Holy cow, The Last Battle is definitely in my top 5 Rebels episodes, loved it. The tactical droid was such a great character.

On that note I really need the Alan Rickman-alike protocol droid back.

Star Wars animated EU is top-notch.

I really hope Filloni gets to make a Empire - TFA bridge series.

If anyone can clear up some of that background mess, it's him.

Man I loved everything about the episode, especially that ending title card. The only thing that would've made it better was if Ahsoka was still around to complete the whole Clone Wars aspect.

The battle droid screaming OH MY GOOOD before being crushed cracked me up.

I thought it was decent but i was hoping that they would go into the PTSD angle more when rex had that mental lapse in the beginning

Pretty good episode. Made me realize that I kinda miss the clumsy humor of the battle droids. Ending credits were great. Didn't even really notice it at first, I'm so used to that ending theme playing at the end of animated Star Wars.

This episode was so heavy for me.

A close friend died this week.

Caleb used to be one of my students, but we became friends after he graduated and began college. He would spend the weekend at my house even after I moved away from his town. He gave me a PS4 just because he was that nice of a guy. I honestly don't think I've ever met someone so genuine, so kind, so humble. When Caleb was a senior in high school he pushed me over and over to watch the Clone Wars cartoon. I hated anything and everything to do with the prequels so I wouldn't. He would tell me about how much he loved the clones as characters, how great Anakin's apprentice was, how excited he was for the new season on Netflix, etc. Given the age that he was, this was his Star Wars.

One day I flipped it on just to humor him. Hearing Yoda sound like Yoda again in that first episode sold me on everything. I was 100% in. The prequels went from being these painful memories to being nearly completely redeemed by the incredible, fleshed out characters and stories of the Clone Wars cartoon. I blazed through Clone Wars. Caleb would come over and watch with me sometimes when he knew I was approaching a good story arc. When I finished it, I was so happy. I really enjoyed my time with the series.

When Rebels premiered, it was absolutely my speed. I loved it from episode 1 and the feeling of being back in the Star Wars universe that I grew up in was incredible. It was like coming home. This time, I was the one who had to do the convincing, but eventually Caleb fell in love with Rebels as well. We would text about different story arcs, the season 2 finale, the season 3 premier, etc. We would share theories about what might happen or who we'd like to see show up in the movies. It was kind of this special thing that kept us checking in with each other at least once a week.

Then on Monday I got the news... After complaining about headaches for a couple of days, Caleb died in his sleep in his dorm room. He was 20 years old. His funeral is tomorrow.

Tonight I flipped on Rebels for the first time since I got the news and what do you know... It's a Clone Wars tribute episode. A tribute to the series that solidified my friendship with one of the best people I've ever known. A series that will always have bittersweet memories for me now.

It was just perfect. Caleb would have loved it. Rex was his favorite character and seeing the Clone Wars come to an end... Hearing that song at the credits...

I'm just sitting here sobbing. I wish so much that I could text him about it guys. I'd give anything to send him that text message right now.

Thank you for reading this. Tell a friend that you love them please.

Jackal, I can't imagine what you're going through right now. That sounds terrifying and your post has almost brought me to the brink of tears. It's crazy how fast we go away, but I'm glad there's things we share with our friends that make it feel like we're still with them. I hope you're ok, buddy.

I'm doing alright thank you. Those first couple of days were very rough, but it's gotten a lot better throughout the week. It only kind swells again when I do, play, or watch something that we would have done together or talked about.

Sorry for just kind of spilling all that to you guys. I just needed a place to share I suppose. It's hard for most people to understand a connection between something like a Star Wars cartoon and a real friendship haha.

I know the OT is considered superior in most respects to the PT, but the Clone Wars imagery in this episode was really nostalgic to me. Seeing lightsabers tear through battle droids and hearing the rolling and laser fire of the droidekas one more time was fantastic.

I loved the Cody mention and the end title gave me shivers. I need that tactical droid joining the Rebels.

Pretty dull, filler episode IMO.

That's my biggest issue with this show, I find most of it worthless aside from a couple episodes at the beginning and end of seasons so far, and the odd mid season episode.

I'm also just not terribly interested in the time period between the PT and the OT. I wish we'd get more shows, books, and/or comics focusing on the time between the OT and TFA, but I guess they probably want to do movies to deal with what Luke, Han and Leia were up to--probably after this trilogy is done and they can recast the actors less jarringly.

I stopped feeling that way the instant the
New Republic got 1 shotted in TFA
.
Completely ruining the end of ROTJ and all the years inbetween.
I was excited to buy Aftermath and Bloodline but after that shit I don't care anymore.

Heck I don't even care about the TFA timeperiod because even if they are victorious,
Disney will just undo it later for Rebels vs Empire in Episodes 10, 11, 12.
Honestly if the First Order somehow
has massive numbers in Episode 8 despite losing a planet sized base
I might be done with this trilogy.

According to the Rebels Recon for this episode, Kilani would only consider joining them if the Rebels showed that they could actually do some major damage to the empire, with the death star assault being cited as an example. Maybe that's a hint that this show will go past ANH...

That or he could show up in the comics.

Considering Filoni isn't the director anymore so he can focus on other mysterious projects, I would think they're already in the earliest stages for their next show.

I didn't really mind that. I don't really give a shit about the New Republic. I mostly just want to see what Luke was up to, get some material dealing with him recruiting and training new Jedi's and how it all went wrong (sure we'll get flashbacks in the next film or two, but I'd like to see it given more attention).

That's just me as a long time fan though. Luke was always my favorite, and with the old EU erased I'd love to see it redone in the new EU or new movies/shows.

and i'm willing to bet Kalani will be featured

you don't just set up an interesting character like that and not use them again

Yeah, that's the thing... the FO got damn near one shotted too, basically.

?

I don't even follow SW -that- closely, but I'm pretty sure that neither got anywhere near one shotted, just seriously wounded.

Afaik, The New Republic has a revolving government seat, so basically they destroyed one system out of many hosting the NR government. Sure, many important officials were killed (alongside millions of innocent civilians), but the good thing about a de-centralized gov is that they can be replaced rapidly.

Otoh the NO showed their hand, basically declaring war on the NR and losing their best weapon in one fell swoop.
No doubt they have also a large fleet as well though, and the NR Senate's complacency with the status-quo probably means the NR, though far larger and having more resources probably starts with a significant disadvantage in fire power, which is where the Resistance will help I guess.

It's interesting that Leader Snokes wanted to accumulate every single advantage in his corner (Planet Killer -destroyed unexpectedly early-, group of Sith trained warriors, and a -likely- large fleet) before starting the hostilities... Also interesting is the brain washing of the NO population into fanatical psychopaths, instead of the good old "we're the good guys, we just want order" Imperials.

Finally got a chance to watch this last episode. Pretty much every 2 or 3 minutes my wife would say to me, "I swear to god if they kill Rex I will find and kill these writers."

You can imagine her face when
he actually got shot a couple of times.

When Rex actually made the comment about
First Gen armor always holds up, she actually smiled a lot. I guess in Lost Stars they talk about how Stormtrooper armor and Tie fighters are made paper thin because it's cheaper that way.

I hope the show gets back to plot stuff soon. Not a fan of the episodic one off stuff centered around one character when they're trying to steal something on some mission yet again.

We have no information to indicate he is dead.

After finding out some of the old clone troopers made it to the emporer's royal guard. I'd love it if Cody showed up in a red uniform some day.

Either that or he could be a higher-up in Vader's 501st. Cody is a loose end in the Clones' stories that I'd be very interested in revisiting.

Ehh... I doubt Vader would keep him close. In almost every other instance he has separated himself from his old life with the sole exception of the Emperor.

IIRC there's a part in the Tarkin novel where Vader gets some stormtroopers to load cargo onto his shuttle and is surprised that one of them is a Clone. I wonder what the gap is between the clones who were part of the galactic empire and them being completely phased out (around Rebels era?)

Sorry, who is Cody again?

Commander Cody. He's usually wearing armor with yellow highlights. He was on Utapau with Obi-wan when Order 66 hit during Revenge of the Sith.

Sorry, who is Cody again?

Cody was Obi-Wan's right hand man. He was actually in the Prequels:

He was like the only Clone Trooper that had a name in the Prequels. Then, once The Clone Wars animated series came out, we learned that almost every Jedi Knight/Master had a right hand Clone Trooper to be with them during the war.

Most notable was Rex, who was Anakin's go to guy (Seen here with Cody):

Rex has now made it from the Clone Wars into the Rebels show, but since Cody was pretty much just as important in the Clone Wars, and his story left open ended. We're wondering where home boy is at.

If true, then this must be a recurring theme, as Vader (In Lords of the Sith) is a bit surprised when one of the Emperor's Royal Guards takes off his helmet to reveal he is an old Clone. He has tattoos on his face, and Vader has the passing thought that He probably would have called himself Inks.

Sorry, who is Cody again?

Clone Wars clone commander from TCW. Probably the most famous one, even moreso than Rex. Rex got more screen time than Cody, but Cody was briefly in Revenge of the Sith, so he probably wins, I guess.

Anakin and Obi Wan were both generals in charge of a clone battalion. Rex was the top guy in Anakin's, Cody was the commander of Obi Wan's. When you see old pictures of Clone War stuff, the guys with blue accents and stripes are from Anakin/Rex's battalion (the 501st), Obi Wan/Cody's battalion (the 212th) had yellow stripes and accents.
