Spring Anime 2016 |OT| Get a Season So Complicated

Not open for further replies.
Hey guys sell me on Re:Zero.

A real life buddy has been telling me to watch it, so now I'm curious what it is, and it seems to be fairly popular around here!

It has a lot of suffering and respawning. It's the Dark Souls of Anime™

It's pretty good and you have a decent amount of content to go through.

I'm trying to finish up the text and images for the summer preview thread, but I could use a little boost. Can you guys help me out by providing a 1 liner for each of the below that answers:

"Why should someone be interested and watch "xxxx" show?"

Manga GAF only gave me a couple answers, so above all else, I'm looking to fill in some of the blanks for some the top survey scorers that TUSR did last week

Shows needed:

  • Food Wars! (Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara)
  • Berserk (2016)
  • Mob Psycho 100:
  • ReLife:
  • ReWrite:
  • Handa-kun
  • 91 Days:
  • Tales of Zestiria the X:
  • D.Gray-man HALLOW
  • Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Mirai Hen
  • Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Zetsubou Hen

Mob Psycho 100 is the same plot as One Punch Man and by the same author. So I guess people should check that out if they liked OPM?

This. It has good animation, interesting characters, and a gimmick that's being used in meaningful ways.

Episode 1A might make you think you'll be watching Yet Another Isekai RPG™, but it becomes apparent that isn't be the case pretty soon.

Dark Souls of Anime - okay then

hahahaha what a claim

Actually in all seriousness that does pique my interest. (Well, more the preceding sentence in that context.)

Is it... another trapped in a game/fantasy-world anime? I'm not against that (I love Log Horizon and Konosuba and even to an extent Grimgar), but it doesn't exactly sound... unique.

Great characters, great character interactions, interesting plot, fear, death, despair, hope, Puck...

I can't show you much more because it would spoil things for you , but yeah. It's been a really entertaining story full of pain, misery, comedy and fun. There is always a backdrop of despair, that should really come out during the second cour airing this summer. You should really experience it, just do not judge it on the first 40 min episode.... Keep watching...

It's 'transported to a fantasy world', but don't let that put you off.
It's also a 'real fantasy world' and does not feature any gamey systems at all and even has good worldbuilding.

Not really. Mob Psycho is pretty different. It's also better than OPM (as much as I like OPM).

In a world where people are _blank_, one character is the most powerful _blank_ despite others not taking him seriously.

They go to different places but there is no way the initial reaction will be anything other than "oh, this is OPM again."

In all seriousness now, the show isn't about how he is trapped. The show is about the perils he goes through via (unwillingly obviously) trial and error. Hence why I half joked about it being dark souls. You see him die in horrible ways and fearing/learning from death. The way the show does it is that whenever it happens, the events, although familiar, are different bringing in more knowledge for him to use and eventually resolve whatever problem he is dealing with. He isn't a genius mastermind, he is just an average guy playing with the hand he is dealt. His positivism and love for people are what drive him forward.

From what I hear, we haven't seen the worst yet. Subaru is apparently going to go through much worse than he has already, and believe me when I say he has seen some shit already.

So if I didn't care much for and dropped OPM pretty quickly, then I shouldn't bother with this one then?

Depends why you dropped OPM. The humour is the same (and if argue worse), and the gimmick is identical but there's a greater focus on character interaction.

But if you didn't like OPM I wouldn't say go out of your way to give it a chance.

Holy crap, I LOL'd hard at this gif.... Looks like Subaru is getting ready for an E3 viewing party...

Got you, I'll probably just let it go. You could tell the art style was the same and the humor/gimmick of OPM didn't do much for me, so...

This means Mob Psycho 100 is like the instant AOTY winner automatically then.... With JoJo second and MHA will probably win third despite so many hard critics.... Many Eupho has a shot when it drops in the fall...

Hopefully people will be able to recognize the difference between the mediocre adaptation of One Punch Man and the highly creative adaptation of Mob Psycho 100.

ALLOFF doing the Mob Psycho ED makes it a must watch. I cant wait to see and hear their song, as all their songs even the ones not used for anisongs are awesome. Outside of One More Chance, my favorite songs from them werent used as music :(

You're still wrong.

Nah, Mob Psycho is not really about the action.
It's more about character growth. It also has better comedy by default, since it has Reigen.

Did you even look at a Mob Psycho artwork or preview?

Mob Psycho is totally different from OPM. Thats such a shitty comparison.

All right, you've sold me! I'll give it a shot!

...Eventually, anyway.

OPM was a mediocre adaption now? Now I've heard it all.

The argument basically seems to boil down to OPM being a by the numbers adaptation - technically competent, but artistically not all that interesting.

I disagree, but hey, what're you gonna do.

Regardless, Mob is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better story than OPM, so the anime should be superior in every way.

Wow people here really love Mob. I mean good on them but I found it mostly just kind of alright.

Still standby saying people are gonna write it off as a OPM repeat pretty swiftly though.

I would like to learn why though.

This comparison shot says it all, I think:

A city background in OPM vs. MP100

The gap between a bare competency and a true striving for excellence seen here is mirrored in every other facet of the two productions that I've seen. One Punch Man had some great animators work very hard for its action scenes, but that's about all it has going for it. Of course, Mob Psycho 100 has not had its first episode air yet, so it's possible that all the trailers and production material released will end up being deceptive, but I consider that highly unlikely.

The OPM adaptation did quite well in attracting good animator talent and doing action well. The direction was comparatively weak and perhaps too much focus was given to the action.

Not sure if I would make this assessment before actually seeing mob psycho though.

Aside from comparing a finished anime with one that hasn't aired yet, it kind of feels like you're asking that OPM provided something that it never promised. I mean, sure the art in that Mob screenshot looks better stylistically but the art in the manga is utter shit, it's no suprise they're taking liberties, whereas OPM was based on the updated manga with good art.

My biggest question is why your going out of your way to throw what you described as a competent adaptation under the bus (well, the first time at least. This post was obviously a response to a request).

Oh yes, I remember you or someone else pointed this out when the PV for Mob Psycho 100 released. It makes sense, I don't particularly have a keen eye for such things but I do find such details interesting and is something I wish I was better at identifying.

I still fail to see how it's completely different to any similar show, so far. There's the same dose of humor and despair. Episode 1A isn't that much different to the usual vibe the show gives, other than the fact it lacks the serious elements of it. Maybe people expected a Konosuba v2 or something, but it has plenty of moments that it advances its plot through comedy rather than drama.

That said, it's still very good. Really nice characters, good action and both the premise and the plot are interesting. Certainly one of the better shows this season.
And there are cute twins in it.

Can't help you as most anime on the list are show that is recent. Only watching older anime now as current anime isn't for me or not interest me much.

I can add one

"Why should someone be interested and watch "Food Wars! (Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara)" show?"
The creator original work is into Hentai manga which I heard is interesting. If you like his hentai stuff, you might like this.

BRUH, PLEASE...

12-sai - 01

If that's supposed to be among the best of shoujo romance offerings in recent times then that genre must have had quite the dry period. I might like it if I were the target audience but I don't see much in an averagely directed shoujo romance for young teens. Pretty damn ugly character design too.

SUPER LOVERS Episode 10 – Summer Storm (END)

Well this was a good episode. Didnt comment last week because it was probably not appropriate to discuss here.
CkhbK3AUoAAU7O8.jpg

The emotional backstory to Ren and him finding out his origin really got to me. Im glad the Kaidous took him. Cant believe his birth mom sold him away for drugs in Seattle.

cant wait for next season, I need more of Aki, Shima, Ikuyoshi, Haru, Ren, Haruko and everyone else.

I can't. This is way too funny. Plot twist got thrown in, Mitsumune suddenly go back to the real world, the true form of Nanaki, Yotsun still alive (seriously, nobody died), Dahara run out of fuck to give. I must watch how this end!

i got chu fam

Food Wars! (Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara)
I never finished the anime and I'm really behind on the manga but its still more food porn

Berserk (2016)
The dark souls of anime

Mob Psycho 100:
the good One series

ReLife:
I don't know what this is

ReWrite:
Is this related to the last thing

Handa-kun
tbh i'm just going to pretend this is called honda-kun and is about the SF characters life after not being included in SFV

91 Days:
Wasn't this a zombie film

Tales of Zestiria the X:
Doesn't have a trash equipement/skill system so is probably better than the game

D.Gray-man HALLOW
probably better than trying to read the manga which became a mess after a point.

Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Mirai Hen
I don't know, I guess the games are cool?

Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Zetsubou Hen
Why are there 2

Not much point in recommending people Danganronpa 3 Future/Despair or Soma S2 since those are direct continuations

Edit: I don't think anyone claimed the DR3 OT, so I'll try my hand at that. Soma already has an OT.

I'm gonna hop in and just note that I don't like One Punch Man at all (either)! And it's nothing related to its adaptation - I'm not qualified to talk about that since I haven't read the source material. I just think it's boring. It has... maybe a handful of good gags and a few instances of crazy beautiful animation and that's about it. The premise is good enough for a short but not a full TV series, and it overstays its welcome fast.

Mayoiga 10

The series has been pretty good about keeping the plot twists plausible but the last one... well, it didn't really break continuity but it's really dumb.
If Yotsun's body floating down the river wasn't a hallucination, then Mitsumune just happened to catch it and the dude accidentally found the exit? Lame.

As bad horror series go, it's ok. People not actually dieing is pretty disappointing though. It's a step down from something like Another where people die in hilariously over-the-top fashion. I do like the backstories in Lost Village though, but the gimmick of 80% of the cast being OCD, one-track minds does eventually wear thin. Probably that episode where half of it is the cast running from topic to topic in a cabin without break kinda broke me on it. Do something, man.
