Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

Idk why people are encouraging people to watch Donnie Yen beforehand only for Rogue One to inevitably fail at being even a fraction as awesome.

Because it's good to be exposed to a more diverse range of cool films and if the only way to do that is to make use of Star Wars hype, that's good too.

how could you not

You are all going to be disappointed at the lack of Donnie action.
The stuff they show in the trailers is already embarrassingly bad.
Just remember they hired the ENTIRE Raid crew and did nothing with them.

We wouldn't even had known the raid crew were hired for TFA if it wouldn't have leaked. Who knows if they had an action scene planned and never actually did it but it's not like they put them front and center in the trailers.

And I would in no way shape or form call what we've seen of him in Rogue One embarrassingly bad at all.

nah it's pretty wack. just waving his stick around and slapping storm troopers with it.

man imagine if these fools gave donnie yen jedi powers. so much cool power at their disposal in this universe and all we've seen is people twirl their lightsabers around and do a backflip or something.

i want some guy swiping people away left and right with their midichlorian strength and then doing force kwon do or some shit. man imagine if they gave gareth evans one of these films...phew. anyways i like the ensemble they've hired here, though felicity jones looks kinda suspect in the trailers so far.

never noticed that. cool, but isn't his character blind in here? anyways it wouldn't be the first time he was wasted anyways if he doesn't show some panache in this film. i remember blade 2 all he did was stand and pose with his sword lol.

Ah yes, the 5 frame gifts that loop a half second, those are always great to judge a movie's quality.

Just remember that was a different movie.

Its Gareth Edwards though. The guy who cuts to Godzilla battles on a tv in his Godzilla movie.

My expectation is he's the character who gets the badass but shot poorly intro and then plays the background until its time for his "Go! I'll hold them off scene" where he dies.

Look I'm not gonna jump to conclusions about the film on a whole, but for a trailer, where you're supposed to be cramming it full of the most visually stimulating and exciting shots you've got, the above shot is not a good use of that time. It has the kinetic energy of a George Lucas film. Maybe it's an homage to the prequels.

What if it's the only scene they could find where Donnie Yen does anything exciting?

brilliant trailer, damn it. Can't find anything to complain about, honestly

perhaps the guy who said the "good..." "good." banter feels really sterile is correct, but then again this is more like a war movie than Star Wars so a more dry tone is to be expected

So you want them to spoil all the best parts of the movie in the trailer?

I'd say the opposite. That's the worst way to undermine the actual film IMHO. A trailer should hook you with enough to make you want to know more or focus on tone/theme a'la latest Dunkirk trailer.

Showing all the "money shots" for action/effects films is the worst trend in trailers. IMO.

Lol okay remove 'the most' from my post, will that satiate your needs? The point is, regardless of whether you're trying to conceal the most exciting stuff or not, that static, dull, completely vanilla mid-shot probably shouldn't have made it into the film, let alone the trailer, let alone both trailers so far.

EDIT: Same to the above. If you want to conceal as much as possible in your trailer, great, all the better - but that doesn't mean the trailer itself can be filled with clunker shots like this one.

What if it's the only scene they could find where Donnie Yen does anything exciting?

Then Donnie Yen probably shouldn't be in the film!

I want people to better appreciate him and then rise up and complain with me when he inevitably gets shafted for screen time!

Black is us, white is the Hollywood execs we need to beat up.

Really have no idea how this one will turn out. The visuals and general idea is fantastic, really has massive potential. But the dialogue is just so, so bad. I know awkward dialogue is a it of a staple of star wards films but something about this one just feel so, off.

I really don't like the main lead either, purely because of the crappy dialogue. Can't stand her in every trailer so far due to the awkward way she speaks.

Best case scenario for me is that after the final shots of the surviving heroes, it goes to Vader in a tracking shot as he moves through the star destroyer to the doors of the Tantive IV and walks through, then the screen wipe to credits.

If it doesn't end on that shot I may have to hurt someone.

Just remember they hired the ENTIRE Raid crew and did nothing with them.

The Raid crew was hired for fight choreography. Appearing on screen for that Kanjiclub bit was just a bonus.

My favorite critique is when people learn of a specific technique for how a scene can be presented, and then assume that said technique is the only way that type of scene should be presented, and when they see any alternative they say "Hey that's not the thing I know of, that's obviously wrong."

I'll reserve judgement but man does that camera need some work.

Granted it's a "trailer scene," but add some energy please. Donnie is electric.

I know how this kind of critique goes though.

Hold the camera still . . . ADD SOME ENERGY PLEASE!!!

Move the camera . . . OH GOD SHAKY CAM KILLING MY EYES, MAKING ME SICK, STOP!!!!

Body armor doesn't make a person impervious to being hit or feeling a hit, body armor is basically designed to help keep a person alive. Wearing a helmet doesn't mean you don't feel a kinetic blow to the head, but helps protect you and reduces it's effect, but physics is still against you. Same with a bullet "proof" vest or flak jacket, take a round to the chest and theres a good chance you are gonna be knocked out, and still hurt. People don't typically just get shot and stand right up like it was nothing, they are often in bad pain and can't move for long period of time, and good chance a rib breaks.

I once got wacked across the head with a broom handle while wearing a full faced motorcyle helmet while horsing around with friends. Yea it felt like I got punched on the side of my head hard still, big mistake. Without the helmet I likely would have probably had a cracked skull and been knocked unconscious, imagine someone hitting you for real with an actual weapon though?

There was that one slow motion triple kick
