Is anyone running the beta on an outdated computer? I don't plan to buy a new one until next summer but I'd rather not wait that long to try this game. On a laptop, about 4 years old...

it runs on an amd neo x2 1.6ghz with a radeon hd 4330 with 3 gigs of ram. its not playable in big check points but is playable for day to day quests

A good heads up is that hp has the dv6z quad edition which an amd llano and a second dedicated gpu you can build it out for about $780 . for $600 its the amd a6 3400m but for $100 you can upgrade to the amd quad core a8-3530mz which is 2.6/1.9 vs 2.3/1.4 . The second number is important as thats its actual clock speed with no turbo enabled. The a6 comes with radeon 6520G while the a8 comes with the 6620G . $75 bucks will upgrade you to the hd 6750m 1Gb you should be able to use both in crossfire for better performance. It also comes with 6 gigs of ram and a bluray player

What is outdated? I have a laptop from 2008 with a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, and a GT 9600M. I'm assuming you wanted weaker specs than that.

Will a quad core AMD 965black, ATI 6870 and 4gb ram run this in top specs?

I'm thinking yes, since BF3 is running on ultra no sweat. But still, for some reason WoW needs a behemoth of a rig as well.

Going to want to get some more ram, other than that you're fine.

Wish there were more people in beta right now... can't queue up for anything...

:/

My life is so horrible, i know.
I wish they wouldn't do these staggered rollouts. Knowing the servers are down is one thing. Knowing that somebody (who's not an employee of Bioware) is getting to play right now while I'm not is another. >.< It makes me antsy.

I have an ancient Q6600 and 8800 GTX with 4GB Ram, but I play in a window so I can browse the web

Fuck it. I am back in.

Just re-upped my pre-order. With the way work is going I will have time. Still can't confirm consistent raid attendance, but I should be on most nights if it turns out good.

i'll ecco what shadow says .

8gb of ddr 3 1333 is $45 or $35 after rebate . You can run it with your 4GB of ram for a total of 12 gigs.

I would certianly do this as you wont find 4GB of ddr 3 for less than $25 anyway. The $10 bucks will give u alot more ram.

boh the new patch notes are really awesome :O

One of 100 good changes:
Added a new Open World Free-for-All PvP area on Tatooine where any non-group member can be attacked, regardless of faction.

Funny xD That is real open PvP xD

Edit: And Item Modification is back :D

One of the better content patches in awhile.

Crafting seems to have had some serious work done which is good...if it all works:p

Still holding the cards tight on endgame content though from the beta testers outside of Ilum.

New build patch notes are up on a certain site. Looks pretty good.

Looks pretty bad IMO. Not all of it, just the part concerning Sith Sorcerers. Range of basically all their attacks reduced from 30 yd to 10 yd. That's terrible for a caster.

Well you had to have known a nerf was coming.

A nerf? Yes. Decrease in base damage, things like that. But forcing a caster into what is essentially melee range is pretty rediculous.

That's for the base class. Currently it's 15yd, I think. Once you choose the caster AC the range gets increased to 30ish.

It's a nerf for the more melee oriented AC, not the pure caster.

Again, it's not a change in the Sorc AC. It's a change to Consulars and Inquisitors. The base classes.

Edit: for example... You make an Inq and you get those lightning, etc spells and they have a range of 15 yards (soon to be 10). You get to level 10 and then pick Sorc as your AC. Sorc comes with a passive ability that increases the range of those spells to like 30-35 yards.

Are you positive on this? The patch notes posted are very vague in a lot of cases.

Yeah, pretty sure. I'm not in the beta so I can't jump in and verify 100%, but they listed the changes under general, before going into Advanced Class specific changes.

Edit: it's easier to tell in the Jedi Consular section. The classes are exact mirrors of eachother. It's easy to understand how it could be misinterpreted... The formatting is pretty terrible.

Item hyperlinks? Fucking finally

My favourite new feature is "dick-to-tell." I thought it was just the font messing with my eyes, but nope.

I guess the notes weren't copy+pasted, but poorly transcribed. That explains the formatting.

"Characters corrupted by the dark side now have the option to represent that corruption visually. Dark side corruption becomes increasingly visible as the player achieves new dark side ranks."

Oh my god fuck yes. My sentinal is going to be so fucking evil now.

Oh and thanks for all the hardware tips :)

Why would you be a melee sith sorc? That's retarded, the class isn't suited for being a battle mage

They have lots of close range and melee abilities, they really are suited for battle mage type of role.

Also seem to be trying to differentiate the force users from the other regular classes largely by range. But they still are capable of fairly long range "spells"

I have one question since I haven't posted for a while in this thread or really checked out the news. We going into November almost now have they started to roll out more beta invite waves yet or is there any news on it?

Option? Is it something you toggle or is it like ME2 Renegade scarring where you need to pay to get rid of it (never did, it was cool but i do not want any corruption effects on my characters in TOR)?

It's an option, you can turn it off

Smuggler

Some abilities have been moved and are now trainable at new levels.

The Cover System has been altered. Smugglers now begin play with Crouch, allowing the player to take cover at any location. Defensive bonuses are determined by the characters position, and Show Cover is now on by default. Gunslingers receive an additional passive ability, Hold Position, that increases ranged defense and provides immunity to knockbacks and activation pushback while in cover.

Anyone know what that means?

Patch note highlights for me:

Overall enemy difficulty has increased through greater damage output and the addition of increasingly dangerous unique abilities.

Many enemy NPCs related to Heroic Missions are more difficult and have more interesting combat abilities.

New Sentinel Abilities

• Rebuke: reduces damage taken and reflects damage back to attackers. It refreshes to its full duration when the player is attacked but cannot last more than 30 seconds in total.

Crippling Throw: inflicts Trauma, reducing all healing received by the target.

Gathering

Adjusted the number of credits obtained from Slicing nodes.

Renamed Sliced Tech Parts to Scavenged Tech Parts and made Tech Parts collectable through Scavenging rather than Slicing.

Moved Augments from Underworld Trading to Slicing.

Schematics for personal starship upgrades can now be obtained through Slicing.

Crafting

Adjusted training costs for crafting Crew Skills. Adjusted some of the item modification options for crafting skills. ♦ Cybertech earpieces and Biochem implants can now yield research variations when they are reverse engineered. Shield generator schematics are now available from the Cybertech and Artifice Crew Skill trainers.

Research schematics are now available for crafted item modifications.

It is now possible to research items learned at 400 crafting skill.

All blaster barrels are now crafted through Armstech.

Armstech can now craft a wider variety weapons, such as vibroblades and scatterguns.

Artifice can now craft all enhancements and hilts.

Color crystal schematics are now available in Artifice.

Schematics for personal starship upgrades have been added.

Itemization

Many more items now have modification slots, and more modifiable items are available from mission rewards and enemy drops.

As players progress through the game, more types of modifiable items become available.
The quality level of empty modifiable gear drops has been increased to at least Prototype.
Weapon, armor, and other type-specific base item modifications have been reintroduced. Affected Crew Skills have been adjusted to reflect this.

Companion Character gear has been substantially updated.

The distribution of stat points on equipment has been adjusted for balance across equipment types. Random gear with modification slots has been removed. Increased overall visual variety of gear available on each planet.

Items

• Added space suit gear as a reward for Space Combat.

Origin World chests now provide medpacs without a level requirement.

Removed offhand-only lightsaber and blaster pistol random drops.

A new line of random shield generators has been added.

Renamed the Jungle Outfit to Survivalist Outfit for the Companion Character Corso Riggs.

Created a line of light side and dark side relics.
