Shokugeki no Souma - 01

Well, that was funny. I like the drawing style (the food's looking fucking delicious, I wanna bite into my laptop) and the humour isn't bad, too, so I'm gonna keep watching it.

High School DxD BorN - 01

It was exactly like I expected: Shitty battles and boobs. I'm seriously asking myself why the hell Issei isn't changing his stupid ass hairstyle, it's so stupid and ugly I CAN'T

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku - 01

I liked the first season very much so I had high expectations on this one and I wasn't disappointed. There's a bit too much yaoi going on between Hikigaya and Totsuka BUT it's also kinda hilarious.

Hey anime gaf, my first time posting in here... I think?

I used to be a cartoon snob, insisting the only anime worth watching was by Studio Ghibli or Satoshi Kon. Then less than a year ago I happened on the 2014 spring anime thread here and experienced the onset of strange urges and or cravings. I think I started with Katanagatari and then moved on to stuff from the spring season -- probably most of it, before getting into the crunchyroll back catalog.

I don't seem to be able to stop. Some personal favorites are Moribito, Silver Spoon, Usagi Drop and Toradora. Really looking forward to more Haikyuu as well -- that show snuck up on me and by the end I felt like a kid watching after-school cartoons every week.

I want to say thanks to the active community here -- the reviews and recommendations have been great over the past year and led me to a ton of gems I wouldn't have found or given a chance otherwise.

I think I've probably watched over 50 series at this point, and that's not counting the ones I abandon. Help me gaf!

Shirobako was the highlight of a pretty sparse winter season for me. It's one of the only shows I've quit after two minutes, and I only gave it a second chance because there was so little else to watch. Yona was fun too.

So you're looking for more shows to watch? Are you only watching relatively new titles/ones that are streaming?

Glad you enjoyed these shows. And yeah, this forum is a great resource. It has helped me broaden the animes I watched.

Anime Sols did say not to worry about Dororo, because another company had taken interest in it. I had a feeling it was Discotek!

Nice to see Discotek having a sub-only release on BD, I'm hoping that will lead to more BDs from them in general.

They're quickly becoming my favorite company due to the properties they've been picking up.

I'm perpetually looking for more shows to watch, and I'll pretty much hunt anything down. Definitely interested in recommendations. Fantasy with realism, stuff with a lot of detail, and character centered dramas/comedies/romances with good dialogue are probably the things I naturally look for, but one contradiction I've learned: Don't judge a cartoon by its cover. I'll watch an episode or two of anything, there are a lot of shows I love I would have skipped otherwise.

They're definitely up there for me. They have a lot of properties that I love, and their BDs always have great video quality. Can't wait for their Castle of Cagliostro release. I hope that they get the second CCS movie soon, that's all I need to complete my BD collection of the series!

Personally I really hope they release a BD of Angel's Egg. If they're willing to do sub-only BDs now, that's something they should do ASAP.

haha

I guess Sushio loves the US. Probably spening more time here than working on LWA2.

Also not that anyone cares but minor tidbit I picked up/confirmed at Matsuri: Wakabayashi is the head of PR for Trigger. It's fairly obvious but worth mentioning if it wasn't known already.

Really? Funimation seemed to get most of the big shows this season.

To me it seems like all the interesting shows were picked up by Crunchyroll. Funimation didn't grab anything that I really felt like I needed (which I'm thankful for, since it made it easy for me to cancel my sub).

Saekano 00 & 01

I thought I should put my money where my mouth was before I call out series as awful without at least dipping my toes into it. Saekano's episode 00 is off to a rough start. Usually this type of episode littered with fanservice bordering on the line of ecchi is left for an after the fact OVA. It's odd to see it as the first episode aired and sets the tone for the rest of the series in all the wrong ways. If this had been an OVA after the main series had aired I think I would have found the series as a whole a lot less offensive yet the decision to air this as the "first episode" did not fill me with any encouragement that this series will be anything but pandering crap.

It's hilariously fitting that Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is the voice actor of Saekano's protagonist Tomoya when he also voiced Kirito from Sword Art Online and Sora from No Game No Life. Kirito and Sora are both self-insertion fantasies of a different type than Tomoya but I find this role to be Yoshitsugu's most offensive. Tomoya is the typical otaku who shuns all 3D girls yet is surrounded by beautiful talented women who all find him attractive. Each of the characters is some played out trope that has been done much better in other harem anime. The tsundere is probably the worst offender. She is just so utterly generic I couldn't help but shake my head in disgust.

The worst thing about Saekano is that it is painfully aware of how generic and trashy it is. Each line of dialogue from Senjougahara clone when Tomoya asks for an opinion of his game felt like the writer talking about his own creation. There is nothing unique or interesting that hasn't been seen before in other generic harem anime.

What I assume the animators tried to do to differentiate Saekano from other harem is putting the focus on fanservice front and center by airing ep0 as the first episode. Every shot of the girls in both episodes had the camera focus on a sensual aspect of their body, incredibly male gazey. The animators also use a gaudy NGNL style filter that over saturates the colors whenever the camera takes on the first person perspective of Tomoya. I assume this is a nod to NGNL but I didn't find it appealing then and I certainly don't find it appealing now.

By the end of this all I could think was "I should just rewatch Welcome to the NHK instead." You couldn't pay me any amount to watch more of this.

If Crunchy didn't have JoJo and Shokugeki no Souma I'd probably cancel as the only other shows they're simulcasting this season I have any interest in are Rin-ne (which is probably just okay), and Fate/Stay (which is bad minus the battle porn). It doesn't matter if they got 30 shows if none of them interest me.

I feel it's an apples to oranges situation, if you're more a fan of action anime Funimation stomped Crunchy by getting pretty much all of the exciting ones coming this season.

How informed are you on "the classics"? Stuff like Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion and so forth?

Some people like to make a myanimelist or hummingbird account to keep track of all the stuff they've watched and how they felt about it. It also helps others to give recommendations at a glance.

Maybe that's it. I tend to avoid action shonen shows. So at least so far the only shows of even passing interest on Funimation is Nagato, High School DxD, and Denpa Kyoshi.. Meanwhile there's a boat load on CR that I have at least a passing curiosity in.

Yep, this is kyoto animation. Guess we'll see if this goes anywhere besides high school concert band nostalgia.

It's like K-On except not as good, but it does have Hyouka tier graphics.

Euphonium - [1]
I like it so far. It's really chill and the characters are quite likeable.

Hello Kirino Mosaic - 01

Kirino mosaic has 2 things that make it stood out of the rest :
-Best proper english since dogdays S3
-Karen.

Just look at that karen stealing the show

Hello%21%21%20Kiniro%20Mosaic%20-%2001_02.jpg

She's Back !!! And English Rules !

I mean every character is excellent and after so many month the cast is again at the top of it's game.. But KM is something else ... a proper slice of life anime with comedy.. that doesn't go toward pandering.
Something simple yet effective. With a main couple that is so earnest , so pure in their desire that you can't hate them ..

YES !! That is Kirino Mosaic , now in "Hello" mode... it's as glorious as ever !!

Ouch, I can feel the hatred from here. While I understand the genericness of this harem anine, I found it had some very funny moments and enjoyed the ride, but then again, I'm new to Anime and has not grown jaded of these overplayed stereotypes. Of course, I really liked SAO as well, so I guess I'm prone to enjoying bad anime at times.

I really didn't get the gold, dud-gold explanation. Are people that are not gold called dud-gold? What's the point..?

Aside from that it seemed good.

You just have a different definition of what constitutes a good or bad anime than phoenix296.

Of course I quite enjoyed Saekano, so I would say that.

Man I haven't realized till now, but Gintama has some Godtier OST.

Its Bad Luck To See A Spider
http://youtu.be/vwitZlKZ_kI
I really love the heavy metal it's so good. It also really fits the tone of the Red Spider arc, especially for Jiraia's entrance.

This is legitimately chill and it gives of a somber tone, plus who doesn't like blues.

How can anyone not love Madao's OST. It really does fit his character, based Madao.

Now I'm really curious if the new season will have a new set of OST. I mean it really doesn't matter because the OST currently is brilliant.

Saekano 00 & 01

I thought I should put my money where my mouth was before I call out series as awful without at least dipping my toes into it.

I had this exact same mindset going into SAO, and when I finished that, I came out with just plain dissatisfaction as opposed to the hatred I felt before watching it.

It's hilariously fitting that Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is the voice actor of Saekano's protagonist Tomoya when he also voiced Kirito from Sword Art Online and Sora from No Game No Life.

I could probably name five different anime with similar characters voiced by this dude. Every time I see a show with this guy voicing an MC, that's usually a bad sign.

The worst thing about Saekano is that it is painfully aware of how generic and trashy it is. Each line of dialogue from Senjougahara clone when Tomoya asks for an opinion of his game felt like the writer talking about his own creation. Yeesh, this whole thing is giving me flashbacks to my SAO experience. Except I didn't drop that show at episode 1 (or, technically 2, in your case) like I probably should have.

I really didn't get the gold, dud-gold explanation. Are people that are not gold called dud-gold? What's the point..?

Aside from that it seemed good.

From what I got out of it, it's something like this, there's a limited number of schools who goes to nationals but the number of golds given aren't limited, so schools who get gold but don't go to nationals are dud-gold. Ex: Three schools got gold but only two go to nationals, so one school got a dud-gold.

Is it your first time watching the series, Narag? In case you aren't aware, I think a reminder of the 'SPECULAH! charts' is in tow:

Forum:Episode Charts - So Ra No Wo To Wiki
http://soranowoto.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Episode_Charts#Ye_Olde_Charts

They certainly raise some interesting details on it that can help give a better defined atmosphere to the series (a strange mishmash of little instances after all, but I personally think it worked).

Thanks /XX/, these charts got me in the mood to rewatch this.

What I expected : Not K-on!

What I got : Not K-on!

I'm satisfied. Not every show with instruments must be expecte by people to be fucking K-on! because K-on is such a misleading show.

Hopefully KyoAni will focus more on the band playing and competitions instead of girls and guys doing random shit SoL.

What a girl. Imagine she pulling tricks on you

Guys , seakano is IMO , bad ...

But that's just like saekano ...
No need to mix other shows with faults saekano has. like the poor develloppement of character , the insane behavior of the Male MC . and how generic everything feels in it.

I just can't forgive seakano for featuring a MC that has a goal , yet none of the plans to achieve it. Nothing can save this part ..it's innaceptable.

He wants to make a visual novel that will make a revolution without :
-a proper story
-a proper theme of said story
-No design for the characters or guidelines for said Main heroine character
-No planning
-No finances

Sériously ???

This is an insult.
The only escuse the anime give is : " everyone is an otaku , it'll work somehow". The escuse the main Guy give is : " i have passion ! I've got a sudden idea" and that's it

i'm sorry but no.. Just NO.
He spend DAYS, no working on his supposed project and instead playing and they forgive him ??
Give me a break! As someone who actually wanted to make this kind of games , i know how hard it is to make even a small project and i can't forgive saekano for this ridiculous , unfair , distorted view of game creation.

NO.

Saekano is trash ..trash of the highest order. it's not an anime that sells you dream. it's selling you a direct trip in hell ..such misinformation should be punished by law.
and no amount of anime, Ln or Vn references will save this show.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Gintama's OST is great, but honestly they really haven't added anything new to it in years it seems like...

Once I saw the funi app on PS4, and finally looked through their library I gotta agree. Arslan, Ninja Slayer look intriguing. I'll still keep my crunchy sub for Jojo, and hopefully that Mushishi movie.

The vitriol in the last few posts of SAO and Saekano... It hurts and I may start to quietly weep while I play Type-0, you're mean to make me so sad, lol.

Sorry , i like SAO ( avid reader of the books ) but even With all the flaws Sao has, it doesn't have such an incoherent story as seakano.

On the eve of Pleaides debuting (or maybe it's on Thursday, MX has a bigger share, I think), there's one magical girl show it reminds me of. While "collect x number of magical doodads" could describe any number of magical girl shows, the aesthetics and premise of doing it for a greater purpose brings to mind a somewhat obscure, VN-based one called Nanatsuiro Drops.

The only one of Unisonshift's VNs to be adapted to anime, making the hero into the lead magical girl's familiar is a better alternative than several other VNs that have used that premise. Plus, as befitting of Unisonshift's output, it's adorable, with soft pastels and a charming opening theme.

It lacks the car-wands, but if anybody remembers it or hasn't checked it out, I'd say to give it a shot.

We can agree here for sure, they shouldn't have put that ep.0 there, then left the story in the middle, but hey, it was funny.

Type-0? Funny because that's the score it deserves.

type/10 :p

The knife is being...

Type-0 is also bad.

Well, at least I got tired of it.

Blood blockade battlefront - 01

The setting is ok , the characters are fine so far , the powers are cool and the vilain seems crazy enough ( like some sort of DC joker -like entity )

There is clearly some potential here and i like that .

Ayano Takeda won the 2013 Japanese Love Story award from Takarajimasha for her manuscript "We breathed the same air." Said manuscript was published in May 2013. Her second work was the first "Sound! Euphonium" novel released in December 2013. In addition to writing shorts published on the novel's website, she also wrote two additional novels in that series published in March and April 2015. A collection of the shorts will be published in May 2015.

The "Sound! Euphonium" series is not a romantic series at all. It's just as described: an adolescent drama focused around the concert band at North Uji and their attempt to go to the national concert. There were people who read that she won the Love Story award in 2013 and did not read that it was for a different novel.

Never read her other novel and i don't think Japanese will confused her novels.

Most people find Tari Tari forgettable, but the one thing it did was at least try to do an interesting arc with the one girl who had bulimia. Of course, this is a case where you have to massively lower your standards for Japan because most of their anime is about nothing at all, but by anime standards that was a pretty forward-thinking storyline. I just can't imagine this show doing anything like that. lol

Tari Tari was 2ch 2nd-best show of 2012, don't worry.
Not sure why seems west not liking this show though.
