Holy shit did someone try to say Mages have always been a good class in WoW? They were a fucking joke for over an entire expansion to the point the only way a Mage was raiding is because he was well liked in a guild
Didn't they have some useful elemental attacks for some raids early on? The biggest annoyance from my recollection was mages who didn't know how to slow their roll and kept pulling aggro.

I quit vanilla WoW after hitting 60, all my RL friends and members of our casual guild decided to join hardcore raiding guilds and I didn't have the time the guilds were demanding.

So if CE has a week head start, wouldn't that mean you could download and have access to the client a week beforehand? You wouldn't be reliant on the shipping of your physical package.

Exactly. They also give you a bonus of 5 days after the release date to activate your physical copy.

Also which edition you have doesn't matter regarding the headdress. What matters is when you redeem your preorder code.

You can apply for the beta by going here: http://www.swtor.com/tester

The next step is to check your e-mail every day to see if you get in. The beta is currently down to get ready for the next build.

Cool. Ran the gambit, but have one concern. When I let it scan for my PC specs, the videocard result didn't bring back an ATI Radeon 5870. It just said some generic ATI video display or something to that accord.

I'm worried that might not get me picked, even though I have a great rig to run this at max.

Weird. You can try running the scanner again through another browser. Never had that happen to me before though.

Is there a site or something that can help me understand the "roles" of the classes better? tank, dps, healer, etc. I have been trying to stay dark on a lot of info but checking the site today has left me a bit confused. I see there are four jedi's (including AC's...but how are they different?)

That's just the generic code for the 5800 series.

You have to read between the lines a bit, but the info you are looking for is there.

Here's the page for class information: http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes
If you want to learn more about advanced classes, this page should do it for you: http://www.swtor.com/info/systems/advanced-classes

Okay, so they should be aware of it then and have nothing to worry about.

Excited to play this before release. I'm still looking for a MMO to fill the void that FF14 was supposed to, and right now the ones on my radar are this, Guild Wars 2, TERA, and PSO 2.

I can't even login to Origin or my EA profile on ea.com/profile

Edit: Any PvP EST guilds around? I saw the GMT one but I am not quite sure how the time difference will affect everything.

Joke post? Mages never "sucked" in WoW since before spell power was in the game. They were the best DPS in the game in Naxx and AQ, and top 3 in BWL. The reason so many mage sucked in BC (the expansion you are talking about), is because they A) demanded on staying pure Fire and B) didn't know shit about min-maxing or theory-crafting and had to get used to it. Any mage who was min-maxing prior to BC; when the only place to go to theorycraft about your class was worldofraids which was an IRC channel (pre-nax) did well. Were they OP like Hunters and Destro locks in BC? No, but they could get top 3 easily. Wotlk was obviously, dominated by mages, and so far in Cata Mages are once again back at the top. They started out a bit slow until they quickly acquired gear from the joke raids and dominated hard-modes.

Because it's more fun to play a warlock for that person? Just because WoW offers race, gender, faction, server changes, etc doesn't mean they are all homogenized. If Bioware all of a sudden put a real dollar amount on that ACrespec, would it be fine then? We don't even have the specific details, so how can we complain about our own internal speculation?

Edit: The argument that they will just let one class be unbalanced because the counterpart AC is balanced is beyond ridiculous.

I am not talking for casual players, I am talking for competitive. I would never, ever, recruit a class that brought nothing to my raid a different, superior class couldn't provide. It would make no sense at all. Now if that weaker class had a buff, or some type of advantage the other didn't, I would bring them. At this present time, that is not had SWTOR is designed.

I don't think you understand how the game works. I never said they are going to let one class be "unbalanced" (show me an MMO where thats not the case btw). I said they are going to treat Advance Classes like tree's instead of classes. If a Smuggler can hop between Gunslinger and Scoundrel, why would they try to balance Scoundrel DPS and Gunslinger DPS, when they can just make Scoundrel dedicated to healing? Thus taking away variety.

Why do I think this? Because it was already starting to happen before beta went down. By the end of this beta, good luck getting into a group if you were a Smuggler that didn't heal, or a Sith Warrior that didn't tank.

Anyway, I will wait and see how they implement it. From what I heard today, you may not be able to hop back and forth (maybe a set number of respecs). I can only hope.

With my friends whom I'm going to play with, we still can't decide what side we're going to play on.

I think we're going Republic however.

If that's the case, then my character is going to be Jedi Knight -> Jedi Sentinel.

If I'm playing Empire, then I'm going Sith Inquisitor - > Sith Assassin.

What's stopping those who preordered who have registered their code and cdkey, but canceled their preorder from being able to play with that version when the game comes out? Smells a lot like "left hand doesn't see what the right is doing" sort of a situation?

Man, I was really wanting to get in on the preorder, but I can't justify the price right now.

Had it been $5 for preorder and the rest when it ships, I'd be down. Dang upcoming wedding, took all my monies!

Amazon charges nothing until it ships, Origins 5$ up front.

Origin will fully charge you, plus that $5 on top of it.

Amazon doesn't.

Yeah, luckily I read that before I preordered. I'll go through Amazon.

Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. I just wanted to let anyone know that because I order through Origin and got charged for 174 for the Collector's Edition instantly. I ended up cancelling that and going with Amazon.

Actually that's not true, Origin only charges the pre-order fee not the whole item (I know from my own personal pre-order). I believe the initial charge you see on your account is to verify your account is valid and has the proper funds.

That's preauthorization, where they verify that you have enough money in your account. All but the $5 preorder gets refunded within a couple days.

"Why is my credit card authorized for the full game amount?

Please note that you will only be paying a deposit for the game when ordering for the official pre-order program. You will not need to pay the full amount until you obtain your physical copy of the game. This should apply to both physical retailers, and online retailers. Please be advised that if you order through the Origin Online Store, your credit card will be authorized for the full amount of the purchase price, but rest assured that when the transaction is processed you are only charged the actual pre-order fee."

This is a pretty common thing.

So wait, if I pre-order right now off Amazon, I could get a code to start playing it right now, or?
No, the code is for early access, which happens days before retail launch. Amazon sends the code nearly instantly after preordering, and origin may take slightly longer. People want the code quickly because pre-access start time is first come first served so getting the code quickly is beneficial.

No. Early Access starts right before the game launches.

Okay, good deal. Hope I get an email then in the coming weeks, because once late August and onward hits I'll be more hard pressed to devote time to try it out. :(
