In a world where AV also means audio video let's just make it clear and call it porn lol I was like "well of course she works in the audio and video industry"
In a world where football where is actually kicking the ball but somewhere it got turned into throwing a ball with their hands.

As someone who just recently go into anime it feels overwhelming trying to keep up with everything.

I want to watch all the great shows from the past, but I also want to keep up with what's current.

So much to watch but so little time.

Welcome to the fun. Now, what kind of stuff do you want to watch? Sci-fi, mecha, Mystery, Romance, Drama, Adventure, Battle Shonen stuff? Just give us an idea what your looking for and we can give you some good recommendations within that genre.

If you're just getting into anime there's way more old stuff out there that's worth checking out than the number of good shows coming out per season. Just go watch old stuff for a while, the newer stuff will still be there when you get back and you won't have to worry about a show turning to shit halfway through.

Speaking of new anime, time to look over some old ones with Winter 2016 opinions. I don't think I've ever started so many shows in one season only to drop them before, other than Rakugo it's been kind of a big disappointment.

Completed
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju: A strong AOTY contender. Very good direction despite the occasionally limited animation. Excellent plot, style, characters, and voice acting. 9/10
Osomatsu-san (continued from last season): A comedy anime that tried to be everything it could think of and succeeded at pretty much all of it. Going in I was thinking "oh god six characters that all look the same, how am I going to keep track", but all of the -matsu brothers and the rest of the cast for that matter were extremely memorable. Art style and faces were top notch. 9/10
Galko-chan: A funny show with decently compelling characters marred by poor direction and a low amount of content (the OP taking up a ridiculous amount of time from the episodes where it's used doesn't help with that). 7/10
Schwarzesmarken: Maybe it's because I went in with very low expectations after Total Eclipse, but I rather enjoyed this series. While it was obvious there was some adaptation decay (rushed pacing in places, sparsely detailed characters that feel like they should have more dimensions), it had robots fighting aliens and other robots, commies, rebellions, and best girl of the season. And god DAMN are some of those robot designs fine as hell. 7/10
Ojisan to Marshmallow: It had like, three jokes. But they were decent enough jokes and at three and a half minutes per episode I was never made to feel like my time was wasted. 6/10

Dropped
Dagashi Kashi: A pretty good show with decent humor, characters, and style. But I kinda fell off the wagon for this one around halfway through, and with every subtitle option being kinda bad (the official subs are bad and the fansubs are memesubs) and the show itself merely being "pretty good" at best, I didn't feel much of a reason to go back to it. Hopefully the BD release subs aren't as bad. 7/10
Sekkou Boys: Another decent show, but I fell off the wagon halfway through. I've got no problems with CR's release of the show, but there really wasn't enough here to rekindle my interest in it. 6/10
Girls Beyond the Wasteland: One of the strongest starts to the season, but the middle of the show was a massive disappointment so I stopped watching halfway through. The occasional excellent and surreal Romeo Tanaka humor was waylaid by a feeling of "quick we gotta get all the drama from the common route into the series before it ends". From what I hear the game was similarly disappointing in the end after a strong start as well. 6/10
HaruChika: I appreciated what it was going for, enjoyed it more than Kyoani's similar efforts, and rewatching the first few episodes with non-shit subs increased my liking for it. But I just wasn't in the mood to watch this kind of show. Maybe I'll pick it up again someday, but more likely I'll forget it exists entirely. Dropped it after episode 3 or 4 or so. 6/10
Dimension W: Pretty good style, but the plot and characters seemed very "baby's first seinen" to me. Not much I haven't seen before, and nothing was there to really pull me in so I dropped it after one or two episodes. 6/10
ERASED: Dropped this after one episode. Everything was obviously a rushed and poorly scripted (if very pretty and well animated) adaptation. The first episode is full of internal monologue, jumping from one character and concept to the next so fast that none of it has any time to sink in. The whole "Japanese mystery" aspect made me wary too, and from reactions that I've been reading to the ending it sounds like I was right to jump off. I've read that it does the whole "nostalgia for childhood" thing pretty well, but I'm not a big fan of those kinds of stories to begin with. 5/10
Grimgar: I think I stuck around for three or four episodes before dropping this one. The backgrounds are really pretty and I can appreciate going for a slower paced, more serious approach to the whole "shifted to an RPG world" concept. But there were only two actual "real" characters, the death flagging got so obvious as to be gut-bustingly hilarious, and the director had an uncomfortable obsession with the butts of teenage anime girls. 4/10
Phantom World: Ahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha. Dropped after less than one episode. 3/10

On hold I guess
Active Raid: I kinda wanna go back to this one. A decently fun sentai-ish show from the director of Code Geass and the writer of Akibaranger. I might finish up season one over the weekend or something. 7/10 for now

Outside of the last few episodes, its pretty much just fluff filler episodes for the entire run.
I'd put it lower than Amagi Brilliant park, but above chunni season 2.
I don't say that it's excellent or that it does everything right, I agree with your complaint, but it seems like it ended up as irredeemable trash for a lot of people.

Honestly, it's probably below Chuuni 2. This coming from the guy who tried to force it down everyone's throat the first three episodes. It was still probably above most things last season - barring Rakugo, Grimgar, the shorts, and maybe Erased? I still haven't come to terms with that last one ending so far from the manga - not that the manga ending was anything especially impressive. I stand by my claim that Episode 2 of Erased is one of the single greatest episodes of anime ever made.

Unrelated though, Grimgar was seriously fantastic. The character and party growth is particularly well-done and the story had me more invested than I've ever been in the "stuck in a game world" genre than I've ever been. Even made me start Log Horizon despite swearing off of it.

Yeah I get that. I was just trying to imply that it won't get the second wind of likability that amagi brilliant park got.

Phantom World got me excited for future Kyoani stuff though, assuming they try something with a little action in the future.

Now that I am hooked on Joker Game, that like 5 shows I am following this season, plus a short series lol. Some trimming are in order after this week I think.

It's kind of sad to see that this show is over. It's kind of nice having an anime where the family dynamics are in place.

Joker Game: 1
Ooh, imperial Japan setting. But the spy agency the show covers has none of the nationalism and more of the pragmatism of realpolitik. That conversation around the card game was very interesting in that regard.
I also really have to commend that cliffhanger ending where the plot of three competing interests come together and in the end it is Sakuma who gets played.

on the subject of traditional animation, look what i grabbed from the kyoani store

i wonder if they'll have new merch out after the Sound Eupho recap movie hits

I got 2 (on the way), 5 (on the way), 6, and 7 of the genga collections. Gonna figure out a way to get the rest.
How much does something like that roughly cost?
2k-2.5k yen I think.
Oh man, those look gorgeous.
You should see some of the stuff from collection 7 with the instruments in them.

Wanted to get on Berserk train before the new anime starts, but it doesn't look like it's available on any of the streaming sites :/

Also, BIG THANKS to MikeHattsu for helping me fill the void in my life that Voyager Entertainment left.
I offered to pay up if he could find the remaining volumes of this fantastic show for me, and he did :)

Feels good to have that closure on buying this series in its entirety finally.

It's really impressive stuff! I'm glad I have the ones that I do. Probably one of the first shows i've ever bought them for, too.

Joker's game ep 1
I like it. A guy and his honors and patriotism vs the real world pragmatism in the spy business. The ending part got intense since he got played out like a sucker.

I was surprised they came so quick. Found a package lying on my bed when I got home from work a couple hours ago and knew it was these. The Eupho genga collections are still on the way.
Find time to finish up those reviews you big geek
I knoooooow :\

I took some time off in May and June, so hopefully then.

100% guaranteed before S2 at the very latest.

Just read the manga while you wait dude.

It's way better anyhow.
I actually have the first 10 volumes of it already (got them as a gift) so I'll go ahead and do that. It's a shame cos I prefer things animated, but ah well.

Just one movie on netflix, or at least thats how it was when I tried to sample it last year.
Yeah it's still the same. I googled it and it looks like the license for it expired and no-one's bothered picking it up again.

My sister and I agreed that I would pick a harem show for her to watch, and she would pick a reverse-harem show for me to watch. We thought it would be fun. It was a terrible mistake.

Knowing there is a vast array of shitty harem shows I could have thrown at her, I had mercy and chose Absolute Duo. Mercy is not in her vocabulary. I had to watch Diabolik Lovers. In one sitting.

It was the most disgusting and off-putting show I've ever seen. Not because it's a reverse-harem, but because it's about a half dozen or so vampires mercilessly physically and mentally abusing a dumb, helpless girl. That's ALL it is about. That's almost literally all that is contained in this anime. Most of the episodes go like this: The stupid girl wanders into a room, one of the vampires drowns/chokes/etc. her while calling her livestock/bitch-chan/etc., then she wanders into another room for another of the vampires to degrade her, and then it all happens AGAIN to top off the episode.

I kept expecting one of the vampires to show some remorse for how they treat her, or try to fight their bloodlust, but no. All of the male characters have identical personalities: egotistical, sadistic, 2cool4school, possessive dickbags without a speck of humanity. There is no character development, nor is there even a hint of a plot until the last few episodes. It's a continuous barrage of rape scenes, essentially. My mood never changed from a mixture of annoyance, disgust, and frustration. Keep this garbage in the hentai section. Don't try to pretend it has any value whatsoever besides spank material for people with an S&M fetish.

Diabolik Lovers is, forget anime, one of the most disgusting things to come from motion picture technology I've ever seen. Fuck this shit, fuck the visual novel it's based on, fuck whatever studio made this, fuck my sister for making me watch it, and fuck you. fuck

That was great. Bakugo voice actor really fit the character. Douchebag incarnate.
I wonder if there's batman or ironman like heroes in their universe
Op was eh, but the ED animation and song is great.

I apologize. fuck

I'll have to screen it first, because the reviews I'm reading of Green Green make it sound incredible. Half-assed, cliche sex scene setups paying off with... nothing, because it's an anime. The characters must truly be on a whole new level of aggravating to make the anime earn such low scores.

Awww, yeah! Another one going to watch Green Green! This will be great. We had a few of those in the last weeks. All had a very special experience with it.

you know the real fucked up part:
it got a sequel and a BD release and an English dub...

yeah...

The biggest issue with Green Green isnt the main cast or the main plot(which are still sub-par) its the horrible and offensively juvenile side characters that get 80% of the screen time.

that and bear rape.

and a ova sequel episode that is special...

Yeah, but that family gang-rape show is pretty damn bad; it's 1 of 2 shows I've dropped after 1 episode.. complete fettish garbage..

holy fucking shit was green green literally made by 13 year olds? I refuse to believe this show was written by adults, and the art is at best Deviantart tier.
