STALKER 2 - 30 Min Developer Deep Dive on 12th August

That was really good. I just wish they would stop using the controller because it's so slooowww but other than that, it looks like a true successor.

Not bad. It'll be interesting to see just how big the map will be this time around.... and they also need to beat the last Metro game so there's that too. I wish them all the best though, whether I'll like the game in the end or not.

That was very good Deep dive.

I am very convinced of everything and only the final performance/optimization gives me doubts. We hope that the impressions in this regard are good and that the delay of the launch helps.

How in the everloving fuck does GSC Game World get the money for this game? Is Microsoft bankrolling it or what? I refuse to believe that they can finance a game like this with just the profits from the Stalker games alone.

Helps that salaries are cheaper there. Keeps overall budget smaller than the usual AAA fare, given that dev pay normally makes up the bulk of game budgets.

For those that have been following the game while also being fans of the first trilogy... How does it look? Like a true successor? Or some kind of dumbed-down deal?

Wow the game looks so beautiful.
To imagine Rockstar would put something even better than this. Definitely time to upgrade next year.

I didn't read the subtitles and I don't understand what they said but from the video (I watched it quickly) it almost seems like there's no game here.
they were unlucky but it doesn't seem like anything even remotely close to the release

They showed a single quest. It wasn't supposed to be comprehensive breakdown of the entire game.

Maybe try watching it with subtitles without skipping through it next time.

My only concern is that food and sleep mechanics in games is usually just a wtf distraction. But other than that I'll be there day one.

The first game had the heart, but boy was their tech not there. Seems like they can finally realise their vision. If this was xbox footage, it was quite impressive.

That was a damned good showcase. The game is giving off exactly the sort of vibes I'd want from STALKER. Hats off to GSC, it looks like they may have managed to pull off a miracle.

I just zapped through the video, I like the look of it quite a bit.

What I noticed;

  • there are ballistic trajectories of the projectiles again, I think that's great
  • the weapons were unfortunately not licensed, the G36, for example, is only named after its caliber: "5.56x45"
  • the sound is somehow too tame, do some full-auto shooting in a building, it makes your ears ring, it should sound more brutal for my taste
  • Assets all look nice
  • Game world is well filled and looks desolate and same time lively
  • Climbing and jumping passages seem to be predetermined or emphasized in contrast to the old games, it seems "casualized"

Does the video say anything about which system it runs on?
Is this the console version or the PC version with controller?

I'm curious about the console performance.

It's so nice to see a FPS that looks so different from the rest and this just looks a perfect sequel to the 1st game. Sure , I expect this game to be buggy, like the 1st, but the art direction, game setting and world made up for it in the 1st game, looks like the same will be true in this.

I have to correct myself. I've now looked at it again, in the weapon wheel you don't see any weapon names, but the firing mode and the loaded ammunition (which speaks for different ammunition types per caliber, as in the predecessor).

Nevertheless, fantasy names are used; at 12:43min you can see that the G36 is called GP37.

And unfortunately, materials do not seem to be penetrable.
At 19:52min they shoot at the outer edge of a pole, at 19:56min you can see that it has no effect whatsoever on the adjacent surface. What a pity!

Looks incredible. I'm loving the sounds from the guns. I have no history with these games but it looks like a new metro. The AI doesn't look too great. Seems to be the only flaw I can see.

A question for stalker fanboys, how is the humans-beasts ratio of enemies?

What do you fight more in the first game?

I haven't played the original for so many years, but I remember it running like shit on my shit PC at the time when it released and not getting through it for that reason. From what I remember though, there was still some great gameplay.
Looks like this sequel will be a good game to get fully immersed in and explore the world.

My kind of game. Finally something to look forward to.
Yeah, same here.
I am captivated by the game's settings and atmosphere—the sense of freedom, solitude, and the perilous situations that should not be underestimated, requiring intelligent and stealthy management. The graphics are outstanding, with remarkable depth and detail; in short, I was thoroughly impressed by what I experienced.

The structure assets look kinda low tier in quality and detail. Some of those buildings look like they were straight pulled from the Clear Sky assets. I definitely see a downgrade from earlier trailers.
It's understandable to expect a bit less exceptional graphics in a vast open-world game, but personally, I find the visual quality already impressive and quite remarkable.

In my opinion, it might be helpful to steer away from constant discussions about potential 'downgrades.' We've seen this occur in numerous games, where developers, in an effort to build excitement, have presented visuals that seemed almost too good to be true. It's important to remember that what we initially see doesn't always reflect the final product, especially when complex factors like physics, AI, game mechanics, and actual gameplay come into play. Let's enjoy what we have got ;)

Modding have you cover, this game gonna be HUGE when the Gamma modders start doing their magic

Easy to say this. But modders had literally the source code for the game. Yes UE5 is meant to be good for modders. But there may be a LOT more restrictions than you will see with stalker mods today.

I fucking love gamma - have 100s of hours and I think it's the best thing ever. I just think we are years if ever from seeing something remotely similar in S2. I hope I'm wrong though.

There's no way we dont get a Gamma equivalent in UE5 when they are modding the ancient ass X-Ray Engine with those results
