This is exactly the way I feel. It's especially hilarious when people say they will never pay $15 a month for a subscription MMO because they think it's too expensive then end up spending that or more per month on a F2P.

I also find most F2P MMOs to be trash, unless they started as subscription and switched over.

Guild Wars was*is a good example of an mmo that you only had to buy once, GW 2 will expand that and give players an open world like the one in most monthly subcription mmo´s.

It can be done with little to no added cost to the player beyond the first fee for the game.

LoL is far more simple than an mmo is, though I tend to agree with you in certain aspects of LoL's F2Play model. 20 dollars for a skin is fucking ridiculous but they do have other skins for like 5 dollars and they are purely aesthetic so you are not gimped gameplay wise if you do not buy the most expensive skin so I can't say I dislike it at all.

Aside from that, I have yet to see a decent MMO F2Play model. The deluge of MMO's that use F2Play are just not fun to play for more than a trial.

After having played LOTRO as a subscribed player (15$/month), they are one of the worst I have played. If you are subscribed you will pay 15$ a month and then still use the LOTRO store for end-game.

And then charging players for further content. Either way, they are getting more money out of players.

What? I played that on the f2p end, so there was a shitton of gated content, expected. But I would figure the subbed players would get everything. Not true?

I think DDO does it that way.

I think my problem with getting release day shipping is that now that the CE's are unavailable on Amazon's site, they took down the release day shipping as an option until they get more (which makes no sense in my case since I pre-ordered the shit in July, as soon as it became available for pre-order). I just never checked back when they announced the release date, retardedly so.

Shit, same problem here, though I'm leaning towards skipping the game anyway

One of the tips on the loading screen suggests using /who if you're looking for a group. Those likewise will have a purple icon.

not really too useful. everyone just spams chat

edit: not very useful because no one uses it. no idea if /who itself is decent

edit 2: started a new playthrough of KotOR because I want to actually beat it before SWTOR comes out. decided to actually play pazaak instead of skipping it like usual. i love it. if they don't add this in for an expansion i will shank some people.

Think I played the beta too much! Ended up dreaming about killing droids as my Sith Juggernaut. Maybe 30+ hours in three days was overkill lol

So you enjoyed it that much then?

Oh yes indeedy doodly. Seeing as I was waking up at 7am on a weekend to play (and watch F1 but that mostly got ignored), I think its safe to say I was hooked :)

Do you plan on buying it? and starting it all over again with the same class?

I played a Sith Inquisitor because i thought of playing a consular at release, so as not to spoil it. Thats the problem with beta's, especially long running "semi-public" ones like this, you end up playing so much that you wont have much incentive to play the release.

Man fuck. I enjoyed the hell outta Knights of the old Republic and this game is shaping up nicely.

but on the other hand i bought WoW and regret it. I don't know if i should cook in hells kitchen again.

Oh im definitely getting it, i have two preorders.

I played a Sith Jugg and a Scoundrel, two classes I won't play come release. I specifically chose classes I won't play at launch.

Did GAF have EU-Sith guild (PVP or PVE, i don't care. Now...)?
I think i joined the Republic EU guild but i think i want to play as a BH or either Sith first, preferrably with GAF.

Would be nice if neogaf had Jedi and Sith EU guilds.

You mean Jedi-classes and Sith-classes ONLY guilds?
No thanks. In my experience, single class/type guilds don't work even on RP servers.

Sorry, Empire and Republic, i keep thinking on the old Kotor mindset that the conflict is Sith versus Jedi. :)

The problem I have with betas like this is that you can easily spoil yourself for the final game. This more then others since it's so story heavy and a sequel to the KOTOR series. I've stopped after a few days in as I can't risk ruining the story and have no desire to go through things again once the game launches since carrying over characters isn't likely to happen.

You don't spoil much as long as you don't go crazy with getting as far as you can. Also best with betas especially this one is to play the class you are least likely to want to play when the game launches. I'm going trooper as my main at launch, so doing the Agent right now in beta as it was what least interested me. Keep everything fresh for the most part then come December as it's a completely different faction and class. I've only dabled a little in the begging of a few of the classes to just see how they start out and such, but only investing time in what I'm not going to play for a long time.

Though ironically I'm enjoying the heck out of the agents storyline and might end up going back to play when sooner than I though after launch.

I had fun with the beta. I made 4 characters to level 11 and liked them all. There are some minor annoying gripes like lack of a grouping channel and graphical glitches. This is the time though to solve those issues. I filled out maybe 20-30 bug reports and hopefully this will be a solid launch. My only worry is that there wull be too many Jedi/Sith running around and not enough Agents and Smugglers. I was in a few Flashpoints with only Sith Juggernauts or only Jedi Knights.

Didn't see such problems in beta and as has been said, the Jedi/Sith combos of Advanced classes and builds basically can satifsy all the needed roles in a MMO. A full group of Jedi or Sith can basically run an instance no problem as long as you got people doing the various roles.

You should let me play then ;)

What I did, if I go through with my plan is played as Republic in beta and I expect to play as the Empire at launch.

On the HK-47 i found there to be a general lack of Jedi Sage´s (healer's), not many shadow' (think jedi rogue), and a lot of knight's (tank's), trooper's (tank/dps), with an even assortment of other classes.

I think the fun factor of the ranged "laser" classes will add to a more even playing field in terms of force characters / everyone else. They (laser) are much more fun to play, and have some nice sound and gfx effects (my god the blaster sound effects are amazing).

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I'm not taking the "don't play what you plan to play at retail" thing too seriously. I'm mainly playing a BH now and I will still probably play a BH as my first char live, I may just go with the other advanced class.

Playing the opposite of what you intend to play in the retail version does sound like a good idea. Should give that a try.
I played the IA so the Smuggler story will be fresh and for the fun of noticing gameplay changes to the class. Also started a Trooper out of curiosity, since I plan that to be my first alt. Want moar.

That's what I did when I got into closed beta, played for a few weeks then uninstalled so I also didn't get burnt out. It's a must buy for me, had the CE preordered since it was announced.

Well playing agent because I didn't want to play it at first, but really liking it and want to see the rest of the story. Just don't like the idea of having to replay all I've done already again at launch. Figure if I play other classes and give it some time and perhaps some new features/content to come out, going back to agent down the line later will be easier to replay.

Spoiler-free lvl 17 Gunslinger gameplay

Reminds me of the FFXI rangers. biggest damage in the game (not saying it won't be balanced, just saying they put out the biggest numbers), not alot of moving around.

This will be my alt for sure. Sentinel & Gunslinger, pure damage, and no one can ask me to heal or tank. I'm lazy like that.

That's what I'm afraid of in this game. Sorcerors are always going to be asked to heal.

You mean in operations, and heroic flashpoints? Sure, until the populations stabilizes & people try out the healing specs of the BH/TR & SM/IA.

And you usually will only have to concentrate on healing during boss fights. Or a large pack of elites. Unless the hard modes really make the trinity pop out. We shall see.

Last night i did esseles (first republic "dungeon") with only a 3 person group, and no healer and tank. We had a jedi shadow (myself) at level 12, a commando at level 10 and a smugler, level 11. The smugler had his companion out.

We had no trouble, even on the boss fights. The only fight that we ended up going a person down was agaisnt the tractor beam generator droid boss.

The game is very forgiving in terms of class composition in groups, and healing.

Yea many have said that, but apparently it's only for the earlier flashpoints, and using companions in later ones does not work very well as you need actual players to handle the tougher parts. The later ones get much harder and you have to have dedicated trinity going to survive.

The first flashpoints are balanced for level 9. People fresh off the origin world, without their advanced class. The next flashpoint hopefully makes you use tactics heh.

Oh I'm still game :)

Just not frequenting this thread that often as of late. Studying is my priority at the moment. I'm checking the thread out from time to time as you can see though.

Sadly there isn't an Empire guild on the EU side yet (PvP at least). I'd love to see one formed though, we need some adversaries.

Just from watching the videos on this page, the ai needs some serious work. Enemies just let you kill the other enemies unless they are literally right next to each other. They don't seem to notice anything out of a very short range. Really makes the fights seem very boring.

Kill 40 blah blah blah.

Please tell me that's some sort of empty PQ.

Most kill X quests are bonus quests. You don't actually acquire the quests, they are just automatic in various areas and you get auto rewarded for doing them. You will get a quest to do something and then find out that theres a bonus quest in the area sometimes to kill x amount of creatures. Rewards for them are pretty minor and generally just some extra xp while if you want you can grind the area for further bonus quests that increase the amount to kill. In a way it kind of is just a bonus for when you just go grinding for a little extra xp.

In alot of cases also you will accomplish the bonus quest automatically while doing another quest as you blow through the mobs in the way.
