Square Enix CV something something FFXIV for 360

When it causes delays and gimps the game?

Honestly, lack of exclusivity should be near the bottom of the "Square doesn't care about its fans" list. There's a ton of other reasons to hate them before even mentioning platform.

:lol

I can't believe you guys found those posts serious.

Uhh, the development team has already confirmed multiple times that a 360 version is in development. They've also said that they're finding it challenging to find an agreement with Microsoft, I assume because of the cross-platform connectivity and the lack of Xbox-Live support. It'll probably hold up a release until early 2011 at the earliest, and it's specifically why Tretton said that PS3 will be the only console to play FFXIV "when it launches in 2010."
Eh? I wouldn't go that far - it was just an announcement based on the project's current status at the time. Anything could have happened between then and now. I'm guessing FFXIV is gonna be one of those "360 toumeika" ads in Japan. Possibly announced at the FFXI Anniversary Party? Christ, can't believe it's been EIGHT YEARS!

I did some research since I wasn't a console RPG gamer at the time and you're right, FF was on the nintendo consoles first. My research also shows that Nintendo was assholes in handling the cost of cartridges on the SNES. That was very dishonorable. In Japan honor comes before business unlike the rest of the world. Right now Square is being dishonorable. They need to keep FF games on the sony consoles for at least 3 years before releasing them on other systems. If a gamer is honorable they will boycott FF13 and 14 to teach SE a lesson.

Ok, you got me... I didn't know this was a joke account.

Hey TC, no hotlinking. Your OP is displaying the ol' red X.

Everyone's joking around (for the most part) now, but if Versus went multi the true Sony Fanboys wouldn't be able to pretend their panties weren't in a knot.

Another thing, this is not FU****G FF14, it's FFOnline 2. They need to separate the official series.

They are really starting to worry me. First FF "11", then the BS that was 12, I'm a longtime square fan, but I seriously hope 13 and/or Versus is good. Otherwise, I can't see me getting the same rush when an FF title is announced.

Why is Versus XIII OK, but XI and XIV are "NEEd2bSepEratEd!"?

This isn't really a surprise, true or not..I think it will find its way on the 360 eventually, just like 11...given the right circumstances.

FFXI is more true to the vision of the original games than any of the modern titles...games like FFXII and FFXIII could really be a completely different series if it weren't for stuff like chocobos and moogles. The idea that it needs to be separated simply because it's online is so misguided.

I agree, It probably shouldn't be called Final Fantasy XIII Versus. It doesn't really make any sense.

And while I have nothing against MMORPG's, I just don't believe that when most people think of 'the main FF Series' they think MMORPG. Square built the FF series so they can use it anyway they please, and informed gamers are going to know what's what, but I hope they don't rape the name into oblivion.

I mean, if Dragon quest 10 came out as a FPS with slimes, would it still be Dragon Quest just because of it's handle?

The game was never announced as an exclusive. Tretton's words were pretty specific. And just wow at some of the comments in this thread. If versus went multiplat... :lol

DQ9 was going to be an action RPG, as DQ9. It didn't end up being that way, but it could have been!

i am quite happy that its going to 360 too which means there would be more players!!!! Seriously if it has something like FFXI party system(which i hope it has, i loved forced parties due to socializing in the game more than other mmorpgs) more players are always good!
And i hope they dont split servers like EU onry US onry JP onry!

That's completely different, though. FFXI is online, yes, but it's still an RPG with a richly developed world, a structured storyline about good versus evil, and a combat system that brings characters based on various archetypes together with their different abilities. It's still Final Fantasy.

What's the bigger lie? Tretton saying the original Killzone 2 video was realtime or that FFXIV is an exclusive?

Neither. The biggest lie is that Genji features battles that actually took place in ancient Japan.

Cue Giant Enemy Crab.

And even i am moderately surprised
What's the bigger lie? Tretton saying the original Killzone 2 video was realtime or that FFXIV is an exclusive?

neither :

"400 games at launch for Japan
and
700 games at launch for NA"

I don`t think Tretton lied. His exact words were that the ps3 would be the only console to play ffxiv on when it launches in 2010. In other words its a timed exclusive.

My sentiments exactly. It would pretty cool to play with my friends who don`t have ps3`s.

But the battle system doesn't resemble FF at all. That's pretty big since it's, you know, what a lot of people play the series for.

FFXI battle system is not far off FFI, and it's certainly a lot closer to traditional FF than either FFXII or FFXIII. The fact is, the series has been evolving more than ever in recent years. I'd assume FFXIV's battles will be different too.

Aside from the auto-attack, how does it not? You have normal attacks, spells, special attacks and abilities, and the Weaponskills that serve as the traditional "limit breaks." Characters have specific roles like Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage, Thief, etc. and contribute to the battle using their specific skill sets. There are normal encounters and boss fights. It's pretty much Final Fantasy in a nutshell.

good news. more players on a mmo is always a good thing.

does anyone know if 360 is popular in south korea? if it is, that might be a reason why they'd make it multiplat (other than huge install base in USA).

Not to surprised. They set up the multiplatform MMO thing with FFXI. Being the only MMO to do so, and to my understanding having great success with it (other than being ultimately limited by PS2's capabilities)

And that's the problem. The fanbase is being divided with each new entry because Square doesn't know how to stick with what works like they did in the Sakaguchi years.

Free movement and auto-attack.

The only way this news could be seen as negative is that it further splits the player base for the game. Hope there is cross platform play!

That isn't anything to do with fanbase at all. FF8 and FF7 couldn't be more different in how they played, but both were the biggest selling FFs of all time.

But it was still the same ATB battle system. Even if the actual content of the battles changed, the core system was still there. Sure, there was drawing instead of MP and limit breaks didn't use a gauge, but it worked pretty much exactly like any other game from FF4-FF9.

Considering all four versions of FFXI play together, there's almost no way they wouldn't have the three versions of FFXIV be able to play together.

I'm not a Sony fanboy but I really hope Versus XIII stays exclusive.
What other reason could you possibly have for the later if the former is true?

For all sakes and purposes, FFXI and XII had an alternate form of the ATB system. FFX-2 also featured the standard ATB and 5/Tactics styled class system, and that didn't change people's opinion on it.

Exclusives can take full advantage of the hardware. With so many multiplatform games, sometimes it's easy to forget 360 and PS3 are different with their own set of strengths and weaknesses.

Alternate or not, it's still very different. FFXII plays like a single player MMO and has a major reliance on gambits because attacks are so insignificant that playing without them is tedious.

I'm canceling my pre-order. This is ridiculous. All I ask for is one lousy exclusive and Square decides to kowtow to MS. At least Versus will still be exclusive.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I am so tired of people saying things like FFXI is not a real FF game, when at it's core, it's so true to the FF name.

This game isn't for me since I don't like MMOs ... dunno why bother to have conole MMOs since 99% of MMOs are played on a PC. Wonder how many copies FF14 will sell.

Doesn't mean they can't work a 360 port that uses its own strengths, while not hampering the PS3 version. The game is being made with the Crystal Tools engine, right? It's not like it'd really cause them that many issues.
