so you can buy a US/EU retail box, then play on a US/EU server. The only thing locked is buying digital copies.

No, it might be. People have been asking Bioware on the forums and they won't give a clear answer at the moment so people are going ape shit.

Better let you have true neutral abilities too motherfucker!

OK so I guess it saying what type of copy you ordered isn't really an issue. Weird they would differentiate though.

I'm going to go apeshit as I'm going to be overseas this fall and want to play at launch with my US friends.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I immediately preordered the CE the second it went live on Origin. A little while later, the CE showed up on Amazon; figured with no tax and $2.99 next day shipping, it was the much better deal. So, I ordered that.

The next morning, I see that I have a $170 hold on my account. What?! EA specifically said I WOULD NOT BE CHARGED until the game shipped. It was right there on the order page. Well, they pull a hold on your account for the full amount. Now, I don't care if that a hold is not the same as EA getting the money. The fact of the matter is; because of EA, I don't have access to $170 of my money, when at no point did they allude to the idea they would basically "check to see if my account is legit."

So, I canceled the order via phone support a few minutes later that day. No big deal. Guy was helpful. Said it might take a few days for the charge to clear. I know they always blame the bank; but I've *NEVER* in almost eight years had a hold on this checking account for more than 48 hours. Welp, now I do! :/

But NOW, I just saw they charged me the $20 preorder price, ontop of the $170 hold, two days AFTER I canceled.

Basically, EA said they would take $20 out of my account if I preordered. I currently don't have access to $190 of my cash.... and my order was canceled over 24 hours ago, and I got a cancellation email.

FAST EDIT: And before someone tries to make a smart*** comment about money, know that I have the cash to cover my bills. I'm more mad about the principle of it.

SWTOR Preorder FAQ said:
Yes, it will be possible to play on the same server as your friends. Any player of Star Wars: The Old Republic can choose to play on any server. However, if you choose to play on a server outside of your own region (i.e., – playing on European servers from North America, and vice versa), because of natural latency caused by the distance between your client and the game servers, you may find your game performance is impacted.

Is pretty clear to me. But it wasn't 100% and Rockjaw was still looking into it. I think people will go apeshit if they cancel that plan. I think many planned to play on certain region and ended up buying the game from another region.

Canceled my SE and got the CE. Thanks to everyone who posted their email responses.

Glad to help a fellow gaffer.

I am sure Amazon will offer a release date delivery for .99c soon before the release of the game like the rest of the pre-order games they have been selling.

Has anyone got their pre-order codes from origin.com yet?

I ordered about 48 hours ago, but I didn't get my confirmation email yet.

Doesn't it need origin to play though? And currently, origin is region locking even pre-ordering the game.

I thought origin is only required for direct download version. And for early start. Also Origin is merely download manager I thinks, and seeing that SWTOR.com accounts are separate from EA accounts atm, I'd expect that Origin regionlock wouldn't have much effect.

Origin doesn't need to be running, as of now. Who knows, they could pull some shit & say different later. Word now is, it's just a store.

Origin in its current form is just a storefront. You can launch your games through it but you don't have to. If you buy a retail box from the U.S. you should be able to play just fine overseas.

What the shit? Vibroblades over Lightsabers?

Currently there are no level brackets for warzones and players of any level can end up in the same warzone (with lower level players getting stat boosts to even the field). This is probably in place to allow reasonable wait times in spite of the current low beta population.

The Jedi with two vibroblades could be as low as level 10 to be able to dual wield. So maybe he does not have any lightsaber yet. She really does look like a lower level character. Notice how she does not wear any kind of armor or plating, no hood or cloak and pretty light vestments in general, although she is clearly a Jedi Sentinel (dual wield).

To clarify: I am not in the Beta - this stuff has been mentioned in Interviews/Q&As and/or leaked.

Got them about 5 minutes after I pre-ordered. That was about 15 minutes after the pre-order went live. I live in the Netherlands btw.

In the e-mail, they say it is "no longer an issue," so I would assume they meant for it to be a factor, but after getting so many calls and e-mails, they gave up on that. That seems to make the most sense to me.

No problem. Since I downgraded, remember that I will look upon your mouse droid with burning anger. Seriously, that was 90% of the reason I wanted the CE.

Pretty sure double bladed lightsabers were a Sorc/Sage weapon before. I remember something along the line of "Double bladed lightsabers are out staffs". Currently Sorcs and Sages use a single standard lightsaber and only Shadows and Assassins can use a double bladed saber (confirmed by people playing at conventions and beta players).

Before a couple days ago I was somewhat interested in the game, just checking in once and while to see how things were going but now that I preordered the game, I've got myself all excited. Are any Star Wars books recommended for the release of this game? I'm also probably going start a KOTOR play through. I already took the time to get the game running on Win 7 64bit with the widescreen 1920x1080 mod.

TOR related SW books or SW books generally?
If TOR related: SWTOR: Deceived. Explains Malgus' motives, though otherwise not very interesting, IMO. Fatal Alliance was bad, the story didn't seem to be related to TOR at all, except for the setting.

Me too, but it would crash every time an FMV cutscene came on and I ended up trapped on that shady salvage trader's ship, unable to leave >_<

I'm going to have to square screen it, I guess.

Fatal Alliance, and Deceived are out. Revan comes out soon. And a dark horse comic series is on issue 2 I think.

Yeah I was hoping for books set in the same period, but they don't sound too highly recommended.

I played through the Endar Spire escape portion and the FMV played fine for me, so hopefully I can play through the game relatively smoothly.

Deceived was all right, your standard SW novel. It is set around the Deceived trailer (surprise surprise) and details the destruction of Jedi Temple. And bunch of other stuff. Malgus is good character (IMO ofc) and the book details his motives. Remember that he is an important character in TOR, regardless of faction and class (AFAIK).
I do recommend reading it, even if the rest of the characters are forgettable.

Fatal Alliance is not good IMO. The Sith Empire and the Republic are squabling about some boring technology and naturally the Sith and Jedi are involved too. The name's fitting by the way. I think the book had too many characters, they don't have depth, they aren't shown (yet, maybe they're in-game?) in other media...
Maybe TOR will change my mind, if there's enough something that links FA to TOR, i mean really links other than the setting.

Dammit, i'd like to play a Sith Assassin but i don't like robes on them. And somehow Jedi Shadow doesn't appeal at all (maybe it's story will be good). Force push (project) what else? I want something cool.
I guess i'll start with Trooper. Or maybe Jedi Knight. Starting with Republic class because i joined euro NeoGAF guild.

So, I did get my confirmation email from my order but I didn't get a serial number in that email.
It says on the bottom that your pre order code is listed as serial number in your receipt, but I can't find any.
I paid by credit card, should it show up on my credit card bill?
Because it hasn't been charged yet either.

Hope something didn't go wrong :/

Not too impressed with the fact the early access is based when you acivate your code, im buying the collectors edition and still not received a code from Game, not even a mention on there site there is a code or when i'll be getting it.

Might just cancel and get the standard edition if they are going to stiff me...

Apparently, Bioware won't even confirm if people outside US and Europe can even play because the game has been region locked. That's fucking bullshit. I was working on the OT for this too but if I can't even fucking play the game, should I even bother?

North America you mean. Canada /= US

Deceived is good. It's a simple story and kind of short, but was entertaining with excellent lightsaber combat captured in print. Fatal Alliance was really long and drawn out.

I'm kinda confused now, here is the situation.

I live in the Netherlands (Europe) and i pre-ordered the Collectors Edition on Amazon.com (USA). I can play on the Europe servers with that version right ?

Only ORIGIN is region locked right ?

Thanks

I hate the look of the gigantic Mech armors of the high level Sith Warrior. I hope there will be end game armor that isn't that bulky and huge.

I think most of the bulk comes from your character. Pick a normal sized dude, and it won't be much of a problem.

Not to sound like an asshole, but wouldn't servers that aren't locked by region make PVP almost impossible? I don't want it to be a lagfest. I hope the game comes out at the same time in all regions, but has region locked servers. I hate it for anyone who wants to play with people across regions, but I can't see PVP against someone from Australia working out.

That's why they're warning that the performance won't be ideal for those playing overseas. And no there shouldn't be regionlocked servers. If the servers are decent the lag from EU to US is around 150ms. And that's just fine for pvp.

I will just say I had a very similar problem, even though I had been following the steam forum's full advice on how to get it working in win 7. Now here is the good news after about 5 tries it just worked. LoL

There weren't Oceania servers in WoW for ages. They had to play in US servers.

And even then they were only oceanic in that they were set to AEST. The servers themselves were still located in the States.
