Why? The character creation isn't particularly varied.
Some people like to customize their character and spend some time doing so, while still retaining their names for the characters, so they won't get snatched up in the initial rush of Early Access.

I immediately preordered the CE the second it went live on Origin. A little while later, the CE showed up on Amazon; figured with no tax and $2.99 next day shipping, it was the much better deal. So, I ordered that.

The next morning, I see that I have a $170 hold on my account. What?! EA specifically said I WOULD NOT BE CHARGED until the game shipped. It was right there on the order page. Well, they pull a hold on your account for the full amount. Now, I don't care if that a hold is not the same as EA getting the money. The fact of the matter is; because of EA, I don't have access to $170 of my money, when at no point did they allude to the idea they would basically "check to see if my account is legit."

So, I canceled the order via phone support a few minutes later that day. No big deal. Guy was helpful. Said it might take a few days for the charge to clear. I know they always blame the bank; but I've *NEVER* in almost eight years had a hold on this checking account for more than 48 hours. Welp, now I do! :/

But NOW, I just saw they charged me the $20 preorder price, ontop of the $170 hold, two days AFTER I canceled.

Basically, EA said they would take $20 out of my account if I preordered. I currently don't have access to $190 of my cash.... and my order was canceled over 24 hours ago, and I got a cancellation email.

FAST EDIT: And before someone tries to make a smart*** comment about money, know that I have the cash to cover my bills. I'm more mad about the principle of it.

You could have just waited a few days for the hold to clear and then that $170 would be available again. If you cancelled on principle then I guess that is your choice, but it doesn't seem like a big deal.

Does anyone know if they are still accepting people in to be testers? I just created an account and did the system scan and all that. I loved kotor 1 and 2, and I really want to try this but I dont want to pre-order the game if I dont have to.

Yes they are still accepting people.

Exactly, also I've noticed during a lot of beta events that if you spend a particularly long time making your character, there is a possibility to get disconnected and lose all your customization due to high volumes of people trying to get on. I particularly remember this when I played the Champions Online beta...now THAT was frustrating, considering the amounts of customization.

They're still accepting people but not like you'd expect. This isn't a full-out huge beta like other games, the testing community is small and focused. Don't think that because you sign up to test that you'll be accepted. I've been signed up to test since 2008. Still not in beta.

Also, if you have any desire to play at all I would pre-order. They're artificially limiting stock at launch to (hopefully) ensure server stability. If you don't pre-order or manage to snag a retail copy at launch you'll be waiting a few weeks until you can get in.

Thanks for the info, I guess I will pre-order then.

Impressive since beta signups didn't open until Sept 2009.

I forgot all about the Space Combat this game has!

it's just a mini game at launch (something to do on the side for xp & credits, upgrade your ships weapons & shit).

We can all dream what kind of shit they can add to it later on.

The hold cleared and I got my $85 back :) But...

Still no digital CE. Time to contact support!

I hope someone sees my Origin username and adds me so I can be friends and never talk to them because Origin is dumb lololol

Damn. Got my pre-order at GameStop Canada but they don't have early access keys yet. Said they would have them within a week or so. Lame.

Wow, I got immediate buyers remorse after pre-ordering the CE from Amazon.

Ya I looked at the CE and I knew that it wasn't really worth anything. I don't give a damn about the figure they're including (the reason it's $150 is the figure too lol) and nothing else they are adding appeals to me. I saved about $100 going with regular edition. Don't see the point of the CE unless I was never going to open it and then sell it at a later date (like 10 years from now) for hundreds.

euuuuuwug. They might not have the keys at that rate. If you ordered SE you should be fine though.

Hopefully the space battles is like Star Wars: Rogue Leader. It was my first Gamecube game and the game looked awesome and was fun to play.

This guy's points are put across in a boring manner, however, they do seem somewhat interesting (in concept). Hope healing is improved, was thinking about going healing Smuggler. Might go healing Jedi instead, can imagine force heals look cooler.

I like that redrancor guy. Yea, boring delivery, but he's a fan, and puts in the effort. Kudos to that guy. None of the beta leakers have really bitched about healing much, so I don't think it's a problem. Not like the dude in the video even played the game yet, just observing. Could be right, could be wrong, who knows.

Yeah, he had some good observations and points, but would never want him hosting a show! Just watching a few flashpoint videos on youtube, and most of them seem really plain/boring at the moment. Not sure how hold the footage is, but there's no real big 'SPECIAL MOVE' moment (if that makes sense).

Link to my chat with Origin support
Seems like I can just cancel the Amazon order and I have the digital CE tied to my account. I guess. Really wish this had just been on Steam so all of this would have been avoided. But now that I'm reasonably sure my account is in order my hype is returning.

never heard about the cat, apparently
hopefully they implement a tie fighter/x-wing type space combat eventually. I never played galaxies long enough to mess around with the space combat in the expansion but from the videos it looks like it was awesome.

If they put in real space combat and exploration you'd never see me shoreside again. I don't know why I don't just sub to EVE Online.

Eventually, I'm hoping I can play a Force Sensitive Ewok. Or a Manic Depressive Droid with an addiction to wearing wigs.

i played a free trial of eve online awhile back, got bored of it quick.

Yeah, I keep trying to get into it, but there's just too much of a time sink required before you can even attempt to look at any action. They've changed it up and made it new user friendly, but I've no idea if its any better (as I haven't tried it).

So you can't fly from planet to planet and go lightspeed?
You do, but you just pick a destination and then it goes lightspeed and you're there. You only take manual control in the Star Fox minigame.

In one of the q&a's they said they had the shit setup like FFXI, the 4 minute airhsip rides to the main cities. So you would be in hyperspace for like 5 minutes then pop up. But they thought that was shit so they made it instant :p.

OK, the Crew Skills concept sounds good.

It does, doesn't it? I hope there are some cool little stories / infobytes that come about when you send your companion off on some diplomacy mission or what have you. Maybe that's asking a bit much, though...
