teacher can't control the class but maybe it was just homeroom?

deku's mum not fullscreening the video, typical mum

that was really good. But with this pacing, 13 eps means they're only gonna get maybe 2 arcs in or so. which is fine if it stays this quality, I think.

Hanasaku Iroha 1-26

Been years since I saw this since I only watched it when it aired way back in 2011 (good lord it's been that long already?) and I loved it just as much as I did back then. Pretty much all of the characters were endearing to an extent, except Enishi and Takako. The bit with the movie scam was probably the weakest just because of them, but I think the 2nd half of the series overall was a little bit weaker than the first just because it shifted focus to side characters most of the time instead of spreading it out more evenly throughout the series.

The ending was just a slightly bitter sweet and kind of reminded me why the movie ended up disappointing me since it was just a twp part side story of sorts when I really would have preferred a proper epilogue to the series.

Next up... no idea. Maybe I'll give SNAFU or Chunibyo a watch.

I enjoy the sedate pace that the setting is unfolded at. It never feels forced and the world building is well incorporated into whatever is happening with the characters in a particular episode.

All these names starting with A though.

Not bad. The animation's really good, but that's expected with BONES. I'm surprised how traditionally paced the first episode was though, given that this is only 13 episodes. Doesn't feel like much happened at all. It's kinda funny that in the last year or so there's been a number of anime taking advantage of the superhero boom. One Punch Man, Concrete Revolutio, My Hero Academia... I wonder if there'll just be more and more of this over the years now.

Yep. The funny thing is that this carries on with every major undine.
If you ever continue to The Natural, you'll find a season that is basically all about exploring Neo Venezia. It's pretty amazing.

Honestly, as much as I disliked the show after the Tokyo Arc (I had no idea who Okada was at the time I guess :p), I didn't mind the ending because it just felt so Japanese. It's not a "we got money somehow and saved the inn! Let's have a musical montage as we celebrate!". The characters move on with their lives and apply the lessons they've learned. Maybe the inn will re-open in the future, but it isn't really about that.

It's funny because the next PA Works show kind of ends in the same way, with the kids trying to put on a festival at their school before it's demolished and basically failing.

Unpacked the stuff I got while in Japan:
Finally managed to find a Kyon figma, so now I got all 5 main characters from Haruhi.
Is School Idol Days a Love Live parody of School Days? lol

Great episode, Bones came through with the animation. I like it a lot so far, looking forward to seeing more powers and Izuku's come up.

The Wind Rises: Review (2013, Film)
Fantastic write-up!

You know, Hayao Miyazaki's directional career will at least continue for a bit more, just not in the same way of those ol' big productions, and even then Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Takahata don't fully believed his words either (as the same thing happened before):

The First Three-Way Conversation Coinciding with the Thirtieth Anniversary of Studio Ghibli Miya-san said:
Suzuki: Miya-san announced his retirement last year. This means that you would be able to create freely from now on. What are you thinking of doing after this?

Miyazaki: What do you mean? [Laughter]

Suzuki: Doesn’t it only mean that you are walking away from commercial films?

Miyazaki: No, I’m just saying that I will no longer make full-length animated features.

Takahata: Wouldn’t it be okay for you to make feature films? [Laughter] When we released The Tale of Princess Kaguya to the press, I was asked what I thought of Miya-san’s retirement.

Miyazaki: The fault there is in the person who asked Paku-san that question.

Takahata: That is so true. But I did tell him, “Please do not be surprised if he retracts his decision to retire.” [Laughter] You’re that kind of person.

Will EVA-01 do an Izuna Drop on Godzooky?
I'd kinda prefer she did a 'Inazuma Kick' myself... :-D

Hey well I beat Danganronpa 1 and that was pretty good even though I knew the main twist so I'm gonna go ahead and do

DANGANRONPA THE ANIMATION 01???

WOW. And I thought Ace Attorney was taking the easy way out of just literally being the game but this makes that look creative (although it at least looks marginally better then AA and has better voice acting.) No chance of putting the defense attorney and the prosecutor on the wrong side when you just copy/paste.

Its hard to even joke about it because its so blatant. Everyone stands the same as their sprites even though it looks fucking terrible because this isn't a game and they don't look like they are from Doom in the anime, so what you get is a cluster of people standing around in random locations. During the intros they will even shift into their default sprite...then back to whatever sprite they were in before. Music is the same. Cutscenes are the same but redrawn. Sound effects are the same. Like damn this must have been the easiest project ever, 90% of the work was done for them. I dunno who this is supposed to be aimed at - people who played the game probably won't want to just see it on replay and people who didn't play the game should just...do that instead? I don't even know who would do something like thi-

YHOg740.png

Oh. Ohhhh.

Edit: I skipped around in later episodes for Sawashiro purposes and holy shit the trials are even worse copy/paste. I'm 90% certain the executions are just the actual in game cutscenes.

I Danganronpa anime was never going to work. Unless you think watching a dude trying to figure what NOEL meant is fun.

Really, some works are just meant to be played and not watched. That's why I don't get people who wanted an AA anime.

Another - 09 - 12 (End)

Aaaand I'm done.
One of the better comedies I've seen, not that many manage to make me laugh out loud. Has a very nice blend of eerie atmoshpere, comfyness, intrigue and hilarious situations. The endgame was delicious.
Can recommend.

Also, the cake gifs are hilarious, but where did those come from lol? I'm itching to post a lot of gifs, but this is better experienced going in with minimal knowledge for maximum entertainment value.

I'll have to reevaluate Mayoiga since I now know how I'm supposed to watch it. Could be fun. Or not, who knows at this point.

Great start for the new season. It was a very well used, and paced, seven minutes and fifty seconds. They give just enough to make it creepy an suspenseful. Great art direction and the animation of the stills seems far more fluid than season one.

During this scene my eyes were diverted to this sign of pure laziness. Just look at this building. They started by drawing lines to show brick work and then just stop resulting in a bunch of lazy horizontal lines without the verticals to compliment them. This is a clear sign of what the rest of the series is going to be like, a phoned in rush job, so I'm getting out now.

I like what I am seeing. But between One Punch Man, Concrete Revolution and now this, are hero shows going to be the next light novel fantasy world thing? I hope not.

Concrete Revolutio is actually interesting, thankfully.

Me during the episode.

I don't know how this show is going compare to the manga (which I haven't read yet) with it being 13 episodes, but if it's more stuff like this, I'm on board.

Especially if the show keeps it up with the optimism, wacky character designs, and the music. Oh man the music.

Spanish crunchyroll subs using english names was a good surprise. Larry voice is like I imagined.

As it turns out, Godzilla vs Evangelion wasn't an April Fool's gag. It is a real collaboration project for 2016, meant to promote both the upcoming Shin Godzilla film and the Evangelion franchise. For now there is no indication that it will anything more than a brand collaboration though. They are selling merchandising with the collaboration logos, and the key visual they put up on April 1st was drawn by Mahiro Maeda. There will be more guest illustrations of that sort to come, from various top creators in Japan.

While there's nothing to substantiate it, maybe there's a possibility that when Shin Godzilla opens in July, there will be a Godzilla vs Evangelion short attached to it?

Well, this is neat! Hope that something more than just merchandise comes out of it.

So Pan de Peace! is about a series about four girls loving bread a little too much?

Though nothing will ever beat the Shining Hearts anime in this regard.

I see good impressions over my hero academia but for the life of me I can't do with another underdog Shonen action.

Maybe that's why ushio and tora works so well for me.

Also lol at the pinky toe joint thing.

Really enjoyed this and the animation is great. The setting does feel like OPM.

As someone who isn't particularly a fan of superhero comics or battle shounen manga, One Punch Man and My Hero Academia don't have a whole lot of intrinsic appeal for me. Concrete Revolutio, on the other hand, does a bunch of interesting things in its visual style, its direction, its characters, its themes, its engagement with history, etc. that make it very interesting to watch.

Miss Hokusai

What a weird film. Not very long (85 minutes?) I was a bit perplexed how the story was being so slow to takeoff after the first scenes. Later as still felt unfocused, I understood this was going to be a SoL story, without a strong plot. But even accepting the genre as slice of life, this felt really directionless. Sometimes you had a scene about a
supernatural
activity, later another scene which doesn't have anything to do with the previous scene about the protagonist going to see a fire by night, and after that a third scene about her with her little sister, which also doesn't have anything to do with the two previous scenes. It was more a collection of vignettes which even felt lazy, just because you are doing a biopic (because the painter existed in real life) doesn't mean you shouldn't try to form a cohesive whole. Some of the scenes come because they try to tie in famous paintings scenes in the film and even if there is a pair of good moments on them, it still feels pretty flimsy.
The only hint of heart in the story is the rift between the father and the blind daughter, but it's a small part and it doesn't go anywhere interesting, even if I liked the naturality of their reactions.

I said it before, I think Concrete Revolutio is a boring show where most episodes felt like they had the same formula, except for the last 3 which had a coherent storyline. I just hope stuff makes more sense in S2.
So let's just leave it at that. xD

I liked the vignette nature of Miss Hokusai. It reminded me of my second-favorite Takahata film, My Neighbors the Yamadas, as well as Noriko Takao's Saint Young Men film. I don't think all films need to have a traditional dramatic structure imposed upon them. O-Ei and the characters surrounding her are given space to breathe and the Edo environment is thoughtfully portrayed. The story of her blind sister was pretty effective, and I don't know how you can say it doesn't go anywhere considering
her death
.

Perhaps this sort of thing isn't appealing to the typical moviegoer (certainly Yamadas was not appealing to the average Japanese moviegoer), but I am grateful to directors who aren't afraid to do something outside the norm like this.

And my Japan trip is going to be two months later, what a drag :(

That'd be pretty neat if it's the case though, not an Evangelion fan but I'll take anything that results in more Godzilla attacks.

It's not perfect. It's overly messy at times on almost all fronts however there is an energy to the work that makes it very exciting and easy to overlook those flaws. A mini example would be the song during the OP at the point where it shows Baku and Deku together in that the guitars overwhelm the vocals to the point where the main melody becomes messy. Other cases would be elements like when Deku found out he's quirkless in that instead of just letting the VAs do their thing, the background music is blaring a bit too much. However there is a chaotic aspect to the show that makes it dynamic such as the homeroom scene with everybody using their powers and Baku going berserk destroying things. It's emulating comic books through and through, which I enjoy.
This isn't the best looking show I will see this year but it is a lot of fun, largely due to the direction and character animation. There is a comic book feel throughout the episode through things like the introduction panels, the setting, and the character animation. Horikoshi's style can be felt throughout the episode through the sketchy and thick line art and really is the visual oomph that this show is missing on all other fronts. As you can tell, I'm not impressed with the art direction as a whole as the background work is mediocre at best. As for the audio, I'm not overly impressed with Hayashi so far but there are still some good tracks in here. On the VA side, Nobuhiko Okamoto was the stand out so far as he nailed how much of a shit Baku is. Very much reminiscent of his Accelerator days.
As for the OP and ED, I love the OP and somewhat dislike the ED. The ED on the visual side is just Deku running and that's mostly it. It's extremely boring. The music itself is also somewhat forgettable. BONES is usually better than that on the theme side. The OP is significantly better. I really liked the character intros where they used one frame and then two frames for parts of the title. Very snappy stuff. The OP is just well edited with many mini quick cuts tied to the drum beats such as Deku's notebook count. The All Might punch barrage scene was fucking fantastic and gives me a lot of hope for later action sequences. I've long been in a fan of Porno Graffiti, since the OG FMA days, so I liked the song a lot.

Awesome animation and really liked the childhood part, I think it was very well put. I decided not to read the manga for not spoiling the anime, let's see where it goes.

In other order of news, I decided to stop watching One Piece after this arc. I can suffer this pace no more and I find the art atrocious. Manga will be enough and will rewatch the best scenes when they arrive to the anime.

Excellent start. Seems like a mix between One Punch man, Tiger and Bunny, and typical generic high school shit.

Really like the main character. Awesome facial expressions.
