Ugh. Even copying the previous game install into the new install folder doesn't help with the download. The new launcher still attempts to redownload the entire damn game again. Will have to wait until after midnight and set it to download overnight. That way it's not counted toward my bandwidth usage. This is why I go long stretches of time not messing around with the game. I should have waited a few days as I just updated the game a few days ago.

I'm halfway contemplating picking up an Orion during the event. None of the current members on the roster sheet claim having one, and nobody mentioned getting one back when the concept sale happened. Meanwhile we have a number of people with exploration and trading craft. Explorers to find the valuable asteroid fields. Traders to do the hauling and refueling. The only thing missing is something to extract the valuable elements from the asteroids and an Org profit chain is completed.

Edit: And obviously we have plenty of fighters to potentially keep such an operation safe.

Just added myself to the Gaf spreadsheet, been a member of the Org since the beginning.

You guys with your nice expensive targets.....I mean ships.....will need me and my Avenger/Cutlass blue to keep your journeys safe and pirate free!

Yup, sounds good. It'd be a good thing to work toward even if no one buys one up front. The Orion benefits from having players to operate the drilling gear too.

Edit: Orion added to the fleet. At least this way we know the Org has a starting point.

Sweet!

Ideally the Orion benefits from people running a number aspects. The mining deep dive gave quite a few things that need to be done and monitored (and unlike the passenger transport, actually seemed like they could be interesting if done right). It's anyone's guess how good the AI will be at those tasks, and it will give people the opportunity to do something they wouldn't normally have access to (at least not at that scale).

It's one of the few things that seems like a sure fire bet for the Org when it comes to having an income stream that can be funneled into other things - both additional ships and potential Org events. Reclaiming ships seems like it'd be more profitable, but valuable ships would logically be more rare than asteroid fields, and also likely to be in riskier areas (there's a reason the ship is dead in the first place).

Edit: Orion added to the fleet. At least this way we know the Org has a starting point.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a gamble really. The ship may not go on sale again with any decent insurance options. If it turns out we already have one (or more) and the person plans on that being their thing, then I'll potentially just melt it for other stuff. I just didn't want to run into the situation where our explorers find some great mining locations, but the Org has nothing to deal with them. We also have at least a few large transport ships that will undoubtedly have difficulty filling their holds in the beginning. Buying goods costs money. A mining platform, however, is basically a cargo generator. Meanwhile the whole operation gives people wanting to run escorts something to do. Basically a win/win situation all around if all goes to plan.

Not much of a gamble when you put it that way! Well, I'm sold. Picked one up too.

Just back from Gamescom. The Star Citizen booth was... uhm... rather shoddy, worst booth of the whole show. Can't really blame them since they have a dedicated event to organise, though. Met Sandi, she seemed so skinny and slender, looked like she's really wearing down from the whole game. Got some silly airplane and a Star Citizen tattoo as free loot.

But the Elite booth, that was one was awesome. Round table full of hotas setups, and an awesome ship replica. Will edit with pic once I've sorted them out. Think I'm switching over to Frontier now, sorry guys.

Well the gamble was mostly whether or not we actually needed one. Though there's also the whole "if everything works as planned" bit. We're running on theoretical situations based on information gleaned from the deep dives.

Quick question boys and girls, i already have a Phoenix and a Bantu, would getting a Carrack be redundant. ?

I'm also considering melting my M50 for a Scout, umm, should i. ?

I think it's best to dock the hype-driss in here as it's permanent home.
If someone who knows how to do photoshop could take care off adding people on it, i would appreciate it.

Carrack is really exploration focused. The Phoenix is more multi-function. The Banu is heavily transport focused. Just depends what you want to do.

As for the M50/Scout. I'd do it, but that's just me. Personally I find the Khartu-Al far more interesting as a ship. It's also supposed to be damn fast, so it's not like you're totally switching gears.

K, thanks. i think i'll go for the Scout.
i would have to borrow a 176£ for the Carrack, and even though i really want, i really can't afford it.

Wait, the entire goddamned presentation on Twitch was muted?

edit: Oh good, the Youtube archive works. Streaming copyright garbage is out of control.

Finally got to watch the multi-crew demo on my PC. Sweet tasty Jesus. Goosebumps when the Idris did the flyover and went to quantum speed. What they showed wasn't even hyperspace either, that was intrasystem travel.

That's what makes this game so frustrating for me. It literally is everything I want in a spaceflight game except the core mechanics. Just get the flight model and the controls right, essential things. Then I can truly be hyped for this game.

Whew. I was waiting for that to be available, thanks for the heads up. Here's the link to when Chris Roberts starts.

Looks like it's just finishing up encoding now. It was only 240p for a while, now it's up to 480.

Looks like they pulled in an extra $400+k during the short period the sale was up. Granted they were all expensive ships, but that's still quite a bit to haul in on sale that was a few hours long.

That multi crew demo. This game can't come soon enough... however I prefer they take as much time as they need. This is a very important game to the industry in multiple ways.

I guess my questions steams from the whole lifetime pass for Elite Dangerous lol. I honestly don't know how SC modules work in terms if say you buy this starter pack you only get access to one module (or two since I notice it says ARENA included).

Lifetime DLC isn't a thing in SC. Lifetime insurance isn't available for anything these days aside from concept sales. And concept sales are ship add-ons, not complete packages, so you can't just pick up a ship when one happens if you don't already have a package.

So...guess I should hold off. Confusing as heck for me. I did try that Arena thing once, was like playing an arcade game - minus the coins =D

Ahh, i think i get what you're saying.
If you buy either of those ships it will include both squadron 42 (the single player/co-op portion), and star citizen. (the mmo portion) as well as all modules leading up to both releases.

Now I am really confused. I just saw the multi-crew youtube and that got me interested. So if I buy one of those 45 starter packs Do I only get a few modules or all modules at release?

Is there any difference to those two starter ships besides visuals? Is one more cargo less speed/agile while other is opposite?

You could hold off, though the price for the final game will be a bit higher.

As for the whole LTI thing being confusing, I don't blame you. You can really just ignore it. It's something that's minor, but like anything on the net, is blown out of proportion. All you really need to know is that the starter packages have everything needed to get into the game as it stands, and the final game.

Buying additional ships aside, you'd be locked into whatever ship is in the package you buy for AC play unless they're having a test event. During those events you'll be able to fly other ships. There's also an in game currency that you can earn in ranked matches that allows you to rent additional equipment and ships.

Those are the actual ship pages with rough stats for the individual ships in the packages.
