the supporting cast. Highlight of the show was finding a stall selling imported blurays and I will definitely be using their website in the future.

I got a lot of what I wanted and the free KlK tote bag was super useful, not pictured is my Log Horizon part 2 as it has already been lent out to a friend to watch.

Went Saturday. Most popular cosplays : people wearing Akatsuki cloaks (lol) and people wearing AoT uniforms (to be fair it does require more effort than the former).

I went to a con on my campus, and I saw so many Kaneki cosplayers who were just wearing the mask and telling everyone to shush. I saw like, two Touka and one Juuzou, who put some work in.

But the actual best costumes were a girl doing David Bowie from Labyrinth, a dude who put a nuts amount of work into a Borderlands bandit cosplay and this really cool Mad Hatter, with some working props in the costume.

So anime sucks.

Don't worry he grows up.

Oh, cool. Guess it'll be a "Simba as a cub/Simba as an adult lion" sorta transition.

Just finished another Arslan episode. Boy, it really reminds you of LOGH at times. Like, there was this one line where Narsus says "Assuming there are 300,000 in the Lusitanian army, this means each of us need only take care of 50,000." That was where I went Yup, this is from the same guy who did LOGH. This is LOGH as hell.

I also get the strong feeling of him incorporating ancient myth in the work. Like, the whole notion of there being these best-of-the-best knights who are legendary in battle and can slay a hundred men and so forth. That really evokes the King Arthur legends where you get the same sort of thing. Daryun says his personal horse is the swiftest steed in the empire and never tires and etc, and again, there's that grandiose larger than life aspect. Which I actually think is nice, I don't think it needs to be a sort of grounded Batman Begins take on this kind of material.

Man, I just made some killer sirloin steaks, kilbasa, asparagus for my daughter and baked potatoes on the grill; might be time to watch some Soma soon.

Punchline ep.7
I have no idea where this I'd going now, lol. I mean is Yuuta a
Boy or a girl? Was he a boy with a girl spirit? That kinda confused me...
The show is definitely more interesting than I thought it would be after the first couple episodes, that's for sure.

If you're getting confused now there's no way you'll be able to follow the plot later on.

You mean they're going into novel material right? Because they are definitely not adapting 14 novels in 2 cours.

Vision of Escaflowne 01-26 Complete

Have no idea who recommended this (probably someone in this thread) but I've slowly managed to get my way through it. It's a bit more shoujo than I would've liked but overall I don't regret the time I spent watching it.

The animation is truly superb, and that is very upsetting. It's like watching an old video of an extinct bird, you are awed at the graciousness of it's flight, but saddened by a real sense of loss. There's also an odd sense of nostalgia - like many here I grew up on 90's anime and Escaflowne embodies a lot of that distinct style that has been lost in the ravages of time.

The show starts off with our standard highschool protagonist transported into a fantasy world, but unlike the modern incarnation of this trope with SAO (and the million other coattail riders), there isn't that disgusting sense of the world being constructed as a means of masturbatory wish fulfilment. Rather, we are quickly shown a reality of war and death in quite graphic detail and the main charter is often sidelined to powerlessly watch horrors unfold. The world of Gaea is constructed very basically, with no complex political or economic systems being explored, and it feels that at times the array of beast men only exist for padding. However at the same time what is shown is done rather well, with a very nice array of scenes and settings which give an understanding of the various locales and the culture of the people who live there.

The mecha battles are very, very nice. There is a lot less weight to deal with than Gundam, which words very nicely with the way the battles play out and the human. The lack of Pokemon backgrounds during battles is also incredible, allowing us to see the full detail of the battles. Mecha design is very good, with the titular Escaflowne looking unique without being overdesigned or burdened with ridiculous design elements. The dragon form much less so but not really an issue. All the mecha from the various countries are also unique looking, with it being very clear which mech is which even in dark or far off shot scenes.

The female characters are OK, with only Merleru (or whatever that cat girl is called) standing out as particularly bad. Like most non anime fiction et in this type of world the women are afforded a large degree of autonomy and technical ability. I think it works well in generally keeping the women off the battlefield as we expect from these sort of medieval style fiction, but not making them purely window dressing or overly annoying. They do talk a bit too much about their feelings for the men though, and a lot of their plot points can be a bit too entwined with the question of which man will they get with. The romance is pretty standard for a shoujo, with the girl being torn between two pretty boys. They do go off track into unfamiliar territory with the character with the love child, but they quickly and bizarrely at the last second return to the standard trope nonsense of romantic love conquers all. Interstellar pls.

I would've liked to see more scenes of how the MC's family were dealing with her having disappeared. I'm not a fan of the way they handled it. I really loved those scenes in Xamd Lost Memories, where his mother and father search tirelessly to find their missing son, as I think it helps add weightiness to the show, and not just have it being an extended dream state where you are gone for a while but you come back and nothing changed.

The music is great, with a nice collection of memorable themes for different situations and moods.

As I alluded to before, the ending isn't very good. The romance suddenly goes back to standard, a huge plot element is created at the last second and then dropped as if it isn't extremely significant
the nuke
but worst of all Dilandeu being
Allen's sister
was complete and utter unredeemable bullshit. What did that add to the show? The ending comes suddenly and makes the show feel like it rushed to a conclusion.

8.5/10

From what I've seen, Mad Max doesn't appeal to me at all, just not fond of that aesthetic. I'm glad everybody likes it however.

Well these are the same people that said Cowboy Bebop was a good anime, and we saw how bad that turned out. Its reasons why one should see Tomorrowland instead.

I know it's DTL , but as someone who Love cowboy beebop, for it's graphics, for it's characters, for it's IMPRESSIVE soundtrack and that universe ( lawless but so adventurous )
i can only say :
Cowboy beebop is not a good anime , it's a great anime

What do squids buy with money anyway? Splatoon says they buy weapons, clothes, and especially hats. Ika buys shrimp. Whatever works for her. Someone is jealous of Nagisa. A little too jealous. Chizuru is a wonderful dick. Looks like Ika's appetite has a limit after all. So where has Ika been staying anyway? The shop I guess. Ika experiences video games for the first time. And knows how to get a good bed. Ika vs fake Ika. Which squid girl is superior? Hopefully the one that doesn't lose her head. Then again the real one can't figure out which one she is. Now let's never see the second fake one again.
