Today at the D23 EXPO 2015, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced to an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., allowing Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away.

Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever at 14-acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

These authentic lands will have two signature attractions, including the ability to take the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.

This is shocking news to me, I never expected Disney to leverage the Star Wars license this way whatsoever

They're going to make an astounding amount of money on this

Absolutely fantastic artwork and I'm very excited for it in DHS which sorely needs a draw, but they're gonna have to work hard to convince me this belongs in Disneyland Park if that's where it's going (as it appears to me).

Where exactly will this be fitting in Anaheim?

Anyway, I haven't been there since 2007 right before they started building Cars Land. I hope to make a trip there again.

The decision to have it at Disneyland probably comes from where they have more space to work with as DCA doesn't have much.

Awesome.

So what part of the park are they going to have to replace or tear down? I thought Disneyland was pretty much out of room.

It's strange that they decided to theme it around a completely unknown planet.

Nothing "out of character"?? Are all the shopkeepers going to pretend like they are aliens or something? I didn't think any amusement parks really did this. Sounds a bit too "Renaissance Fair".

Completely unofficial speculative look at what 14 acres looks like at Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida (and a hint at what may go to make way for this)

Aren't their rumours that ToonTown is on the chopping block?

Id like to go back to a disney park but I dont think I can deal with the crowds. Maybe its time to hire a disabled person to come with us so we can skip the lines.

I'm okay with seeing ToonTown go... saw it in the 90s in LA. Saw it 2 years ago in Tokyo. I'm good.

All I want:

-life size AT-AT
-life size millennium falcon that I can go inside
-cantina restaurant that has the cantina song on infinite loop

that's it

Just rename Hollywood Studios to Star Wars Land. That will be the only reason to go there.

Tower of Terror (and specifiically the DHS one) is still one of the best rides at any Theme Park. Not to mention Toy Story Mania is incredible, and they are expanding that to have a third track. Also rumors indicate a larger Pixar presence at DHS, with Carsland being built there as well.

Do some research on low times. There are plenty of times during the year when there are barely any crowds at all and no ride has more than a 15 minute wait.

That sounds like a dream... Went to Tokyo Disney in the summer and that was basically just waiting in lines all day...

They're not going to get rid of Star Tours. It'll be part of the land.

Last time I went the lines for Star Tours was so short I went on it 4 times consecutively without waiting in any lines at all. Literally got off the ride, circled back around, and got right back on without waiting.

Same here. Loved it. My wife and I tried to see all 50 screens, saw the majority of them for sure.
