Fantastic... I can't log into my account.

It's telling me it doesn't recognize the pc I'm logging from... even though it's the same damn one. I don't remember what I put in for "my favorite activity", which is the only security question that keeps popping up. I KNOW I'm putting in the right password.... only because I had to reset it 5 times before (then realizing I was inputting in the right password but forgetting their obtuse capitalization requirements).

Apparently, I can log into and access Origin just fine, and I it's letting me change the password using the SWTOR website.... so if I was hacking this account I would still have access to the whole account... I just wouldn't be able to log into swtor...lol

Although these constant updates on everyone's beta status and download speeds are really exciting, does anyone have more impressions of the game itself they'd like to share?

I am thinking hard about BH, but I don't want to do that brown ass Hutta planet again and then a 3rd time on release. So what is the republic equivalent? That would be Trooper right?

Pretty bummed, finally got an invite but was completely busy the weekend the invite was apparently for. Really wanted to give this one a shot, anyone know of any websites etc that are giving out beta codes?

I think just about everyone has been waiting to see if what is probably the most hyped MMO – perhaps, the most hyped videogame – in history will actually live up to all it promises.

So why don’t we get down right to that? Does BioWare’s first MMO live up to its enormous hype?

Is Star Wars: The Old Repubic any good?

And if I were to put all of my thoughts and experiences about the game into a single-word answer to that question, it would really just have to be:

No.

Has anyone else who just got in for this weekend's beta fixed the problem with not getting the client to download? Before I left for work this morning, I downloaded the 20-ish MB thing, but when I ran it, nothing would happen.

guy from opinion piece said:
When did I make any claims of objectivity? This is an opinion piece, I’m being completely subjective here by the nature of the article. I don’t claim to be the final voice on… well, on just about anything, and I don’t want to. And I’m certainly not saying “Don’t buy this game.” I’m not really sure how this “review,” as you call it, is biased – unless that means I’m expressing my opinion, in which case, hell yeah it’s biased. How do you write an opinion piece without stating your opinion?

I suppose it may look like I have it out for the game but honestly, I really don’t. I wanted this game to be good – really, really good – which is a large part of the reason why this piece comes off as so scathing. I’m bitterly disappointed that the game isn’t more than what I’ve seen. And that’s really the heart of the article. You can say that I had unrealistic expectations going in, and perhaps there’s a sliver of truth to that, but I’m really at a loss here – when did it become a bad thing to demand more from companies? To demand better products, better services? Isn’t that an attitude that any company should have – to constantly be improving itself and be providing its customers with better services?

But ultimately, there is nothing objective here. I probably should have thrown a disclaimer in there somewhere that, since I was covering my impressions of a beta, not everything I mention may be true now or at launch. I was kind of hoping that was self-evident, but I can understand how it might not come across that way.

And I’m glad that you’ve found the game you’ve been looking for. Sincerely, I am. That’s a score for both you and BioWare. But it’s not the game I was looking for, and for a time, I thought it could have been. That’s why I’m disappointed.

I think the bold is the main problem people seem to be having with this game. KotOR came out way back in 2003 and was really a culmination of what people loved about games like Baldur's and Neverwinter and BW combined those with the awesome potential of the Star Wars universe and people really loved being able to take your character and be this Jedi that you have seen in movies or make him go all out evil and it was extremely gratifying and done amazingly well. But now it is 2011 and we have had Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Fallout and Dragon's Age and other clones attempt a similar formula. I think some people have a valid complaint when the say they are disappointed that it is more of the same.

What I don't care for are the people saying that they hate "FedEx" and "Kill 10 rats" quests. Because it seems like they are not actually trying to play the game they want to, but are instead just running around following along the prompts that pop up, such as : "BONUS MISSION Kill 10 motherfucking whatevers" You don't have to do that. Bonus Mission. Bonus. Non essential. Skip it. Join a Flashpoint. Queue up for a Warzone. Stick to the main story that has less of the Kill shit 20 times because 'XP' and has the more interesting character developing plot. Which is good. Insofar as I have been able to play it.

For me, having played the beta and having played other "AAA" MMO's for years - I think they are doing an excellent job. Could it be better? Fucking yes. Does it need to be better? Fucking yes. Will it be better? Fucking yes.

To simulate a launch environment, testers who have accepted new invites to weekend testing will gain testing access in staggered intervals based on when their invites were accepted. The first group of testers will be able to log on beginning on Friday morning (11/25) at 10:00AM CST (16:00 London, 17:00 Paris/Berlin). Then, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM CST (16:00 London, 17:00 Paris/Berlin) the second and final waves of testers will gain access. Please watch your email for details about when your phase of testing begins. This will come in a separate email from your invite.

To our existing testers: at 10:00AM CST on Friday 11/25, you will notice several new servers appear in server selection for the weekend test to accommodate all our weekend testers. You are welcome to create characters on these new servers, but please note that they will only be available for the duration of the weekend test, which ends on 11/27 at 11:59PM CST (11/28 5:59 London, 6:59 Paris/Berlin).

Interesting.
So this means if I'm in the Sunday group I will only get to play for 14 hours during the weekend test?!

I want a new Jedi Knight game. I guess TOR sucks because its not actiony.

Go to IGNs page on youtube and look for a SWTOR video. I guarantee you one of the comments will say SWTOR is bad because its not Battlefront 3, an entirely different game series from a different developer.

Talk about marketing....

Actually in my case it's not even 14 hours.
Because I have to get up early on Monday so I will probably go to sleep around midnight.
So it's about 7 hours or less for me in the EU if it starts at 17:00 CET.

If this is going to be the case i'm not even gonna bother with it...

Also FU EA.

It would seem so however it appears to be a way of testing out early access with the waves of people that will be coming in every day till the actual launch day. Makes sense for them to do this to see how well it runs.

Hopefully they count the registration time from when you RSVPd and not clicked accept in that email.

Also, they could save a lot of bandwidth costs if you didn't have to redownload the entire client.

Yeah some people like to blame the game when it's their personality at fault. Anyone who thinks this is a completionist who hates completing things.

I didn't RSVP this morning since I wasn't checking this thread over the weekend. :(

One thing of note, when I logged into my Nov 11th client it made me go to the website and fill out 5 security questions. Then I had to answer one when I logged in. Then it started downloading.

I'm assuming having to doubly veify your account, and getting the "you are logged in from a region we do not support play from" error message is not anything you're supposed to be having? Playing from Europe if anyone's wondering, or attempting to play, but I'm pretty sure I was open about that the whole time and still got the invite...? Unless keys are regional?

EDIT: LOL and :( at the questions they ask you... it's like "how many times (on average) do you and your girl/boyfriend have sex?" and "in what city were you married?". Screw you, Bioware, I thought your games' biggest audience were people to whom those questions did not apply.

God can you QQ more?

Getting a shot of a beta isn't a fucking god given right. It isn't a demo. It is a stress test. The purpose being to emulate the launch window and test servers. Not to entertain you for your weekend.

I kind of understand what that reviewer is talking about. Having played the game, the main thing I enjoyed was the story. My Jedi was good, but kept being dragged into crazy plot even though Jedi "aren't the police". I sure as hell felt like some kind of U.S. Marshall. Which was the fun part. However, I can see the end game being the usual gear grind we've come to expect from games like WoW, RIFT, Age of Conan, etc. If people don't like that kind of thing, then they'll be disappointed. If people are expecting Star Wars Galaxies with a new coat of paint, they'll also be disappointed.

I think the game is fun overall, but Jedi are busted at the moment and I hope they get that together before launch, but I have a feeling they won't. I would go so far as to say that melee in general are having trouble. On top of that, mobs are seriously overtuned and that may also cause people some grief. We'll see, I hope they take care of this before the game launches on the 15th of December.

Perhaps going into this with guarded expectations will help some people enjoy it more.

Why is it making me download the client again. I've already done it twice for two separate beta weekends =(

I read that entire blog post and it didnt really dissuade me since those faults are part and parcel for MMOs and what I expect coming in. Still, will give the game a shot to see if my old laptop can handle it.

Trooper female is the one voiced by Jennifer Hale right? I want know so I can avoid it during beta and save that story/into area for release.
