So, this seasons is looking fairly uninspiring so far. At most I can see myself watching Gintama, BBB and Teekyuu but I can't foresee any of those being "excellent".

Lots of people, no doubt, are enjoying titles like Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, Nisekoi and Shokugeki no Soma but those works do nothing for me.

I must confess that I haven't even tried Euphonium but the subject matter is of no interest to me. I'm sure it will be well produced but unless I hear that it's truly special a la Hyouka I don't even see any point in checking it out.

In these kind of horribly dead seasons there's usually a title or two that I had never thought about but that nevertheless emerges as a series of note after a weeks. Hopefully that happens here as well or else I'll probably just stick to a limited backlog of titles.

Yea, I have not been really impressed with this crop thus far and indeed this might be the weakest season seen since Winter at least Winter 2014, maybe longer.

This is well made, music is really nice, no surprise there but man it's so boring. These people have passion about making anime which is a utter garbage soul crushing job apparently, duh. Key animators don't do their job properly ever and make everything worse for everyone. CG this 2D that , I could just read this thread instead. this show isn't for me zzz

Lol, I went through the same thing today. I made it to ep.12, but damn, it's slow. I do appreciate actually having adult characters and setting for once though...

Maturity, bitches.
Shokugeki no Soma 02

That was a dick move Erina! Soma's rice practically had you orgasming.
I would have failed him on the spot. And no time did he wash his hands which is basic food hygiene. He also threw knives about which is extremely dangerous. He has no place in any kitchen.

Every season is a backlog season for me, but I felt like trying a few currently airing shows, which I haven't done much since about 2012. I really enjoyed the first episode of Sound! Euphonium, although I don't know the first thing about brass instruments. It reminded me a little of Girls und Panzer. I did try Duingeon but wasn't feeling it at all, though I might give it a try later.

Trying the second episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, it's a bit better than the first one, but I'm not totally sold. Will probably try it again when I can marathon it.

Seems about the same as every other season lately to me. Probably better to pick up a different hobby like I'm doing with FF XIV until people say anime is good again.

While Shirobako definitely gets better as it goes along it starts off pretty good. If you don't like it within the first few episodes it's probably not for you.

Triage X - 1

Here I thought it would have some of that Highschool of the dead magic since the source material is from the same mangaka, but the show seems just like utter trash. Mediocre animation, weird story and fanservice that hits all the wrong notes. Nothing salvageable for me.

The only thing in common HSOTD and Triage X is the artist.

HSOTD was written by another person.

Also where were his gloves!!!

I also didn't see him have a fire extinguisher nearby, that's a fire code violation!

Whilst for me its strongest in a while. Frankly too many shows and all bunched together. But maybe that will change once I get into shows a bit more. Though with most of it all being adaptations, theres a thought to why I'm not just reading tne source material that will get time to breathe that anime never gets.

There's a reason why I prefer animation over the source material. It has color! And music! And motion! And voices! Visual novels have almost all of that except for the motion, which is why they're my second biggest investment. I don't read manga very much anymore, and I've only dabbled in LNs once - DanMachi itself being that one example.

I'm another one of those who are really liking this season.

tbh i mostly find that with very limited exceptions motion in particular can significantly detract from some stories because it's very expensive to have full motion for everything so animation tends to use shortcuts which, while acceptable, kinda screw things around for me (weird character movements, non-functional crowds etc)

but then I've always been a comic-panelling-is-art kind of guy

I can certainly see that, a lot of the shows feel like the same show with a bit of variance thus far.

I'm probably enjoying three times as many shows this season compared to last. This season has been amazing so my backlog can go kick rocks for another season.

It seems Arslan Senki is gonna be adapted farther than the manga adaption by Arakawa. It's most likely gonna follow the Novel series, so it's definitely gonna be more than 1 cour which is good.

I guess it's easy to avoid filler endings when the manga -> anime was preempted by novel -> manga. The more interesting question will be way down the line if/when the manga/anime catches up to the novels will they continue down their own path or will they wait for the novels to finish

Stardust Crusaders 38

Pet Shop is awesome, too bad he's wasted on a battle with Iggy the worst character

Linebarrels of Iron 10-12

The Christmas/Helios two-parter was fairly intense for the Judean People's Front. The guy in charge of the lasers was a bit one-note with his desire to just destroy everything, but this is, by far the most heroic thing Koichi has done. The love triangle element is getting played up a little stronger too, I'm noticing.

Especially in the episode right after. I'm cool with beach episodes and the need to breathe after an intense two parter. It's the kind of thing the chief would do. Not sure if the tentacle squid was needed - the episode had plenty of standard beach elements even without that. at least Jack disposed of it fairly quickly. And using Linebarrel on it would've been like the old hypothetical scenario of stopping a fly with a nuke.

Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 13

Pretty decent end to the first half. Some random drama with Minami thrown in for no reason. For how badly done Mio's drama in the earlier episodes was, the rain and the letter at the end were really good ways to end it on. And I guess it's setting up the CG's President Kuroi at the end with the shadowed face on that lady in the office? Maybe the evil stepmother for the Cinderella Girls to play up that motif, I suppose.

Random question, are there any other decent series out on Crunchyroll that is set in a fantasy world like SAO, Log Horizon, or the new Dungeon series?

Hunter x hunter?

One piece (but don't watch it, read it)

Magi was also excellent but the manga is ongoing and season 1 is a bit rushed especially starting out.

Future card buddyfight 100 (hundred) Episode 1 (engDub)
CCRE9BxUMAAtqjQ.jpg

Ah everyone is back and just so entertaining. Enjoyed the new OP though kind of wish they could have had fripside do it in english and the new ED is also good in english, can easily be catchy and memorable. The ed was kind of sweet with how it sounded and touching on a friendship level.

Episode wise the return of the Mighty Sun Fighter, Luminize Crimson Dragon Fist was a great start to buddyfighting. So many good cards like Crimson Battler Drum Bunker Dragon and The Skies In Your Hand. I do miss Boomerang Dragon from Down Under with that accent and Roaring Slash Gargantuan Punisher
though Gigantic Punisher is even more incredible

Seems like it will be a dark season.

I finished S1 already and really enjoyed it. I'm hoping thete is an S2 soon!

Oh, bad huh? What's the issue with it? Is it a comedy, action, romance, coming of age story? Or is it an animal version of School Days?

Dog Days isn't bad.
It's pretty silly and dumb, but in a good way. Some really good effects porn too

Trinity seven main appeal is without a doubt is the characters. then the music.

It's incredible how weak the magic system of the show is and the world building is lacking in many areas.
But despite all of that , the show is ok , if anything
I think the show does a decently good job of world-building, it just does so VERY slowly. Even in the manga, world-building bits are dribbled out here and there, and I still don't know the whole story; either the writer is just deliberate in pacing the plot, or it's being made up as it goes along, but the many hints from earlier suggest to me that that's not the case, or at least not mostly.

As for the magic system, what's so wrong with it?

Also :
Levi >Akio>Mira>Sora>Lieselotte>Arin>Yui>Lilith>Selina>Hijiri>llia
I'm not sure if I could put them all in order...

Also it made me lol how all those students got sucked in by the Breakdown event but no one brought it up later.
This is something the show never explains or mentions again, yeah. It's not a common occurance, though -- the other times in the show that awful things like that happen, they ARE a plot point.

However, one of the major points of the series is that this is an awful world that is falling apart. The idea clearly is that these students are so used to tragedies that they don't always care when they happen around them. The series' constant ping-ponging back and forth between comedy and tragedy is a bit weird, but I actually think it works for once in this series, everywhere other than the one case of the breakdown phenomenon you mention -- that's the weird outlier, a quite bad thing which they just don't seem to care about as much as even the other bad things that happen later in the series.

Still though, considering how bad shape the world is in -- people and whole cities vanishing on a regular basis -- it's understandable that people would be used to tragedy. I'm glad that it's not just a super-depressing tragedy show though, there's just as much fun and silliness; the lighter tone is a good contrast.

I also like how the cast and main character aren't quite as stereotypical as some. I mean, they are, but the MC isn't just another "I will protect the girls" character (he wants to save Hijiri, more so than anyone else
, even if Hijiri is actually his enemy.
), and he isn't invincibly strong either -- the girls are actually mostly competitive with him in terms of magic. For instance, a bit later in the manga, there is a magical tournament...
First round, MC Arata and Lise vs. Yui and Arin. Yui and Arin win.
There's some of this in the anime as well -- this isn't an IS-like level of "the guy is the best once he tries" obnoxiousness. I think the anime had a bit more "I will save girls" stuff from him than I remember from the manga, but it's still mostly the same. Arata is of course the main character, but the girls aren't just afterthoughts in comparison.

Of course the series has plenty of problems, it IS a stupid harem action anime after all, but I do like it more than most in the genre.

Shokugeki no Soma 2

The music is perfect. Watching Erina get harassed by Soma angels is still really funny. Pretty great adaptation so far. Cant wait till next week when best girl shows up.

I finished S1 already and really enjoyed it. I'm hoping thete is an S2 soon!

Sweet! Hope S2 comes out soon. I got caught up in the manga and the series gets so damn good.

Dog Days is basically a fantasy slice of life, with some action here and there. Its not amazing but not terrible either. Lots of cute cat/dog people and fanservice. Its just fun.
