Online people generally are often not the same people who play DnD style RP. They think RP means sexy times.

I'm very old school pen and paper roleplayer, and the last time I tried to join a RP guild in WoW.... yikes. Many peoples idea of RP is really screwy

Kotor 2 was increidbly unfinished and buggy but also the dialogue system was a huge exercise in frustration as it felt incredibly random what would raise or lower your influence with the companions. It was doubly infuriating as a lot of lore and mechanics were locked behind how much influence you had.

Found your problem

But seriously, yes, the internet is full of weirdos. You just have to filter them out.

What exactly is RP in the context of an MMO? I only hear about the weird stuff.

Thats pretty much it for most :p

Realistically it's supposed to be actually playing out your character as if you lived in the world of the MMO. You use real character names, not stuff like NunPuncherXXX69. All talking with players is done in character while trying to interact with the world as if you were part of it and not playing a game. In essence trying to capture the pen and paper real life roleplay feel but it often comes off weird in an online environment especially in a world MMO where it's filled with silly things going on from other player who are not role playing.

I just find it weird since both the various shard of UO i played (mytharria, tsse etc) and the wow rp server was mostly dnd style rping. I am not saying there weren't people like the posts above but if they were they were a tiny minority. Didn't see anyone myself or any of the people i played with (not enough to warrant a comment anyway).

Anyway i think that everyone playing an rpg rp's in one way or another and there is potential for some good rping in MMO's that help alleviate the boredom that sets in after you figure how the game works (which is usually the best part of the game, the beginning where everything is new).

This is pretty derailing though so i apologise for getting off the matter at hand (which is, noone is getting in the beta..).

Roleplaying in the realm of the game's setting and nothing else. It's stupid (I can't do it, just like I could never cyber without breaking out laughing)

Also KOTOR2's convos were fine, I never consulted a guide for them and I got them just fine, sounds like a personal problem.

RP in MMOs is easy. Just don't talk about weird real life stuff and you are full into it.

Yea as long as you aren't going LOL we pwnd those f00ls we are fucking rambo or something you are pretty safe in an rp server. It just helps with the immersion in the world. The bad thing in MM0's is that usually you have to ignore some game play mechanics because they make no sense (see death).

As promised, we have an update on the batch of Game Testing invites being sent to players in the EU.

After a lengthy discussion here at the BioWare offices, the decision has been made to postpone the proposed Game Testing invites for EU players for a number of reasons.

Firstly, there’s a new build of the game on the horizon. This is a major build, meaning there will be character wipes and a new client to download. As you may be aware, the current client download is around 27GB in size. If we were to invite players en masse today, those players would have to download the entirety of the client to access the game. There’s every chance that later this week, the service will go offline and this new version will be rolled out, meaning everyone currently in Testing will have to not only download the entire client again (another 27GB download), but will also have their characters erased and have to start afresh. This is a relatively large amount to download in such a short space of time and not an experience we want new testers to be exposed to.

Secondly, this new build will bring about the first localised versions of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which means those of you that speak French and German will have the chance to play the game in those languages, for the first time ever. We’re extremely excited to be able to offer this to our players and as such, we’re keen to get a lot of feedback from European testers in particular.

For those of you that may have missed the messages we put out on the subject already, last week saw a number of issues arise with key systems that prevented us from sending out invites to EU players. Had everything gone to plan, we would have been able to offer two weeks of testing time to new users. However, given the issues that arose, this was physically not possible.

So while we understand that this news may not be what a lot of you wanted to hear today, we hope that you’ll understand our position. Given the news of this new build, it’s now more important than ever that we invite European players into the Game Testing environments, so you have my word that this batch of invites will happen, it may just mean you just have to wait a little longer.

It’s also important to remember this is just the beginning. In the future, we’ll be inviting more and more testers to the EU Game Testing environments as well as future Game Testing weekends. So even if you’re not invited to this next round of testing, there will still be plenty of chances to get involved.

As ever, as soon as I get any firm news around the matter, I’ll make sure to update everyone.

Wait what? These guys are postponing European testing constantly?
And here i was thinking that maybe i won't be cancelling my pre-order after all.
Fuck that. I doubt this game will have proper EU testing and i have no interested playing this on laggy servers etc on day one.

EDIT also, weren't weekend tests supposed to be for Pre-orderers but the first one was across all testers, correct?

You guys really should be happy that it'll be on a new build. So what if there's one more week or two to wait? I know I'm happy there's a new build coming soon.

No, you're thinking of Early Access. Weekend tests have always been planned for everyone.

I'm pretty sure I've seen leaked beta footage in both French and German. So Bioware is full of shit.

I remember seeing videos that were in German. Not sure if those were beta or not.

Kinda funny they are so concerned about people having to download so much so wouldnt want europeans to download twice in 2 weeks yet they dont seem to mind having people download 30gigs for 3 days only

Wonder if new build is gonna impact invites this week. Since it will be pushed at the end of the week likely im guessing no weekend beta invites this week

They're gonna do character wipes soon? I haven't even finished chapter 1 yet. So what if there's already some max levels, wipe them instead

That's pretty weak, Bioware.

Not even a new ETA on anything. Just a "keep waiting, Europe!".

It's a beta. It's there for game testing purposes, not to satisfy people that think they have a right to play the game early. There's nothing weak about it tbh.

If they released the game in the US and still hadn't given an EU date, it might've been "weak". But as long we're talking about a beta, there's not really anything to complain about, at least not valid complaints.

Well since the US version won't be IP locked, any EU date would just be for whiny bitches who refuse to import.

I love you.

EDIT: And I miss my beta. Damn I wish I could see the new build! wah!

This thread is full of Americans who got to play the beta. I wonder if it would be the same tune getting sung if things where the other way around.

Shut up and play your Xenoblade.

I can easily import it, but then I won't buy it if it actually comes out here

Cool. Luckily I never claimed to want to play the game early or anything like that.

I'm from EU, I've not played one second of swtor. And I'll tell anyone, regardless of whether they're US or EU. That they're not entitled to a beta invite based on their location, signup number, bioware loyalty or whatever else kind of reason people can think up for deserving a beta invite.

The beta is not there to satisfy the players urge to play the game, but to let bioware test their game, so that when the game actually releases, it will be a good product.

People can feel free to want a beta invite as much as they want, that's fine. But to get pissy at bioware because they don't grant them a beta invite is dumb and annoying.

True, I guess you didn't actually write that, you're saying you don't want to play the beta then? Regardless, it's silly to say that what bioware is doing is "weak", just because it's not what people wanted. They're still in the testing phase of the game, things happen, things change.

What do you guys think? Any chance of weekend testers getting the new build? Or will it be limited to normal beta testers?
I would assume Bioware only has one build up and running publicly at any given time, but I don't know anything even as a beta tester. It'd be that much harder to keep track of bugs otherwise.

From what I remember, there are different builds out there. I even think weekenders are on an older build compared to regular testers (if anyone knows better than I, please correct me). I'm just wondering if they'll update the weekender's build since this newer build will be distributed.

re:RP

I joined a Stormtrooper RP guild in SWG. There was no sexy time that I saw, but I did quit the first time I had to transport a "prisoner", and then stand guard for an hour in a makeshift prison someone had made in their home.

I not only quit the guild, I quit the game.
