Meh, I'm going to Gamescom August 15th. I'm taking someone with me who isn't a Star Citizen backer, so there's no point in registering for the event. Bummer :(

Ah, that's a shame. They'll be unveiling the 890 Jump and gifting one to every attendee too.

When I went to the PAX East thing, the bouncers didn't even glance at our passes. Non-backers could have gotten in without a problem.

..but the PAX East show didn't sell out in a few hours, unlike Gamescon.

Was the PAX East show paid? Because there's now a $10 attendance fee.

Yeah they're charging now. Supposedly because the venue is larger but I think it still costs them money regardless of charging. I believe it to be a way to give the people who actually want to be there the opportunity to come over. Previous Gamescom 'sold' out way too fast. I hope they provide some sort of compensation however. Like 890 Jumps.

I believe they're debuting the FPS module at Gamescom.

Although I imagine it won't be released to backers for at least another month after that if they just hooked up the UI, according to the June monthly report.

That seems incredibly optimistic. Though they might show some FPS elements, like a ship boarding prototype.

We'll get to see the FPS module, the Planetside module, the Ship Boarding module, Constellation, M50, Cutlass, Retaliator variant commercials and a sneak peek at the 890 Jump, Carrack, Orion, Surveyor, Hull C and Herald. Chris Roberts will also announce that all ships will be converted LTI.

The dogfighting is giving me feels that I only get playing Tribes, Warsow, and Quake. I can't imagine a higher praise that I can give to a game than that.

I don't even need the PU in order for this to probably be my GOTF.

Now, how do I prevent myself from blowing a stupid amount of money on this game? Have the Hornet, and now I can hear the Connie calling my name.

Exquisite taste.

Every time I wanted a new ship I threw money at another promising Kickstarter. Downside of that is that I have a hard time keeping track of all the games I supported. When Enemy Starfighter is finally ready for it I will be throwing some money that way as well.
DONT. BUY. SHIPS.

Should be in the thread title. :p
I will not fall for this reverse psychology trickery. Time to nab a grey market scout!

But, I have money and only one ship. They have ships. Seems like the basis for a solid free market transaction.

I did upgrade my Aurora LTI to the Hornet w/ LTI, and I think I'll call it good for now. I will need to buy some sort of larger ship like the Connie at some point to fit my crew of friends in though.

I don't have a lot of time to put into games, but I do have a full time job, so skipping a grind to get to the fun part is something I'll almost always do.
Exquisite taste.
Hah, thanks :p

I host a LAN a few times a year just to get everyone in the same room playing Warsow CA.

Late to the party but I jumped on board over the holiday weekend. Just went with the Aurora LN as I figured there was no need to spend more then necessary. Especially with the game being so far out and not knowing how ships will be acquired in the game. It's crazy how much time I've wasted just messing around in the hanger and in the single player wave mode in Arena. If I had more money to spend I would have got another ship initially but I happen to like the look of the Aurora the more I mess around with it.

Would be nice if I could actually take the LN into the Arena game. It seems it hasn't been properly added to the Arena system yet so I have to take the Aurora Trainer in. Not sure if the weapons are different but the ones on it seem to drain very quickly. To the point if I miss to many shots the enemies shields are back by the time I can fire again. Making things last a lot longer then they should I think.

Why? I'm not sure I understand the reason to not buy any. Other than, "better ones might be out that you'll want instead".

I wasn't serious (or was I? dundunduunnn). The thing is, it's so seductive but yet so irrational to buy ships for this game as it's essentially nothing more than a model viewer right now for all but three of the ships.
Personally I also still fear that the more people are milked in the pre-release phase the more the devs will be ready to monetize the game in all the bad ways we know from free-to-play when it goes live.

I haven't been keeping up with Star Citizen beyond the hanger alpha. I've been playing a lot of Elite: Dangerous, though. Is Star Citizen currently comparable to Elite: Dangerous atm? Only interested in playing in VR, btw.

Elite is much further along. Star Citizen's persistent universe is at least a year away while Elite has a shot at releasing by the end of the year.

OR is working in Arena Commander, but expect to have a lot of hassle. E: D has been in dev longer and has much more polish at this stage than SC.

Ship variants should be live by v1.0 of AC, which is to say you'll be able to fly your own ship before multicrewed ships like the Freelancer/Connie go live.

Be more conservative with your shots - pay attention to how the RoF reduces when power is low, and keep an eye on the power menu until you're able to feel how much each shot costs.

Thanks. I'll be sure to pay more attention to that.

Edit: Due to Elite being further along I would have jumped on that first had the price of entry hadn't been so much higher then Star Citizen. I wanted to mess around with something similar and I couldn't justify what they were asking so SC got my money instead.

I'm not really talking about the persistent universe, more like something to play with. But I think I still understand your point. Elite already has like 10 missions to play through, and a huge update is coming on the 29th.

Elite is so much fun, one of the best VR games thus far, but I have to admit I'm way more excited for Star Citizen. Which is precisely why I try avoiding info on it, even though I backed it. If I don't think about it as much, the wait isn't as bad.

Just play and enjoy the game for better ships instead of buying your way in. :)
I have a limited gaming schedule, being 30 with a full time job, a house, a wife, and 5 acres to manage.

If I can immediately skip grinding with money, they can feel free to take it. If I can have a fleet of ships to swap out so my group can run certain types of missions day 1, I'll do that.

I suppose what I'm saying is that the idea of not buying ships is really subjective, or at least it seems that way. I haven't seen any objective reasons of why it's a bad idea.

I believe the point he's getting at is that there isn't an advantage to buying ships with money - you're playing the game no matter what. If the game isn't fun (ie playing it is seen as a grind) then just shoving more money at it probably won't solve the issue.

If you've got people you want to play with though and aren't concerned with spending money there's nothing wrong with starting out with a ship that goes along with a roll you think you'll like.

Elite is about to drop to $75 on the... 15th? I believe. Midway through the month. It's a super slim period between the price drop and closure of the beta, however. You can pre-order a $75 spot right now, however.

I bought the premium for $150. I figured that the game will likely cost $60, the DLC is already announced at $50, that means I basically bought my way into 2 betas for $40, which was worth it to me.

This exactly. I only play MP games with a group of pals. Having more options immediately to change the way we play the game makes it more interesting. If we can do escort runs with a frieghter, or immediately start with some piracy, etc etc, then it's pretty rad, and everyone will have more fun.

Doing Aurora runs until we can mix things up sounds like a chore.

is the only way to get new ships to buy them with real money?

If you want to have some real fun with friends, it's better to wait until the new batch of multiperson ships come available (Orion, Surveyor, 890). Those will still take at least a year before they're flyable in the dogfighting module though. So wait! Don't buy anything you can't immediately make use of (because when you finally can, it is 99% likely to go on sale again).

I just won a PS4, can't wait for Chris Roberts to keep his word and bring Star Citizen to the one true console.

You what?! And here I am, having to pay €2000 in bills this summer and having to delay my White PS4 purchase because I still need to buy some other games this year :(.

We've chewed on that particular topic so often, I'm starting to think I should study an interpretative dance routine on that issue.

Since I am just a lazy bum with access to google image search, have this instead.

Tongue-in cheek dickishness aside: Keep his word? The one where he said he had no current plans? He only said he might consider it, potentially, if the platform holders bent over backwards and figuratively took it up the bum without lube. Which might still happen, but I wouldn't count on it quite as seriously as you do.

Read through this thread as to what exactly would need to happen.
