So my beta time has started, but when I click the play button I get an error message saying that the game has stopped working. I checked their forums a they said to make sure I running the game as an administrator, which I am. I am on windows 7 64bit. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this? I really want to try this game out.

I'm surprised most people getting in are commenting on the graphics instead of the gameplay. It's not like the art direction was a surprise or anything, screenshots have been up for months. If anything, it actually looks improved compared to where it was months ago. I've never been a fan of the direction they took, but I think they've done a decent job.

That said.. I'll say the character models are disappointing. The character creation is garbage. The races comprise of a bunch of humans, with identical body proportions, only with different face paint. There's only 1 or 2 realistic body options, buff guy or skinny guy, the other two, anorexic and obese, are ridiculous. No height adjustments etc... In the end, with full gear on, everybody is going to look the same. Also, some of the armor texture is bleh. They also suffer from the WoW armor issue, where all light gear is skin-tight spandex. I mean seriously? Is it not possible to texture some pants in there?

I finished the Black Talon flashpoint last night, took about an hour. Was bounty hunter, mercenary, a Juggernaut and myself a Sith Assassin. Only technical issue I had was that when I started the game back up in the evening the textures were completely borked, I mean no detail, looked terrible. I quit and restarted and got back the better textures. I wonder if some of the complaints are from those unlucky enough to get that the first try and not realize there is a problem. Seriously, huge difference.

As far as the Sith Assassin, I made it to level 11. So far I'm meh.. I typically play a ranged DPS or support/CC role. The assassin has a great backstab ability but by the time I get to the mob when I'm in a group they have mostly been burned down. Basically the Juggernaut leaps in with their leap ability, the DPS open up fire from range, I spend time running up to cast or melee and the mob is dead.

I'm trying to decide now if I should try out a ranged class like sniper or just stick with what I've got now that off of the start planet. Any suggestions?

I played Jedi Shadow to level 20 and the class is not really the stealth-backstab class for sure. Its the ability to use force powers at range while also able to dish out damage in meele. Stealth do is useful when soloing more than in group play.

I would assume smuggler or BH/IA would suit you well

Anybody rolling Sith but going light side?

Pushed a Scoundrel to Level 12. Not sure what to think about the class. Feels all over the place.
Also you only get one ability to use during Stealth and that at 30+? Weird.

Please help me enjoy this game.

I'm playing BF3 on high on a 22 inch screen. Despite that, I'm having a lot of graphical problems with SW:TOR. Textures (especially on big walkways) are rendered in super low textures. Occasionally they'll pop into focus, but 90% of the time I'm looking at ground that looks like something from the late 90's. In addition, the frame rate absolutely sucks.

I just don't understand this. I've got the latest graphical drivers :(

So far this game has its ups and downs. Of the four or so classes I've played, the Bounty Hunter and Jedi had the best starting areas, Jedi getting the edge. Not necessarily talking story, just the actual environments.

I found the Smuggler/Trooper area to be pretty damn ugly looking.

Not entirely sold that the cinematic presentation of kill X number of dudes is selling me any more than endless text logs are. In fact, sometimes they're even more annoying because the load in to them. The main storyline stuff is cool though.

I don't want to be overly negative though, because I did spend some hours with it and I'm having fun. I wish BioWare had copied Rift's AOE looting (unless I'm missing an option to toggle it on and off), it'd make looting kills a let less tedious.

Now, aside from the graphics/performance problems, there's a few things that no amount of tweaks are going to fix.

Charachter customization is terrible. As a human male I've got a choice between 2 female body types, a huge body builder, and some kind of Hutt creature. There's 28 hair style and not a single crew or buzz cut. And, worst of all, I don't get to choose a voice actor.

I made the mistake of going IA with the 3rd body style (the only male looking one that didn't look like a Hutt) and now I've got this 260lb body builder running around with a fake british accent that sounds like it belongs on a pre-pubescent boy.

You must hate Star Wars imperials because they all sound like that in the movie. XD

You are indeed, check the UI tab of the options, I think.

Played a Smuggler to 15, surprised at how much I liked the storyline. Very enjoyable. Now I'm playing a Jedi Knight to 15, just go get an idea how Marauder/Sentinel is. Then I shall play a Trooper to 15. Trying not to get too sucked in with any one character, since all of this shit is going to get wiped anyway. Absogoddamnlutely loving the game though, and my preorder is safe.

Also, on people hating on the graphics; it's perfectly fine to do so. Graphics are the most subjective element of the game, so some people will love them, some will be indifferent, some will hate them. There's pretty much no way to please everyone.

And regarding the 'new' models for the old races in WoW; it only took them 7 years to accomplish this? What a fucking joke. So glad I'll be done with that game for good now that TOR is out.

With the amount of dialog in the game choosing a voice actor was never going to happen. Like someone else said they already record all PC lines twice for male and female, giving each sex even one other option puts that at 4, 3 puts that at recording all PC lines 6 times. There's no way they would spend the time and money to do that.

I agree that other character customization is disappointing, though.

I tried the game out on my star wars mad 9 year old who at the moment Is Into playing Skyrim on the PC.
He wasn't impressed at all and didn't ask for the game to be purchased for him which is unusual.

If this were a free to play mmorpg I would understand but It beggars belief that this game has the Star Wars franchise behind it and a lot of money yet it still has turned out average at best.

I hope I am wrong and It sells by the millions as a Star Wars mmorpg deserves to be a good game.

*Game uninstalled.

To be fair, I can't imagine any MMO of this kind being particularly engaging to a 9 year old.

I'm confused at how you can get confused...I find the maps in this game thoroughly simple to read, and the green icons showing you where to go are impossible to miss.

The large map is easy to read but the mini map can be confusing because the icons "appear" to move everywhere when you're running around. Then I'm distracted by the respawn rate of mobs. I can't tell you how many times I missed the blown out hallways in the Stronghold due to that - and opening the huge map all the time is obnoxious in a hostile area.

I haven't played enough Shadow/Assassin to know how stealth detection is, but generally if you want to be attacking from stealth you should already be close to the target when the Tank hits it. Don't sit back with the Ranged.

I have preference to play my MMOs with the keyboard only, so last night I was changing some controls around, however I couldn't do something that was really bothering me sicne I still had to use the mouse for that.

Is there a way to loot with the keyboard? Thanks.

Can someone tell me how I can reset the game settings outside of the game? Like maybe a folder or file I can delete? Last night I got this thing where every time the game was going to start, after the launcher, my monitor would go black and give me a popup saying the monitor was not in optimum mode. It wasn't a game or windows message, it was my monitor. I reinstalled the game overnight and now it works fine, but I don't want to do that again if there's another way.

Yeah, it says I'm gonna wait 11 days for my server, but my estimate is that I'll be in the server in less than half an hour.

Game has been haning on the loading screen for my sith warrior (with the blue bar) for upwards of 20 minutes now. Weird, it didnt do this last test, maybe the servers are so full that I cant load in or something.

just got done playing for 5 hours. Tried each of the different starter areas. Jedi Knight has the "prettiest" if I can call it that. The sith warrior starter (I think Korriban?) is by far the worst.

After I tried a class other than jedi knight I actually started enjoying the game quite a bit. I really like how they break down the quests via voice and cutscene, though some are overly drawn out.. It took me a while to get used to the idea of that in an MMO but I dig it. would probably enjoy it a LOT more if I gave a shit about story.

Combat is pretty fun too, if not overly simple (keep in mind I'm only level 8), so I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Overall I went from hyped to not hyped back to purchase after playing.

by far the biggest disappointment for me has been the graphics. what a letdown :(. If it was consistent, or at least on par with the quality of their HEADS (the heads look great!) I would be satisfied.

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!
Is there any way to queue attacks like in KotOR or is it really just 1 attack at a time and a brief window to queue a second attack during cooldown?

so I'm just now hopping on the bandwagon here.. anyone know of a retailer who's still got pre-order stock of CE's? if not, looks like I'm going Amazon for normal edition

I believe you can queue attacks. At least I feel like it does while in combat. It isn't like KOTOR at all in terms of queuing though.

EDIT: Nevermind. It's just the brief window.

Yea, Jedi starter planet is excellent

They really have upped the difficulty of mobs since my last beta test almost a month ago

Target and Best Buy still were offering it for sale a couple weeks ago.

So which has a better starter story, sith or Jedi?

Also how much bandwidth does playing this use? I am at 204 GB out of 250 downloaded for November and need to keep it where it is until after watch NFL Sunday ticket on PS3 tomorrow since I am not sure how much it will use.
