Pre-ordered via Amazon, got my code, and entered it on the official site. Now I pray...pray that it runs on my PC (until I can get a new one next spring).

Woke up with the most intense muscle cramp of my life. My calf literally felt like the muscles were made of concrete and it felt like what I imagine being stabbed with a knife feels like. The only difference between last night and every other night is that I used Origin. Coincidence?

And I quote:

" As anticipation grows, BioWare also proudly announced today that Star Wars: The Old Republic will open “Beta Test Weekends” starting this September. These weekend play sessions will be open to selected players worldwide and create an opportunity for fans to get a sneak peek of the epic stories, worlds, quests, battles and characters in the game. Please visit www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com to register for game testing and to stay tuned throughout the summer for more details as they become available."

Say whaaaaaaa?

There goes my launch in September guess. Well, late September is still somewhat plausible.

Suppose that depends on how many weekends they use. It can still launch in September. Now, how about some more closed beta invites BW?

I can't believe people are okay with being charged the full price right now for a pre-order. Origin sounds like a great distribution platform...

It must be because I bought almost nothing in the Steam sale. I already own everything.

Steam does it too.

Amazon's order confirmation email has 20th October as the release date....

Shit happens I guess. I'm not okay being charged all up front because of their site stating something completely different. However since I am prepared for the full payment, I just shrug it off and move on. Still, pretty shady. Thought that's my first and last purchase through Origin.

$150 for the CE? No thank you, I don't need yet another statue/figure collecting dust. If they had a version without the statue for say, $80 I would bite. So, Standard Edition ordered through Amazon, pre-order code received and activated.

posted?

Saw this on Slickdeals, posted from the Amazon product discussion page:

Amazon said:
Someone contacted Customer Support earlier this morning on the SW:TOR General Discussion forums:

"For those who have pre-ordered the Base Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, Head Start access will begin three days prior to the release of the game.

For people who have pre-ordered the Collector's Edition, the Head Start access will begin seven days before the game's official release.

Head Start will end on the day that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is released. However, as a courtesy to our pre-order customers, you will be given an additional five days after the game's launch to purchase Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ and redeem a game code.

If there is a delay in entering your code due to your retailer being unable to provide one immediately, it will not affect your entitlements as outlined above."

So wait, is that essentially saying that we can keep playing five days past the release date with the early access codes?

I currently have the 2-day shipping set on mine and I really don't want to pay even more for the game to get here on launch day.

Um...your favorite e-tailer probably does it too.

I don't think this game is region locked. As per say by Reid himself.

Regional locks or not, I'd have thought if you're in an 'unsupported region' when the game launches you might have trouble setting up an actual game account? Usually despite the free month bundled with it, MMOs want you to give them your billing details so they can collect their monthly pound of flesh after your trial ends, and I could easily see them locking out the filthy undesirables from those regions that way.

I wonder which definition of 'worldwide' they're using. :(

So this Early Start business means basically every version is digitally distributed if you so choose to participate..?

Well that's what I'm confused about. You get an Early Access code that lets you download the client early (effectively DD) but it seems there's a separate retail code which you need to put in (from your box) on the day of the game's launch.

For those asking, Czar and myself were actually talking about moving the US guilds to PVP since a lot of you have been asking about it. We will be discussing it a bit more as we get closer to launch.

Good to know, I would love to play with some GAF members but I would definitely have to be on a PVP server. People should feel my wrath when I'm angry!

You'll see a big drop off in members in doing this. =/

HRmm ... if a lot of GAF members are only PVE I don't see the need for the switch, I'm sure the few of us looking for a PVP server would be fine. I just don't understand the reasoning against it .. but that's a new thread and another topic entirely.

Basically you get early access (Amazon already sent me it and I registered it) so you get X days before the launch. After the game officially launches you get 5 days according to that post AFTER the official launch to input your actual game code from the retail box. So you really get X+5 days of "free" access.

I'll probably wait until it prompts me then enter the retail code (I have 2 day shipping) so an extra 3 days, while minuscule, is still 3 days!

That's the way I read it.

It makes sense too, since basically nobody would order it on Amazon if you had to stop playing for a couple days from when early access ended and you received your copy in the mail.

people would just order from a DD service.

You're not confused. That is how it works. More specifically the code will either be on the manual or a card in the box...but once you get your boxed version all you'll need to do is enter the serial into your account and then you can keep playing. You won't ever have to even touch your discs.

Crap I can't believe they actually started these pre-orders at midnight. O well the head start thing was not that big a deal to me.
Until the week before when I could have been playing arrives

Beta test weekends? Selected users? Ugh, come on. I hope that selected users means pre-orders rather than people picked completely at random.

Newsflash. I preordered RAGE, Dead Island, and Warhammer 40K Space Marine on Steam yesterday and got fully charged for all of them.

We're still talking about it so no big deal right now. Just wanted to bring it up since everyone was discussing it.

Question for you all. I got the digital ce via Origin and put in my code over at swtor.com but I ended up going with the CE from Amazon. How would I go about updating my account with the code? Saw no way to do it.

Yeah I really hope it's people that pre-ordered the game and not randoms.

I'd like this, the only reason I haven't committed to joining a GAF guild is because I want to go on a PVP server.

Even more reason not show you the game before it is too late!

Won't matter either way. This will probably their stress test. They will let in us many people as possible and then some.

I've said this before but I'll say it again because it came up again. I'm pretty casual when it comes to MMOs and I'm pretty new to them too but I fully support us being on a PvP server.

So I got my pre-order in for the collectors *150 OMG* from Amazon. I even got the email with the code. But now when I goto register it on SWTOR it tells me the code has already been used. Am I the only one getting that issue?

I have already read through there FAQ and contacted Amazon they are "looking into it".

This is so frustrating.

Just wondering, but why do you think you have to actually update the code?

I just got my code from pre-ordering via Amazon for the CE, and was able to punch it in just fine. Sorry dude, maybe Amazon can give you a different code.
