Kawajiri storyboards tons of stuff every year. In the past year alone he has done storyboards for Ace of Diamond, Overlord, Rokka, One Punch Man, and Garo Crimson Moon. Not that anyone would really be able to tell because he doesn't really have a distinctive storyboarding style these days. Unless he's directing something himself he seems to just conform to the bare requirements of the project to give it what it needs. Feels more like he's a reliable workman these days doing fills for productions which need an extra hand on storyboarding more than anything else.

Speaking of Action Setpieces, what's a good space warship thing to watch with Action Setpieces? Preferably with less Giant Robots. I love a good space battle.

Hell, even in Western media I guess. That's the best part about Star Wars. Fuck your lightsabres, it's all about taking down capital ships with snubfighters.

Yamato 2199 Episode 20? Probably the best one in a long time. :p

me too, I saw the first episode but didn't feel like listening to Bosch do his regular voice in the dub. I might try watching it again in japanese.

I feel that Code Geass, especially in R2, had the best Bosch performance I could ever get. It was freaking neat to hear him with a booming voice.

Kawajiri is getting on in the years, at this point. Most of his own projects have failed to get off the ground, but he's still been doing work on other Madhouse productions relatively recently - he did some storyboard work on One Punch Man, for example. Wouldn't really expect to see him outright direct anything at this point, though - to this day, he's only helmed one TV show, and that's basically where the industry is these days.
Ah, so. Interesting and sad at the same time, a terrible shame really. His films always seemed to have a certain grit I appreciated...
Pretty cool him working on One Punch Man. Now that's a series I was absolutely determined to hate no matter what because just based on the concept alone, at least on paper, that character should be a totally uninteresting dud! A guy so powerful, what could go wrong? But it's a little deeper than that I guess for this action type. I've never been more surprised or pleased to be wrong about an anime before, seriously, the manga must be pretty good.

See...I almost find that a little depressing. It's almost like the "Man" has him down, a sign of the times I suppose.
Edit: I've got this feeling that, perhaps one of his projects could see the light of day if OVAs somehow regained their popularity...feels like he'll never get another film or tv series off the ground. But a ballsy, edgy OVA story from him might be something...

Speaking of Code Goose, was that spinoff movie series any good?

It's very different. Don't expect the same positives or negatives. Great 3D mecha action is the highlight. The ending's arguably weaker than it should be in some areas, but it's not too bad as a complete package. Decent enough for my money.

JYB is good, though it's going to be a little weird to hear him in both Gundam IBO and Thunderbolt.

I don't understand the whole tomato thing. I guess the show really got to him. Lol.

Without spoiling anything, it's actually a reference to The Big O.

might i recommend AnimeGAF's anime of the year 2013: Space battleship Yamato 2199 to fit your needs. it has exactly what your looking for.

Kuromukuro - Episode 8

Pretty standard episode, but I had fun. Sorta glad the two dumbasses aren't dead, but that punch was good. He deserved that shit. The streaming guy should get punched ten times, but I guess his parents don't give a fuck about him, which explains how he turned out the way he did. The reveal at the end though... interesting. I wonder if "he" is a rouge faction within the space human empire or if he's just a lone agent working against them now.

Yutaka Yamamoto on hiatus.

Well good news for me as I can axe him off potential directors for FMP.

Real classy celebrating someone's health problems bro.

Well, the big thing he'd been trying to get off the ground for a few years was a new Ninja Scroll sequel OAV, which would seem like an absolutely no-brainer from a Western point of view, but he was a wee bit too late for the US market to be throwing crazy money around, and a few years too early for Kickstarter to be a thing. Kawajiri's original works are the kind of things which would only likely get made on Western money these days as well, particularly after Madhouse probably took a pounding on Redline.

Oh, as a WUG fanboy, that's actually kind of a bummer. I'm not the biggest fan of Fractale, but Yamakans recent works have all that this weird tone sitting between being gross commercialisation themselves, and the criticism of industries and fandoms that promote and consume such things. They inevitably end up undermining themselves massively because of that, but there's normally at least something interesting there as a result.

Crazy first week performance of Girls und Panzer.
179k copies sold. Already on par with the Madoka total sales.

OVA and main series should also get another sales boost.

So just a quick question.

RightStuf, they always like really effing slow to ship out? Been between 6-10 days before I've gotten tracking info usually but now it's been 2 weeks.
Yes I've ordered like 10 items per time but that shouldn't be such a hassle.

Wait until you see rugball.
I just saw that arc last night. So gooooood.

GirlPan got really good at CG, too, especially blending it with the anime elements. I remember that first tank battle in GuP and being utterly horrified at how bad it looked. It still looks alien compared to the more usual style, to be sure, but it no longer looks bad
Not only that but...

Yes, the movie blends CG and 2D together nearly seamlessly, and takes full advantage of that with ambitious camera movements.
Exactly! One of the relatively rare situations I feel CG makes a case for itself outside production restrictions.

I still don't know what else is on The List. It has to be pretty infamous, I'm guessing.
The list is always available for people to see!

Yamato 2199 is the closest that springs to mind.

Echizen the best.

I wish this show was focused on her and Mayano because they are the best. Class rep can show up too

Isn't he working on the Vampire Hunter D TV series no one talks about? ANN interview made it sound like he's heavily involved but heck if I know his actual role.

US is coming off what's typically a 3-4 day weekend for everyone so I couldn't be surprised if that affected things.

Seisen Cerberus ep.9

At least he got his tank back up and alive again after
he destroyed
him last week. A rare moment when Saraato actually showed some emotion and acted more like a human for once. There is only a few episodes left and they have a lot of questions remaining, so it should be interesting to see if they can at least start explaining more of what is going on and close this out in 4 episodes...

Seikon no Qwaser ep.6
There is something so wrong with this show that I just can't put my finger on it.... Yeah, it's trash; pure, unfiltered, unadulterated, trash, lol. And now it get all rapey and $hit on top of that? ugghh... I'm not sure if I can even stomach 1 a week for you guys' entertainment, this show isn't even "fun/funny" trash; it's just trash, lol.

Depends on the speed you chose.

If you live farther away and used free shipping (media mail) you are pretty much at the whims of USPS. And if you order something with like 10 items in it, if even one of those wasn't in stock, chances are they'll wait till everything is there to ship out only 1 package containing everything in it, especially if you used free shipping.

Otherwise, if everything you bought is in stock, it usually always ships the next business day regardless of shipping speed. Their customer service is fantastic though. Give them a call if you want answers immediately, e-mail them if you want a response within the next day or so.

The only time i've had to wait for stuff was when I bundled in-stock things with pre-orders (like my Soredemo BD (in-stock) I bundled with my Yurikuma BD (comes out in a couple of weeks)). They won't usually ship the partial orders right away.

For a momen, I thoughtthis was about amazon.

But holidays might have caused that. One of my orders recently was shipped the next day, which is nice. I don't get that kind of benefit from amazon

Welp. So miss class rep drill ojou now needs be 'vaccinated' by the MC as well? That whole variant thing's so convenient...
Did the scene include saliva trails like with Emileia?

I was wholly expecting it, but no....

Why must they make it so weird LOL. "Something warm entering my body", from where people?! These lines man. Hundred really does seem like some top tier trash.

She needed a virus injection for a powerup.

All I could think of is the Godou x Erika "divine protection injection" scene when I say that, lol. Episode 12 around the 15 min mark, lol. hilarious scene..

Wow. Great animation, eerie atmosphere, breathtaking action and a pretty cool twist that gave a new perspective to the heroine. The episode was all around amazing. Maybe it's actually a great show and everyone who says otherwise is part of an elaborate joke?! Probably not, but still this was really, really good.

Just got back from playing. It is addictive but I never gave up sleep over it (never do give up sleep for anything actually).

I found a copy of Kizumonogatari novel in Amazon, was amazed it was available here and on discount, grabbed it. I was planning on watching the movies once all of them release.

I find that these days I just don't have the willpower to play games for too long too often. I can do a 4hr session no problem, but that's only once in a blue moon. The way I play OW is basically one loot box a day lol. To some that may seem like very little (4 matches or so?) but it's enough to keep me satisfied and keep me wanting for more every day.

The same can be said about anime ^ When I was younger I could devour shows. Now I just stick to whatever is on that season, and I try to keep that shit tamed too. The moment I go over 8 shows per season, there better be a good reason for it.

Pretty much the same with me albeit I am playing for less than 2 hours max, as my friend says, I'm getting "old". I can probably marathon anime but I'm just not watching much these days.

Hmm, the 2nd half was really not well directed, especially the part where Mitsumune find Masaki's ribbon then meeting Valkana. Can't make sense of the setting. Other than that, i wish they did more with Hayato (yandere dude) past instead of exposition.
I'll be laughing my ass off if Mitsumune is actually Tokimune pretending to be Mitsumune since he probably caused Mitsumune to fall off.

Valkana still can't remember Hyouketsu name (lol)

On your first point, I'm not sure if it was mentioned in the show or in the shorts, but Subaru definitely said sometime that he used to work out a lot (I forgot the reason though).

He's supposed to be fairly fit. I want to say that part of his background is just working out in his room all the time. I did not really consider what he did to be particularly over the top, and it sort of sets up that this is an enemy more dangerous because of their numbers.

See, he might be fit or whatever but only by the standards of our world. I'm going to assume that to match super powered monsters or lightning quick humans you should need to be more than that.

On your sidenote: They had a conversation about the village in the first loop (that included the dog) and the bite marks that were gone made Subaru realize he died in his sleep.

Okay that does help a bit, will have to recheck the scene.

The transition is somewhat quick, but it's sort of the expected outcome given the situation of her fending off the attack during the retreat. How much of the blood belongs to the dogs is also open to interpretation. I don't know that I would call it "severe".

Fine. Severe is saying too much. But she clearly got hurt. There is a very poorly implied passage of time and for Rem, of fighting that made that whole scene very jarring to my eyes.
Really it's sort of the entire point of the episode though. Rem sees a side of Subaru she thinks is worth protecting, a pretty big change given her role in some of the past loops. Subaru acting selflessly to help Rem does not necessarily come as a surprise to viewers, but for Rem it overturns the assumption that Subaru might turn on the sisters if he knew what they really were, which is the real driving force behind the situation he is caught in.

Having a character warm up to the MC because of his selflessness/ acceptance of defects of the aforementioned character is such downtrodden path for character arcs that I can't find myself caring very much for it here. Especially when I feel the execution of it is borked.

I must say that I'm surprised to see you, of all people, defending this show and (I'm going to assume) liking it to an extent.

----------------

Definitely. And no, I have no idea what the ED is hinting. I guess I'll find out!

The joke is, you'll find that out only in the last 5 minutes of the show or so. :p

So... Not to derail a little, and I should probably just stay in the drunk thread, but where's that Yoshiaki Kawajiri chap these days? Thought I heard some garbo about him retiring but I refused to believe it. All I've got are his "classics" that I sorta revel in lol. I keep hoping for a few solid remasteres or collections.
Speaking of which, there really should be a Slayers bluray collection in NA by now, what gives?
Just keeping tabs at Anime news network and I saw some updates for Battle Angel live action and it almost sounds promising, like I could watch it without the guilt lol.

[stealth shill mode on]He storyboarded the last episode of Shigurui, you should check that out. [stealth shill mode off]

I turned 22 this weekend, and I feel "old" too lol believe it or not. I have friends that play for hours and dont understand my way of gaming.

I like to quote Colin Moriarty from Kinda Funny on the matter. I'm old enough to know I love this stuff. I have nothing to prove by indulging when I don't feel the need to. There is no need to be "up a game/show's ass". There's so many other things to do and see that you are doing yourself a disservice sticking to only those 2 or 3 things on your free time!
