I'm gonna keep a close eye on impressions, but for now I think I'm gonna stop following Bungou. I just don't feel the same excitement for it as I do for all of my other shows. That "oooooh, new X episode is out today!" Factor just isn't there for me. I don't feel particularly attached to any of the characters. I really liked the episode 2 weeks ago, with the powerless detective, but that was it. All others were sort of just, meh.

They got 2-3 other honorable mention winners they've published the light novels for as well including Robot Heart Update.

Just saw RHU on their site when I was looking for Evergarden's synopsis. Robots powered by human emotions eh? I could see that getting adapted.

Sansha Sanyou 3

Was advised to give this until ep 4 before dropping it so here I am. Actually checked the credits because I had a feeling the episode was outsourced; sure enough, Studio Comet. They didn't do a bad job but it's a noticeable dip in a Dogakobo production, despite the cutlery fight sakuga. The show itself is still mildly amusing at best but some of the new maid character's off-beat jokes were good. What wonders must await in episode 4.

That was a pretty good episode. Lots of relationship development betwen Rokuro and Benio and we also got a peek at some more of the Heavenly Commanders besides Shimon.

Only 1 author manage to win grandprize. Damn, Kyoani award judges must be tough nut to crack. On the other hand, Chuunibyou, Musaigen, and Kyoukai no Kanata manage to win a honorable award, so i'm not really sure if the other participant is actually good or not. Ultimategax said he read some of the novel that got released, and he said it's not as good as regular novel, so yeah...

I think I said the writing wasn't as good as Sound! Euphonium, which I felt carried a good ensemble story through Takeda's writing. Akatsuki's writing in Violet Evergarden is leagues beyond the other KA Esuma titles I've read. It's definitely worth the Grand Prize. Interesting and written well. That's honestly what it takes.

I won't text dump, but I wrote more elsewhere if anyone's interested on my thoughts and debunking a lot of idiocy from the West regarding these results.

Did I miss talking about how terrible 3.33 is and how there is essentially zero chance Anno can make 3.0 + 1.0 a good movie, a good ending, a good sequel and somehow make 3.33 not a mess?

Was okay. After thinking the bomb plot ended up being disappointing and anticlimactic, they managed to surprise me with that twist, while I considered it, I didn't think they would be
so fast to rehash the plot of #03.

Judging by the preview, it's the female member of the agency will actually get her own time slot to shine too. Better than BBB confirmed.

Dribble! Shoot! High Five!-i laughed.
I don't remember any of these side-characters at all. Does Sunohara have an arc or is he just an asshole, comic relief guy that gets beaten up? TBF he must be a shounen hero in disguise, he can take quite a beating. Tomoya must be his friend out of pity or something.

Why hold a contest that no one can win?

What are the standards for light novels these days.

Someone did win it once, for Violet Evergarden as Ultimatemegax posted above. As to why KyoAni hasn't given anything but some encouragement awards the other years, I've been in piano competitions where the judges declined to hand out a Grand or First Prize because they didn't feel like any of the competing pianists were up to the appropriate standard. I imagine a similar sentiment guides the KyoAni judges.

He does get an arc, of sorts, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't show up until After Story.

LOL. Sunohara is there for comic relief early, but definitely has a couple arcs with really good character development later on.

Sunohara x Tomoyo would have been an excellent side romance if they had gone after it.

I don't idolize Anno like I'm sure some other people do but I really wish him and Studio Khara could just finish with the last Evangelion movie and get themselves out of the Eva vortex and make some new shit.

SAO is the only anime I've watched that I actively think is offensive, mysogynistic garbage. Like, harem fanservice shows arent my thing but I can appreciate that it's just soft core porn so whatever. But SAO is an actual show with plot and themes, and yet it just reduces all women into either people who can't get over not being able to bang Kirito or damsels in distress. SAO's only way it knows to put women in danger is by having them go through attempted rape, because hey, rape is a bad thing that happens to women right? And yet despite this it also uses tentacle imagery which, compared with the directing, kinda makes me feel like I'm supposed to find these rape scenes sexy, and that's gross.

There, I have whined about SAO on the Internet. Truly I am living the dream.

Granted, there are other anime I'd also call out as offensive, mysogynistic garbage but overall:

One day I'll manage to get to the offensive parts of SAO to see what's the fuss about.

But first I've to manage going through the first 3 episodes without falling asleep.

Anno and Khara oversaw and animated a bunch of shorts for Animator Expo; that's something new. (Even if it also had several obligatory Eva shorts.)

That's on the better part of SAO.

I was honestly surprised at how messy the first few episodes of SAO were. There's several time-skips, we barely see much of the better side characters, and the bad guy's explanation for why he trapped everybody in the game is
nothing. He literally says that he forgot why. Then he starts talking about castles. I'm glad I was spoiled on that going into the show. I probably would've been seething with rage had I watched that without knowing.

Yet all of that is still so much better than what goes on in the show's second half.

A reminder that Oban Star Racers has a character called Rick Thunderbolt. Like aahh, sounds like a character Arnie would play. Its awesome.

Good to know. Lol its a bit worrying that his character atm revolves around "I want to beat up that girl". Tomoyo learn those kicks from Chun Li?

I kind of agree with the GAFFer who linked to a blog post explaining how these things go, and how it makes sense for the contest to not have a winner. It's kind of rough since I think I'd hate it if I sent a game to some studio but then they declined to award the "you get published by us" award to anyone. But then again, their side of the deal costs a fair bit of money to get people's work published and/or adapted, and spending money on a story that they know/think won't work isn't the best course of action for a company that wants good profits and to avoid soiling their reputation with awful stuff.

But then again Phantom World actually happened, so...

What if Anno decides to continue making Godzilla movies and do nothing else? :p

Yeah, he changes his tune to the exact opposite soon enough, lol. Yeah, Chun Li, then the final assist/blow from Tomoya:

Didn't really care particularly much for Anno until I saw KareKano and that, too, was brilliant. Since then I'm among those wishing he'd just move on from Evangelion. Would be great if we can get another original series with him as the director.

Juuzu finally gets involved. Ren ends up with such a good friend and then Haru already has his Ikuyoshi so everyone has good friends in this series. I love it as well as how inquisitive Juuzu is about Ren and Haru. Both the scene in the nurse office and then when he finally visits their house, lol.

Car scene was sweet, Haru's voice is so good.

AH! What it must feel like to be alive having never seen Diabolik Lovers or its ilk.

(Not saying that SAO isn't misogynistic, but I've seen plenty of anime that are significantly worse in that regard. Anime in general has a problem with misogyny.)

You could always watch some of his live action work for more non-NGE Anno! I actually still need to watch those myself. I've heard mixed things about them though, especially with regards to Ritual (Shiki-Jitsu).

You can't wait but Anno sure can. He's doing Shin Godzilla first because he has writer's block on Eva! Lol.

The fact he went to do a quadrilogy or whatever of Evangelion movies without having first a general story layout of what he was going to tell in his mind is already pure /facepalm.

Speaking of live action work... You got Netflix? I see they got Avalon on there which was directed by Mamoru Oshii.

Well you can tell this was anime original material.

Are they implying Kunikida was the Azure King? He looks to have the same facial features.

I weep when I think of all the amazing shit we could have gotten from Tsurumaki over the last decade if it wasn't for Rebuild.

Sonya-chan is a bully and needs to be beaten by ninja chick. Pretty funny stuff, but protip: don't fuck with bears in the park, lol. Way to use your head chickie..

Yeah, this was an 'okay' episode, that was very obviously anime original content, dumb conclusion included.
It was however still worth it for Dazai and Kunikidas interactions in the café-scene towards the beginning and the hilarious moment where veryone got phone calls at the same time on the road.
And next episode looks pretty fun again (and non-original).

To be fair I think he did have an outline but then changed his mind while making 3.0 and they tried something different and it backfired. It kinda shows!

Just finish watching Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino and have to say, it pass my impression as I heard a lot of issue with this show. It isn't as great like the 1st season but for itself, it did fine. I guess, this is done to get my audience to watch this show which you notice as it isn't as depressive as the 1st season and it have a plot which you can follow and almost half of the show is more talking about the other side of the situation and found out more about them.

I won't go too detail as most people don't care now but for what it's, the show is actually not too bad. The story have enough interesting stuff to keep you interesting and you do found out more of few of the characters in the show which they don't talk much in the 1st season. Would recommend to people to give the show a try but try to get though the beginning as it's a bit tough to get into it.
