My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu Too EP 2:

Wow. What a great episode. I didn't see the 2nd half coming at all even though it was all laid out in episode 1. Hikitani is such a great main character.

Takeo, a big dude with a heart of gold who didn't have any luck with woman due to his big stature and blocky face. His bestfriend Sunakawa is the opposite of him. A cool handsome man that almost every girls want, a totally shojo manga main character material. It all change when they encounter Yamato, a girl Takeo rescue from molester.

I've read the manga, so i know how this goes, and i'll say it. This is one good adaptation judging from 1st episode alone. It all so vibrant and i really like Takeo manly voice.

stop, stop

I'm beginning to appreciate this stupid fad and I haven't even watched the show D:

Well, like I said, it's the build up and payoff that really make it worth it.

Honestly, reading these impressions has gotten me to wonder how'd you react to G Gundam.

Another fantastic mecha show with a great romance with quite a bit of repetition (not particulary on the drama side, but on one aspect people may find frustrating).

It's also got stuff like this.

But like Eureka Seven, I feel like the payoff (and G Gundam has fantastic freaking payoff) is what makes it all worth it. The ending to both Eureka Seven and G Gundam are both so perfect in my opinion that I can't believe a sequel was even considered for the former.

I doubt I'd enjoy Gundam. In general I'd say I dislike mecha anime, though I watched few and don't want to judge what I've got little clue of. Well written characters and stories I'll obviously appreciate, but in general I'm not fond of the concept of mechs. When I got into anime nearly 2 years ago and saw so many Eva recommendation I went into it expecting to dislike it. Instead, that became one of my favorite shows. Remained the only mecha show I liked though. Gurren Laggan, Code Geass and even Gunbuster did ultimately little for me.

so this is how anime production turns to shit. Story is made up as they go, sounds about right and director is the creep that ruins everything, duh.

Not quite sure what to make of the new Animator Expo short. Loved the character designs, though. They really reminded me of Gosenzosama Banbanzai!

Well, I can't deny that you'd probably dislike Gundam. As a whole, even the fans generally agree that the franchise doesn't have that many great shows, with the exceptions being G Gundam, Turn A, War in the Pocket, etc.

Especially War in the Pocket. At a length of only six episodes, I'd say it's worth it even for people who dislike the mecha genre and is able to tell a really powerful story. You don't even need any other knowledge of Gundam to watch it.

Regardless, while I can't really understand your dislike of the concept of mechs, I'll accept it.

But War in the Pocket is definitely something you'd want to watch if you want something that doesn't bullshit around.

Not sure from your post if you actually know about this, but it's the same designer.

The best thing about the short was definitely the way it moved. The part with the husband coming back and the detectives getting uppity had some superb acting, classic Utsunomiya.

If this boobs-string business results in great sales, many studios will try real hard finding the next best boobs accessory for their shows.

edit:
I didn't even finish the show, lol.

Curious about that rant, I'll have to read it, after writing my overall thoughts up myself.

If I didn't feel like wasting so much time for it already I'd love to drop it, too. I actually can't bear watching it without doing something on the side, though.

But, but "fake lesbians pretending to be real lesbians except one of them is actually real and the other is possibly bi" has to have been the premise for -at least- a manga at some point.
I remember him being mad at the Kharmy break up at the end of S1.

I don't think anyone in Japan would benefit from pretending to be gay though. Certainly not at a high school. lol

I actually wasn't sure, but the characters looked so similar that I had a feeling it was the same person. It definitely looked great, and the idea behind it seemed pretty interesting. I'd love to see expanded into a longer work.

Punchline - 01

You know, trashy fanservice and premise aside, I found this one to be surprisingly enjoyable. A combination of the absurdity of the situation (lewd powered super heroes, giant goddamn straw weapons, and the fucking
cat porn
scene) and the bright, colorful world somehow makes the entire experience really fun. Its got style and it doesn't rely entirely on "omg boobs" style of humor in order to get its kicks.

That ED is pretty fucking great too.

The Rolling Girls up to 12 (End) final thoughts and a bunch of stuff about the last arc that confused me

The Rolling Girls started off well. The first two episodes are a fun action series with lots of great colors and entertaining events. as we see a fight between two superpowered girls and their normal teams of supporters. After that, though, the real nature of the show reveals itself: this is not the story of those with superpowers, but of four "normal" girls, wandering around this crazy version of future Japan and trying to solve problems without the help of special powers. This may sound potentially good, but the show never quite managed to regain the level of fun and engagement of those first two episodes. They really are the best part of this show.

Despite that, though, The Rolling Girls was decent enough to keep watching it, and today I watched the last two episodes and finished the series. I won't write out what happened in everything since the last episode I reviewed, which I think was episode 1 or 2, but I do have some things to say, particularly about the last arc that finishes the show.

In short, The Rolling Girls ends with a pretty seriously mono no aware ending. I saw it coming, but it really did get to me a bit; no one dies, but
one girl is permanently separated from the others.
It was sad stuff, I didn't want that! Of course, the series ends by focusing on their good memories together and such, but they were together for such a short time, I wish it lasted longer. I hope this series gets a sequel sometime where she comes back, as unlikely as that is. IO thought the series ended on a high note; it may have been sad, but it was well done and took its subject fairly seriously, though the humor never goes away. Despite the sadness and the show's failure to live up to its potential, my last thoughts on this show were that it was pretty good. This is a good series I am glad to have watched.

However, I did find some of the story elements in the last arc, episodes 10 through 12, very confusing. I watched the whole show, but some things here just didn't make sense. Can someone help me here?

Okay... so, first, in ep. 10, the girls get separated. They eventually meet up again, but only after meeting with several characters who are engaged in seemingly separate, but apparently related, stories. But uh... who was that girl who blue-hair found in the dungeon? Was she some member of that rival girl (from ep. 1/2)'s team? I'd completely forgotten who she was by the time she appeared there.
And why in the world would blue-hair stop her escape attempt, she has to have known how bad a place she was in... that was really weird. Of course she was rewarded by being put in jail too, but still... what? That made no sense.

Second, why was
Momo's real mother acting evil
? So, she used to be good, but then changed and was being evil and taxing the people horribly and stuff. I guess there was some connection between this and the main villains, those being led by eyepatch woman, but I have no idea what it was.
If eyepatch woman had somehow convinced/forced Momo's mother (the woman in the pink dress and such) to turn evil, why and how? I don't get it.
And why, exactly, did she abandon her daughter? I don't get that either, if the series explained it; I saw the scene of her abandoning her, but... why?

And on another related note, third, why did
Momo's adopted mother try so hard to keep Momo from trying to stop the tyrant, and knocked out Momo when she got there to find her fighting, only to... attack her herself then. That was kind of weird. I get the idea of not wanting people to fight for no reason, and who the other woman really was, but still, with the way she was behaving, someone needed to do something...

Continuing on with this storyline, fourth, there was this whole thing about the 'main family' and 'branch family'. I know that eyepatch woman is from one faction of the family and the old guy and the samurai-like woman who faces her from the other, but what is the connection between this and Momo's mother's domain? I think there was one. And what happened in the past between the two family branches, to split them apart? I think the series tried to explain this but it didn't make much sense, as with a lot of this.

And fifth, who were those factions that were attacking eyepatch woman's base? They were obviously her enemies, but had we seen them before? One was being called "evil", but I don't remember anything about those people...and then they stopped after some special object that eyepatch woman had stolen was taken out of her base by the main girls, or something. I'm not clear on why any of this was happening. Eyepatch woman makes some connection between "evil" groups like those and something about why she wants to conquer the world / go to space / whatever, but I didn't get it and don't want to watch the episode again right now to try to figure it out; I'd need to watch like three episodes for sure, to see if it'd make more sense then. But it didn't make sense the first time, so I'm not sure how much that would help.

Oh yeah, and it sure was convenient that ninja guy bonking professor alien on the head made him remember who he was, finally...

Still though, even though I was confused quite a bit in the last arc, and the show never was as good after ep. 2 as before that, I did like The Rolling Girls. The characters are likeable, the various places they visit quite different and each unique in their own ways, and many of the characters the girls meet along the way are also interesting, with their own good stories.

Haven't watched anime in a while aside from the odd Shirobako episode here and there, but decided to give Sound! Euphonium a try because I'm a KyoAni and Yamada fanboy. I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was a very solid production. The art is great and I thought Yamada did a good job with Kumiko and the framing in this episode in general.

Kumiko is a typical shoujo protagonist and I love it lol.

Or anywhere for that matter.
There's probably a sitcom that you could write about a girl pretending to be a lesbian so that she can be the top yuri mangaka in the country.

Oregairu 2

He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

But we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero, he's a silent guardian... a watchful protector. A Dark Knight.

I chuckled a bit at the framing here, but it works well for what the scene is trying to evoke, since they are basically suppose the fill the negative space in the relationship between the two.

But still, the Batman is back and it's great.

Late response but ...

Plastic Memories - 01

Nope, this is stupid. If the Sybil system in Psycho Pass is too obviously evil then this android company should be called "Literally Hitler Industries". So they produce androids with a synthetic soul that have a lifespan of roughly 8 years and then have to be 'shut down'.

I don't think it was made clear whether or not the company "designed" the robots with a life span of roughly 8 years vs that being the limit of their technology at this current point. That they can predict to the very hour when the personality of the robot starts to degrade just seems more like a story contrivance to me than any indicator that the company is doing this for kicks. We'll see though.
