So basically if it were time travel the present Subaru would see the past Subaru.
World-line time travel doesn't prevent this from occurring, however what's happening in Re:Zero is more akin to All You Need is Kill. He's waking up at the same point every time he dies and it's always predestined that he dies at some point until he breaks the loop... somehow.

I don't know that I'm very fond of how Re:zero handles the passage of time. It's incredibly repetitive, and its method of rewriting the events that have happened makes many of the character bonds questionable. In what's presented as the most true timeline the main character has made very little impression on the people around him.

Worse still, I don't know that the second arc at the mansion really shows the time travel being used as a creative or interesting tool in order to overcome a specific challenge. Instead the ability to reset the main character has been primarily used to as gruesome an effect as possible. This is understandable with how the series tries to impart a great deal of weight into each death, but the process of coping with death has become so protracted that I feel as though I'm watching the same pointless magic trick being preformed over and over again. Re:Zero puts so much into its time travel gimmick, but it really doesn't feel like that much is gained from it. There is tons of guesswork asked of the viewer to know what has happened down each timeline, and it often just gets handwaved away.

Yeah your first paragraph is the biggest problem I had with the show. For a show that focuses on the bonds between characters, it is bad that the best interactions are rendered meaningless. At this point it's like they barely know him.

yeah i'm guessing the cafe is only run as a side project or something because yeah man hiding your shop ain't good for customers

So I know I'm a day late and maybe this was obvious to everyone, but

Concrete Revolutio 20

G.I. Joe versus Fred Jones from Scooby Doo?

Sgt Morrell's costume was too iconic to miss, and he was terrified of ghosts. Both series were introduced those years as well.

David Morrell wrote First Blood in 1972 too. Didn't pay attention to the name the first time around or I'd been certain instead of just speculating.

Re:Zero also needs to deliver on its promises of mofu.

It's like they just give you the first hit for free to get you hooked, then they replace it with some watered out junk.

WHERE MOFU?

Yeah, I was wondering about the name Jonathan Morrell. Only thing I thought of was Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell which made no sense.

I'd been trying to internally reconcile why a show about Showa era pop culture had all this American stuff in it (as I have zero idea if any of this penetrated Japan to any extent) but it might just be acknowledgment of the rest of the world at the time. Gen Urobuchi guest wrote this one though so someone more familiar with his creative influences (duckroll or jonjonaug spring to mind) might be able to fill us in.

The male gaze shots and general camera work are excessively leery, even for this genre. And that's even excluding all the boob grabs and accidental falls that would make Rito Yuuki raise an eyebrow. Last time I saw an anime this fixated on tits and ass without being explicitly ecchi trash is School Days, and School Days was doing that for a reason!

You can't even enjoy this show in the most primal way of ogling your preferred girl(s) because all the girls are just kinda whatever. At least IS had Char...

Oh and they introduced an idol girl and she has the same plot device powerup the MC and Emile have, what an interesting turn of eve-- zzzzzz

i was kinda hoping imouto wasn't
brocon and was just oblivious, but she was pretty cute when she got all pouty, so i guess it wasn't a total loss

this show has such a good supporting cast... although Ohta talks too fucking fast and his vocab is way too complex for me to follow

Well, we got some tournament arc about to start, and from what I have heard the show gets a lot better, but I'm a bit disappointed with the actual duels. So far, they are all almost all "I will now completely over extend by playing 5 of my 6 total cards to summon a single dude" or "I will now completely over extend by playing 5 of my 6 total cards to summon my entire hand" and yet no one ever gets punished for it. The single time a guy actually got punished for it, by sending all 5 of his face down spell/trap cards to the graveyard, it turns out they still work even in the Graveyard.

In Addition to that, the majority of duels only last like 3 or 4 turns total. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but I feel in the Original Yugioh games would usually have more turns played total, and are more interesting matches. I'm wondering if the change was made to reflect current state of the real game more. I'm also wishing they let the characters just use the cards banned in the real game. I get that Monster Reborn and Pot of Greed were actually OP and got banned, but they were staples! On the other hand, it sort of cool to see players being more explicit with the rules, even if some of the decks rely on Combos that are too hard to pull off. Except the main character, who seems to just be cheating left and right, inventing new mechanics mid match and adding cards to his extra deck (You can't do a Fusion Summon without the card in your Extra deck, your secondary characters even explicitly explained it, and I have no reason to believe you would put the Fusion Monster in your Extra deck if you didn't know you could summon it Yuya! STOP CHEATING!)

Also, the entire Action Duel thing feels sort of cheap, it allow characters to pull out even more arbitrary crap. I liked the stupidly situational cards far more than being able to run around like an idiot, pick up a card off the floor, and play it. I get it does add actual action to the show, but it's just cheap feeling. I'm hoping as the series progresses, they do more normal duels, so far there has only been 1.

But overall, it's entertaining. I'm hoping it gets better, but I'm skeptical.

I'm really intrigued by the premise. It reminds me of a Star Trek TNG episode where Data makes similar comment on humanity, pain and conflict. It's very interesting to see this put in practice but I would add that pain isn't exclusively physical but also ought to be at an emotional level which is something that empathy handles though. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I am in love with the artstyle and character designs.

You know the show tends to be the most ridiculous when they try to discuss/debate about something in a group, god knows where it can go.

Having random new cards suddenly appear in your extra deck when needed is a long running staple of the entire franchise, so it doesn't bother me too much. And yeah, action duels are kind of dumb. I think the manga version seems much better, where there are only 4 action cards in any given duel and you can only use one per turn

I take it you haven't seen the Moana clip they played at D23 2015. There is definitely going to be some real tough competition.

Unlikely to be any competition. Zootopia is about racism framed with cute bunnies and foxes, so everyone can happily accept it. Moana is just going to prove that real racism still exists and the audience, and voters at large, don't give a crap about actual minority cultures. Just like Princess and the Frog!

Prove me wrong!

Zootopia will destroy Moana at the Box Office, so therefore it will win Best Animated Feature. It has already been written in the history books.

Gundam SEED Destiny 50 (End)

Well, I'm glad that's over with. Well, I guess there's still the Stargazer OVA, but I think I heard that was good.

At least it was more entertaining than AGE.

Re: Zero makes Steins;Gate look like Primer.

And I say that as someone who loved Steins Gate and frustration aside is still enjoying Re Zero. I just hope they drop the constant fucking repetition and do some actual character relationship development.

The best time travel story I've seen recently is Quantum Break.
Shame the rest of the writing such as for characters was only ok, because the actual time travel aspect and the gameplay (if you play how the game is meant to be played and not like a cover shooter) is fairly fun.

Alright I've had a good amount of fun watching this. The characters are kind of silly and I assume they represent an extreme facet of a person but a lot of comical moments followed when juxtaposed with each other. As for its noble narrative goal of eliminating conflict with Kiznaiver system, I'm not sure where it's heading yet but I'm sticking around.

Animation is nice, though designs are kinda generic.
Characters were voiced/acted kinda weird-- very unlike reality (all anime is acted in an unrealistic way, this is just a different unrealistic way). It was nice however for character reactions to not be totally over-the-top.
Not really into it so far, but I'll give it another couple of episodes.

dunno if you'll ever get any voicing/actions close to reality in anime. I can't think of any off the top of my head. The most you'll get is less insane, but the overacting/dramatic reaction stuff/acting like they're in a manga/drama/anime is... part and parcel, I think.

also, reality sucks, and is bad.

Well, I think you can ultimately show only so much of a person in a constrained(whether it is time, skill or the medium itself) piece of work and if what you show isn't interesting(i.e.won't get audience attention) enough, it's probably not going to make it on the work.

Audience is a broad term here, whether it is the casual audience or the more critical crowd.

Kiznaiver Episode 7

So this is probably one of the best episodes of the season. It is fantastic.

Also my man Tenga is finally gonna get some focus!

It's about time that I wander into here and fulfill my seasonal ritual, of asking what shows do people recommend?

Just in general. I have no strong preferences, just a rundown on what's been well-received would be nice.

Kiznaiver. Maybe Luluco and Re:Zero too.

Flying Witch and Tanaka-kun seems to be the go-to slice of life anime this season.

So good, favorite episode so far. Looked stunning, nature/lighting looked amazing and the level of detail in the restaurant was very impressive. Kei-troll continues to be best character.

12-Sai 7

A relationship with 2 tsunderes actually works somehow.

Was neat. The runing time of 12 minutes doesn't allow the story to spread it's wings too much but it utilizes what it has effectively to tell it's little tale. It generally feels very much like the earlier, unrestrained Yuasa, with his specific brand of humour, so more like Mind Game/Kemonozume than TG/Ping-Pong. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a homage to Tiger Mask but with some elements, with what little I remember from Tm, being very reminiscent of it, that's definitely how I took it.

Oh it's only on rewatch that I caught how themasochism porn mag transformed itself into a wrestling mag.
