Im guessing here that the early access is a generic code. It doesn't matter what version you ordered since you wont be identified with the version until you input the serial from the actual game, whether it is in the box or emailed to you at the time of release.

It's what makes sense but I haven't registered mine yet so ...

Sure, but there could be different codes for different versions. What would stop them from putting a different series of codes into physical copy CE pre-order boxes?

It's apparently associated with version you purchased. After registering my code, it recognized that I bought the Standard Edition.

You are right. Had a quick look at mine and it recognizes the version as well.

So there could be different head starts for different versions, but that is still unconfirmed.

ok im registering my CE will let you guys know
edit: You are correct, it does detect the version you have. I suggest those of you trying to upgrade not to panic and contact customer support.

What if I want to upgrade to the Collectors edition? EA won't give me an option to do this?
I'd like to know this too. I have the Standard Edition pre-order tied to my account but if I find a Collector's Edition in stores I'm going to buy that instead. Hopefully they'll allow me to apply the CE key to my SE preorder.

Just snagged a CE on amazon.com since no Canadian retailer has their stuff together to even list the game on their websites to pre-order! (including amazon.ca)

Hopefully the pre-order key swapping works so we can "upgrade" our pre-order code we already applied.

So is there anything to stop me from pre-ordering the Collector's Edition on Amazon to get 1 week of Early Access code -- then cancelling in favor a more reasonably priced version of the game later on?

Nope

No, but you will lose your Early Access as soon as you cancel your order (at least it says so on Amazon.de). That move will stop working as soon as they stop giving out codes.

Is there actually any indication that CE gets more early start time? Someone was mentioning that earlier preorder key activators will get the first early start slots.

So the sooner you get Early access depends on what version you pre-ordered (C.E>Digital Deluxe>Regular) or the time you pre-ordered and activated your early access code?

Edition. CE = 7 days. Others = 3.

Preordered this on Gamestop.com and went into the store a moment ago, and was told that where I preordered online that I wouldn't get an early access code? Do I need to cancel and just do an in-store preorder?

Thought so, any official link confirming it?
It was somewhere on origins. I'm on my phone now, so not going through the hassle of finding it right now. I didn't really have to dig for the information though.

There has been a rumor claiming pre-order codes from the physical and digital CEs grant you a 6 day head start and codes from standard edition pre-orders a 3 day head start.

This is still unconfirmed.

Stephen Reid (Senior Community Manager) also mentioned something that would suggest a different system on twitter:
@alexisamonster It's based on when you redeem your pre-order code (in the FAQ)

I gotta imagine that they don't have the kind of infrastructure to do something like that....tracking a single key back to an Amazon account, and checking to see if the order is still in place. It's not worth all that hassle when people will still be able to abuse the system by going to a Gamestop and throwing down $5 for a CE code.

I imagine the worst they could to is prevent you from activating you account with anything BUT a CE code (eg: someone who downgrades after receiving early access must buy the CE or start a new account).

For the Star Wars fans

Complete saga on blu-ray for 90 bucks

So it doesn't matter which version you ordered to get the extra days? Everyone can get the 7 or 6 days as long as they put in the key earlier? So many mixed messages.

A lot of us don't want to be forced into PvP. I like PvP, but also like choosing when to PvP.
Pve is never pvp. So no you don't like pvp. But hey im totally ok with just having a seperate group that's on a pvp server. Its in my post you quoted actually.

$60? EA can fuck right off. I'll probably end up passing now. I have no interest in inflated pricing structures -- I can envision $50 expansion packs.

The official email said that those who pre-ordered and entered their codes first (no mention of what type) would be the first ones invited to the early start. So, basically, an incentive to pre-order NOW NOW NOW!

Well, there is a disclaimer on Amazon.de:

Bitte bachten Sie: Auf Grund der hohen Nachfrage können wir pro Kunde nur jeweils ein Exemplar der Standard und der Collector’s Edition von Star Wars: The Old Republic akzeptieren. Sollten Sie Ihre Bestellung stornieren, werden die Vorbesteller-Boni deaktiviert. Käufe über Amazon.de Marketplace sind von dieser Aktion ausgeschlossen.

Basically says every customer is allowed to place only one pre-order (due to high demand) and pre-order bonuses will be deactivated as soon as you cancel your order.

That could be handled differently by Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, though. And yes, it could just be a bluff.

Only EA/Bioware know for sure. There could be some truth to both versions. Like inviting CE pre-orders in a chronological order before doing the same with standard pre-orders.

They may clear this up at the comic con panel later today.

This has no way to flag yourself? I find that hard to believe.
You can flag yourself AFAIK. But there's never forced PVP in PVE like WoW has (Gurubashi Arena, enemy capitals (you can't enter those in TOR))

As petty as it is for me to say this: If they do that, I'll cancel my order. They've already tested me with the price point for a PC game (both digital and physical versions).

Personally, at this point I highly doubt they will do that. I got a feeling it's just going to be first come first serve.

I don't think I care enough to cancel my pre-order over this. Any head start will be completely irrelevant a few weeks after launch.

Naw. It's not petty but also I wouldn't worry about when you get to play or whatever. You're not alone.

I preordered the standard edition from Amazon, with the code for the 3 day (or whenever) headstart, I'll be able to download the game client right? I don't need the disks to arrive at my door?

Yeah. You'll be able to download the client from swtor.com or wherever and play that Saturday. We even get a few extra days after release before we have to put in the CD key in case the game doesn't arrive on time.

D to the L. Probably a week before it goes live.

Since they're offering a head start, it's safe to say they will make the client available for people to download ahead of time.

Yeah, I guess so, but the more I think about this, the more the price point is starting to annoy me. Not only for a PC game, but for an MMO.
