If you preorder the game via amazon (physical copy), how does the early game access work? Will I still be able to play the game prior to release, even if I don't have the box in hand?
Yeah, you receive an email with a download link.

Yes. You download the client from EA somehow. You don't even need the boxed copy on release. You have 5 days after release to enter the code from the game in case Amazon doesn't ship it to you on time.

I ordered a physical copy, and registered my code, and noticed the game was 'there' within my Origin Account when downloading another game recently. So, I'm guessing, it'll be via Origin.

I think the argument that you don't play on a PVP server because "my time is valuable", is a complete load of shit. Everyone's time is valuable. That insinuates that rolling on a PVP server, and competing against other players while leveling is a waste of time. It isn't.

That's only one of the reasons, in addition to many others.

You have to download it from Origin. There's no download link from Amazon.

Being killed by gankers 10-75 levels higher than myself for hours on end preventing me from advancing my character is something I consider a waste of my time. I wouldn't exactly call that competition either. Nowhere did I say that PvP or competition isn't fun. I don't consider ganking competiton or PvP though - to me that's just people playing out their own god-complex and being a doucebag. Why else does someone want to harass and impede players who literally have no recourse against them? "Others did it to me when I was low level!" isn't a good reason. As I said before, once the game mechanics make retaliation literally impossible, IMO, all fun has gone out the window for me.

But hey, if you like having to deal with the hazards of squads of invincible assholes roaming your newbie lands, then it's clearly not a waste of time for you. You're (probably?) having fun with it.

I think the funniest part of the 'my time is valuable' argument is that you're making it sound like it's more than a game. You're playing to have fun, you can have fun without 'getting anything done', or at least I can. Don't want to be ganked? Roll on a PvE server, problem solved.

I heard some people say that low-level ganking isn't as tolerated in SWTOR as it was in a game like WoW anyway, so that should make most of you happy. Though, it was pretty hard to get legitimately 'camped' in WoW, it was really easy to get away. Most of the time when I ganked lower-level players it was simply a passing-by thing or an attempt to draw out higher level players. I have to say though... if you were telling the people camping you that they had no life then it really only encourages them to continue camping you.

On PVE servers we always used lower levels as bait to activate other people's PVP tag. hehe. I preferred PVP server for what its worth. Nothing more annoying than watching an enemy playing mop up all the crafting materials, and not being able to do anything about it.

Some people have fun by questing. Some people have fun by exploring. Some people have fun by socializing. Some people have fun by knowing they are in hostile territory and can be killed on sight. Everyone plays the game for different reasons so it's a bit silly to say someone's argument is invalid because they don't play the game for the same reasons you do.

Yep, almost instantly actually. It's pretty awesome. I pre-ordered day 1 at GameStop and I still didn't get a code, nor am I apparently guaranteed to get one. F GameStop. That's the last time I put another cent into that place.

No shit sherlock. That's kinda what we are doing buddy. If you read the damn thread you'd realize that we are posting our arguments as to WHY we want to roll PVE.

My idea of fun isn't to get ganked. If it wastes 10 minutes of my time, that's too much. Sorry, but when you grow up and have 3 hours or less a week to play games, you might understand. After all, if progression wasn't important and fun, MMO's wouldn't exist.

Some people's time is more valuable to them than others. Surely you can acknowledge that high school students/post secondary students that don't have jobs have a LOT more free time than full time working adults/students in postsecondary w/ work at the same time? Value is ultimately measured based on scarcity, and my time is quite scarce.

I don't think "my time is valuable" makes it sound like more than a game. That's precisely what I mean - it IS a game, and if it's not fun, it's a waste of my time. I don't have fun when someone is playing out their God-complex and preventing me from getting anything done. I already mentioned rolling on a PvE server pages back - I'm saying why I don't roll on PvP servers anymore.

I realize, I saw the server list. Why are you acting so offended? I honestly don't care.. I was just responding to the 'my time is valuable' thing and how it is a pretty goofy argument. It would be better argument to just say "I don't like PvP" or world PvP in this case.

But I do like PVP, just not when I'm getting steamrolled by somebody 20 levels above me. There is a difference between PVP and getting ganked. In SWTOR, there is going to be an entire world that is PVP even on PVE servers, so that's where I will go when I want to PVP.

Edit: Ah nice, ninja edit. World PVP is only fun when there is some semblance of balance. I wouldn't exactly call getting rolled when you're outmanned/leveled/geared real PVP.

BTW, I wasn't offended. The way you posted just seemed like you only read the last page and didn't understand what we were arguing for. I'm not arguing against PVP servers. I'm saying there are legit reasons to not want to go on one.

Yeah, it's cool. Some people like the more controlled PvP and some people like the hectic world stuff, even if that means you can get ganked by people 10+ levels higher. It's all preference, I agree.

People treat MMOs very seriously in my experience, much more so than any other kind of game, so the communities get really volatile over these sorts of things.

2 questions, have they set a release date yet? and I have a dell xps m1530 laptop about 2 1/2 - 3 years old now, should I be able to play this fine?

What are the specs? Assuming it's not terrible you might be able to play. No release date but it's most likely October. No later than early November.

got2bekidding said:
I knew someone was waiting on a smuggler vid. Sucks it's not the AC you are planning to play.
I'm not really surprised. Smugglers are the least popular class of the least popular faction. And the Scoundrel will probably be the least popular AC.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40 GHz processor, 3 GB ram, Graphics card is Nvida Geforce 8600M Gt 1520 MB, its getting old and it was for school so I won't be surprised if I'd have to upgrade or play on the lowest settings, thanks for the info

You should be fine. My Macbook Pro has the same processor and a Geforce 9600M GT 1024MB (a slight upgrade from yours) and could run Bad Company 2 on low settings.

Because a few pages back somebody popped into the thread waving their PvP superiority ePeen. Something along the lines that its shameful that more Gaffers weren't rolling on PvP servers. That's what started this whole shit. Anyway.. I've said my peace and I'm done talking about it. Time to move on to something else about the game.

Sweet I haven't played an MMO since I quit WoW about 3 years ago, and I'd really like to try another one, seeing as WoW was some of the most fun gaming I've ever had, and this looks like the perfect time to jump back into the MMO world.

The guy playing makes those videos unwatchable for me. Everything he does takes fucking ages, after killing one enemy it's like he needs a break to process who to kill next, and the dude clicks on every single ability, who does that, seriously...

Ignoring the fact that the guy plays the game like he's never touched an mmo/rpg before. The videos are pretty boring imo. I'm just not able to get excited by watching all these videos of characters under lvl 15 killing equally low level mobs. Wtb high lvl flashpoint videos please.

I didn't say they are great. I said they are there. Most of the vids released are recorded by people who play terrible. You take what you get with leaks. As far as using every ability, yeah I'm sure it makes killing mobs more difficult since you aren't using the right rotations, but it's nice seeing the different abilities and their animations.

The game definitely doesn't look finished, but it's looking pretty damn good. Can't wait until the next build comes out to see the difference.

Positive I'll be able to run this, but with my 1.86 ghz Core 2 Duo, I think I know why I'm not going to get a beta invite.

How did you chose Scoundrel? I just can't decide yet. Luckily, I don't have to.

No no, I know. Was just giving my thoughts on the videos after watching them :)

Yeah, there are bunch of people on BetaCake's Facebook page ranting about why "clickers" are getting let into beta and how terribad they are.

Most of the videos that we've seen from any source are all from characters under level 20. I have a feeling that all the higher-level beta players don't want to risk having their beta accounts cancelled by releasing gameplay at higher levels. It would be nice to see high-level players wrecking some shit will full talented specs and abilities.

I don't know. I just did. It took me a really long time and I'm still not even sure how the Scrapper tree even works but I'm just going to play it and learn to love it if it's not what I'm expecting.

I feel the same way.

Strangely enough, whenever I don't get into testing a game early, every media getting published looks like everyone who gets in before me is an incredibly slow clicker and a below average or just downright terrible player. Maybe people that leak stuff are just terrible players by default.

I feel like the way combat works in SWTOR (not relying on auto-attacks) these extremely sluggish players are even more painful to watch.

The official media that's published uses clicking instead of keybinds b/c its easier for people watching the demonstrations to follow what's going on.

You have to remember too as an unfinished game, things are changing, and people are unexperienced and the optimal rotations and action ordering hasn't been figured out and widely spread. I'm sure some of these leaked videos are people playing the class for the first time, and I are missing some key skills and abilities at such a low level. Think about the first 10 levels of WoW, especially way back in Vanilla. For example, Mages started out with Frost Armor and Fireball - that's it. Rogues started with only Sinister Strike and Eviscerate. Hunters didn't even start with a pet (and didn't get one until level 10!).

This sounds like someone who has read about what a PVP server is like, but never played on one. Or, played on one, had a single bad experience, and raged out, never do join another again.

What you described doesn't really happen. Higher level players don't patrol low level zones camping people for hours. Will you get ganked by a higher level player? Sure, occasionally. Mostly because they are passing by. In all my years playing MMO's, I would say 90 percent of the people I have been ganked by are similar level to myself.

There is nothing wrong with a PVE server, but dismissing PVP servers, and people who play on them and have fun, is fairly hilarious. I knew a player a lot like you, he rolled on a PVP server, got ganked, and basically flipped his shit and broke his keyboard.

All you really had to say was you will play on a PVE server because you don't like to be ganked. But instead you went on a tangent about it. I like to play on a PVP server so I can A) kill the players I don't like and B) kill any opposing faction player that is taking my mobs. I don't go and camp low levels. But if you are my level, and fighting in an area where I need mobs, then I will kill you and camp you until I finish my quest. Simple as that.

So what do you guys think the system specs will end up comparing to? I think this game looks very similar to Rift's engine, so if you can run rift, you can probably run Old Republic pretty smooth

I did say that - a page or two ago. I also never dismissed those who want to play on PvP servers. In fact I said the opposite. Go back and read what I wrote instead of hopping in for selective choice of messages. You can pretend you know about me and what I'm like and try to ascribe ridiculous motivations or ragequitting, but it's just pointless because you don't know me. I put in my time on PvP servers a decade ago (and for at ime in WoW), and I'm done with all of that.

Or the fact it's an awful game, that is designed like crap. If you have to reach to a game like DCUO to show high-level players just camp low level players all the time. Then I think it shows overall, it doesn't happen much.

Get off your high horse of MMO know it all geez. Game being awful has what to do with high levels ganking low level noobs in a specific MMO? It can and does happen in tons of MMO's, lets not act like it doesn't. All we got is hyperbole all over the place here being spewed
