Star Wars: The Force Awakens |OT| A New Hope

Still haven't seen the final trailer or really any footage past Teaser 2. My hype is huge. It honestly feels surreal in a way that a new Star Wars movie opens in a week.

Got my tickets for Thursday evening, and then for two more screenings Friday morning starting at 8am. If I really like the movie I plan on seeing it twice more Friday afternoon/evening.

I believe in the Force.

I just did a Episodes 1,2, all 6 seasons of Clone Wars, 3, caught up with Star Wars Rebels, 4, 5, 6 rewatch and I still think RotS (3) is one of my favorites. Watching Anakin turn into one of the most iconic and tragic characters in all of cinema a real delight.

As a film, its fine, its part in the wider context irks me because I cannot root for a Darth Vader that murders children, nor a wife who stands by him despite him being a sociopath.

Its one of those the more I think about it the more I dislike it on a conceptual level, turn brain off, watch, enjoy.

I can enjoy all of the prequel films, but I refuse to think about them

Does watching from 1-6 for the first time make the originals look better or worse? I wondered about that, I would only consider showing people 4-6 then 1-3 not 1-6 in a row.

Just show them 4-6. 1-3 will seriously damper any hype. Plus, six Star Wars movies over six days will leave them totally burned out for VII.

Actually, the more I think about it, I'm out of this thread until next Friday at around 10PM CST. May the Force be with you all.

I introduced my boyfriend to Star Wars a couple of months ago and we had a marathon.. he had a different taste than most, VI-V-III-IV-I-II, but loved them all. I check my phone last night and get a Facebook notification and he's watching the movies all over again on his own. There's been an awakening, indeed. #ProudBoyfriend

Hmm

I only ask because I refuse to believe someone wouldnt have leaked it en mass and it be public knowledge, these are two HUGE things in the film, what Luke does, who is related to who (if any).

Theres stuff ive learned about this film that I wish I didnt that is of much much lesser degree than those two questions, just by browsing reddit randomly.

I remembrer, a year ago, JJ talking about the rumors which were already out. He said in an interview to news.com.au (spoiler-free):

"The level of scrutiny is pretty much unprecedented for me. My dream is that, despite so many rumors — many of which are true, many of which are untrue — when people see the movie, they see something that hasn’t been completely ruined for them by having read spoilers they might not have wanted to read."

I can guess there is a lot on the internet since then. Plus the thing you said about the concept arts and all.

There are still a lot of unfounded speculation coming from podcasters I think. Some are just in a deep level of wishful thinking, hoping to see crazy connections to the EU.

I can see that but if you watch Clone Wars and see how much the Emporer manipulated him, manipulated everyone, he was the real evil of those stories.

Does watching the prequels first really spoil anything? Surely everyone knows the Luke I am your father twist. Is there anything else that I might get spoiled about?

Twins

You would be surprised, even for Star Wars there are alot of people who havent seen the films

I really expect it to be good. The studio, the writers, the actors and all who were involved were well aware of the huge expectations. But from what JJ has said about them wanting to deliver a "delightful" story, pratical SFX and a "new" Star Wars experience, it can't suck like the prequels. Maybe it won't be the best movie of all time, maybe it'll just be good, but I guess that's enough for most of us, right?
please, be the best SW ever!!!!!

it ruins your awesome head canon about the origins of R2D2 and c3po and might gross you out watching Luke and Leia get a bit too close. Plus, it makes you wonder why obi wan and anakin are so terribad when the duel in ANH

It spoils another reveal that happens in RotJ. It also ruins your first exposure to the Emperor, I'd argue.

I won 5 tickets for a 7:00 showing next Thursday with reserved seating in a contest. I'm bringing my dad and my brother, plus a couple friends. Super excited, should be fun :]

The Mortis arc, maybe? It's entertaining, and heavily Annie-centric, but also occupies an extremely divisive place within the fandom. That, or the Zillo Beast episodes, if you're looking for some dumb fun.

I'd go with the last few episodes of season 5 and all of season six.

Taking a bit from each suggestion, I think what I might end up doing is the three Mortis followed by the last three of s6 which are sort of an indirect followup. That should amount to 2 hours and 18 minutes, around movie length.

What about the Slaves of Kadavo arc? Pairing that with Mortis might work well for Anakin's character.

Are there any other episodes that come to mind that show Anakin in his "fuck it we're doing this my way, and it worked" mood?

Only 6 more days. I finished Clone Wars way earlier than I thought I would, it was an amazing ride. Now I'm just rewatching the OT in anticipation.

Tickets? Check
Both Trilogies Watched? Check

Hadn't watched the prequels since release, but outside of the Dumpster Fire that is Ep.1, they aren't terrible.

5 > 6 > 3 > 4 > 2 >>>> 1 for me.

Thinking of putting up an OT for a rewatch starting tomorrow

Ep 1 11th
Ep 2 12th
Ep 3 13th
Ep 4 14th
Ep 5 15th
Ep 6 16th

Right before Opening day, watch one a day, discuss it, move on the next day

Excellent Idea. I just finished the last one last night.

I've checked my email about 100 times to make sure I've still got my tickets for the midnight screening. No words can describe how excited I am for this movie.

Are we going to allow the special editions for IV-VI though? Because they should be outlawed.

Do the theaters near you guys not do 7 PM showings? I'm seeing it at 7 PM Thursday. I don't know why you'd go see it at midnight if there's an earlier showing.

The Blu-ray versions (essentially updated special editions) are the only available options for the vast majority of people, of course that is what you should expect people to be seeing and talking about.

Hey, if people want to pay for them and watch the despecialized editions instead then everyone wins.

I saw that J.J. Abrams says he was inspired by Terrence Malick so either there will be lots of shots of trees and birds or there has been a whole of post-production changes which cut actors out of the film completely.

I'll probably catch this when I head up to see my parents. There's a small theatre in the next town over and i'm sure it won't be hard to get a ticket. I'll be a few days late, but I'll get to see it with my brother so it's worth the wait

it's kinda a fucking shame that the only way to watch this in 2D is via general admission. In other words, no reserved seating. At least that's how it is at the theatres near my house.

I'm thinking I might just go middle of the day on Friday to watch it again in 2D. I managed to get both next Thursday and Friday off work :)
