Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

I don't think anyone would argue that the judgements being made here are accurate, on-the-money predictions. They're just feelings based on what they show us.

The dialogue comes off as wooden and fairly dodgy overall but trailers are like at max 4-mins of an hour and half movie and is dependent on the quality of trailer cutting more than that of the movie itself. Noone really knows but I wouldn't exactly but any money on some award winning dialogue or even plot for that matter. It seems generic as all hell even for star wars.

Not really. There's obviously ways to move the camera in dynamic ways without relying on shaky cam.

I think my personal issue with the scene is that it's too obvious an action shot that doesn't even look like the stick is making any contact whatsoever with the trooper and just a still behind action and perspective shot, like anyone with a camera could pull that shot off. Of course this is star wars so maybe it was the force all along.

I think I'm most excited to hear Alexandre Desplat's score for this. Hopefully the movie will be good but the soundtrack is gonna be special, as is almost always the case with the Frenchman.

"May the force be with us" part is a different take than the one used in the sizzle.

Why is there force reference at all in this movie. None of the rebels mention the force in ANH, and none of these characters are jedi (?). The use of the force theme music over and over is pretty cheap considering.

One of the characters is a member of the religion that worships the Force.

The rebels say that exact line during the Death Star briefing in ANH.

Predictions:
Jedah, the Jedi worship place will have statues of great Jedi like Yoda/Obi/Mace and maybe a desecrated Anikin one.

That new droid will be lovable and will wreck our emotions when it sacrifices itself.

Nah, was just hoping for a star wars movie without all the jedi and force stuff. They haven't added anything interesting to that part of the lore since Empire. The closest was the Plagueis story in ROTS.

Maybe you should find a different franchise then?

The Rebellion has always been deeply steeped in Force stuff, even when they thought there were no more Jedi.

I could have sworn I heard someone say May the Force be with Us in the meeting before the assault on the Death Star in ANH

What are you talking about? The officer giving the briefing to the pilots about the Death Star attack ends it with "Man your ships, and may the force be with you." And Ackbar says it moments before they start the attack on the Death Star II

I was specifically referring to ANH, where the force is a relatively minor plot point still. I conceded that instance following the briefing.

The force isn't a minor plot point. I mean the climax is dependant on the fact that Luke uses the force to make an impossible shot.

Look, you're just harshin' on his desire to have a Star Wars movie devoid of the most defining element of the entire franchise!

Can't you understand why this upsets him so much?

I feel like some Star Wars "fans" want a Star Wars that never even really existed. Go watch ANH again. The Force has always been a major part of the franchise, even from the first film.

Star Wars has always had a fantasy aspect to it, it's weird that.at people want it too be regular gritty military sci-fi. (That can be done in the world of star wars, but the main Cruz will always be good vs evil.)

A New Hope isn't all of the OT and Rogue One is a movie that's set before the whole OT and not just A New Hope.

You're awfully snarky. Not sure why.

It's been done to death in the movies. Seems like where this movie fits in the timeline would be a good opportunity to explore some other things than jedi etc. Maybe it does, but those are my impressions from the trailers.

The empire is going to Jedha a planet scared to the Jedi, but it's only in the context of getting Kaiber crystals to power the death star.

It would be a bit unbalanced if Vader was more prominent with Palpatine having a say too. ANH never leaned much that way and Vader seemed like a guard dog. Wonder how they'll handle that.

Not that I know of. Tarkin was rumoured a while back. It would be a bit weird if he didn't make a minor cameo seeing he was heavily involved with the Death Star.

Tarkin was heavily rumored to be in Rogue One and ... iirc, the Sizzle Reel (or trailer, cant remember lol) featured someone resembling him.

Would be great to see McDiarmid reprise his roll as Palpatine one last time though.

Some of the discussion in this thread suddenly made me realize how background noise Starkiller Base is in TFA. We only see it twice or so before it's big firing scene and it's not set up as a plot point or urgent threat or anything at all. I know the movie plays it as a surprise attack instead but it really makes it feel shoehorned in just for the Death Star homage.

In contrast The Death Star is the central threat in ANH and the motivating plot point thru the entire film. From the start of the film it's all about the Death Star plans, how powerful the base is, leading up to its actual use.

I hope Star Wars is done with planet destroying lasers after Rogue One.

I think that was the intent tho.
