I was really enjoying the game and I really want to get it, but his game is buggy as fuck. I have run into bugs that won't even let me boot the game 3 times now, never mind all the janky crap going on inside the game. I'm going to have to wait a month or so to get it.

couple of quick questions: Where/how do I get a companion (I'm level 8 and beginning to experience some pushback from some of these mobs) and what exactly is the punishment for death? Or is there one?

All classes get their companions from their class quest line. While the exact timing varies, they all receive one before finishing their starter planet. So, keep going.

The punishment for death is time (if you use the self-res repeatedly you have to wait longer and longer until you choose instead to return to a med center) and equipment durability. Note that self-res is not available inside Flashpoints (dungeons), Operations (raids), or Warzones (battlegrounds).

Played 11 levels of Sith Inquisitor today and tried all but Smuggler as well. I like this game very much. Liked WoW, this is WoW with Star Wars skin which makes this even better...
SI story is good, female voice acting is good and the class is pretty fun to play, with its mix of light saber and lightning. Some sort temp speed boost or charge would be lovely though.

Now this ain't flawless game. The quest design and bunch of other things are like WoW's years ago. This game needs modernization even before it is launched.

And the performance is ridiculously bad. Maybe it is because there is so much people at same places, maybe not but still, really bad. The laptop i use does not quite have recommended specs (graphics card is the issue of course), but even with minimal graphics settings (not counting resolution and high textures which don't seem to have any adverse effects for some reason) frame rate is around <=10 at worst, averaging at maybe 25. All smoke, fog, etc effects cause a ridiculous drain in performance. The slam, or whatever it is called, ability which makes PBAOE lighting shockwave causes similar drain.

Combat feels fine otherwise but there's stupid delay beetween clicking the ability and something happening. Not long but noticeable, even when frame rate is 30+. Oh and targeting feels bad, there good "plates" to replaces nametags on enemies for easy clicking. I'm not good at using TAB for targeting, prefer mouse target and turn and keyboard triggered abilities.

Companions follow too closely and their controls are awfully located and are not good either. The UI is stylish though i'd trade some stylishness for simplicity and ease of use. For some reason i cannot make general keybinding/other settings, everything seems to be character-specific.

At level 15 you get Sprint, which will stay active when OOC and makes you run faster.

Oh, nice. Very nice. I do wonder if i'm going to level this one 15 though, probably going to try out some other class tomorrow. Besides, i'm dreading what sort frame rate Dromund Kaas will have have.

Stress test =/= performance on your rig.

This build is pretty much the most optimized of all builds yet, but it's still pretty uneven.

Performance during a beta stress test isn't indicative of how the game is going to perform on your computer at launch. That's common sense.

A better idea would be to use early access to preview the game, and then cancel your pre-order.

Has anyone tried the space combat? At what level can you start doing those? Is it an endgame thing oder something that goes on throughout the whole game?

It's somehow the only feature that does seem to make this one stand out from other MMOs.

There won't be much change between this build and the early access build. People are acting like early access is months away. It's only a couple of weeks.

You get your ship around level 16 or so. And it's just a tunnel shooter mini-game. Nothing like the free-form X-Wing/TIE-Fighter space combat from SWG.

Yea so I think my launch character selection will look like

Sith Inquisitor -> Sith Assassin
Light Side
Archaeology
Artifice
Not sure on 3rd crew skill yet

But of course currently I am enrolled in the GAF Republic Guild...haha

Game runs surprisingly well on my machine, but I guess with most MMOs at launch you either get lucky or you are in a world of pain. Overall it doesn't seem not the game's biggest problem at the moment.

I also need to try out the Empire out tomorrow after all. Wanted to save it for launch and waste this weekend on the Republic, but I got kinda attached to my Scoundrel and I don't think he would work as IA.

Played it for a few hours earlier today (will play again when I finish making dinner ;P) and I had only one bug happen to me.

Otherwise no crashes, no lag, no performance issues at all. Was expecting a lot worse based on what I had been reading.

Beta weekend servers different from the regular beta testers? My friend is on the Promenade server while all I see is Beta and Public servers.

Anyone know if high textures aren't loading? I have everything set to max, but textures look horrendous at times. Especially some ground\wall textures. Playing Trooper and the city looks pretty bad. So I'm hoping it's just not loading high res textures.

Actually, I'm starting to change my mind already.. :lol

At what point do you get your own ship, and has anyone tried space battles yet? Thoughts?

You will get your ship at the second planet during your class quest. It varies per class, because each story is different.

The space combat is a fun little minigame to play during downtime. Not a major aspect of the game though.

Okay game is a lot better looking with the ini fixes and it's also performing up to standard now.

Only problem is the horrendous pop in, it's so terrible. Things literally popping in and out right near my character

Would you mind posting how you change or what you change in the .ini files? Which files etc.

Thanks

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
One thing I never figured out, as a Sith Assassin/Jedi Shadow does Willpower or Strength affect your meele attacks?

It actually tells you in game. If you mouse over willpower as an assassin/shadow, it shows that it increases melee damage.

How much does AA affect the framerate?

I wonder how much of the beta problems will be fixed in the release version. There sure seems to be a lot of stucks etc. As for me, I'm unable to turn the game off - every time I press "Quit", either nothing happens or the game freezes.

Also, the missing pants bug made me giggle.

One thing I can't understand, they have higher res character models for conversations...why not allow us to turn them on for normal play? Lower specs can use the current textures, higher spec PCs can use the conversation textures...

Also agree that there is no excuse for the terrible character creation, but I wonder if it is limited by the model building they have to do for conversations system

I think the texture res option is bugged. I notice the gear looks low res sometimes but not during character select screen and cutscenes.

Put about 4 hours into it tonight in one sitting. The storyline kept me playing, but overall, the combat and mechanics dont feel interesting, like at all. I kept playing thought because the campaign is interesting. Feels more like an offline single player rpg.

Yeah I'm mainly pressing on because of the storyline.. but the combat system is dreadfully boring. ><

Will most likely play until Monday, or at least until I get my spaceship. But there's no way in hell I'm actually buying this game unless they make some serious changes to the core gameplay, which seems unlikely.

The combat is completely fine. Of course you might not have much at low level. You can say the same about any RPG. This game has more abilities you learn than most MMOs.

This. I find most of the classes' combat somewhat boring until around level 20 or so. By then, everybody's AC and their talent spec starts to give them some interesting combos and synergy between skills.

Although I wasn't sure about not having auto attack, I can still work it in my rotations.

Had fun tanking at level 14. Was able to keep aggro as long as the group stayed sharp.

Going to go ahead and chime in, I'm feeling the exact same way. Oddly enough, I'm finding the storyline (of the classes I've played) to be WAAAAAY more engaging than anything else. I'd like to do a few flashpoints and experience a couple of more classes before completely tossin' SWTOR by the wayside, without ever looking back in my rearview. I wasn't expecting a revolution or evolution... but hell, something different would've been nice? ...-- again, storytelling elements/cutscene are ace in my book (considering the genre) but everything else about this game just comes off sort of "me too" ish and plain ole' boring sometimes.

Hence, the benefit of the doubt... but even that's not enough. I'll probably mostly stick to my trooper and see how far I can go.

Yeah feeling the same. If I were to buy, at this point it would seem that Id do it just for the campaign. Which is no small feat honestly. I fucking hate star wars. Hate it hate it hate it. But they have made the campaign interesting as hell, for Sith anyways. Id definitely give it a playthrough.

I'm sold. Playing sith with my buddies over Skype is awesome. Storyline for assassin is pretty sweet. Sure the game needs to be fixed here and there but that will come in due time. What really needs to be fixed is the black login screen bug. I think it has to do with the login servers personally.

What server is the GAF guild on?

I started playing this morning and remembered how boring MMOs are when there's no one to talk to/play with.

The story is fun, but the quests are boring.

We came across several elite areas and actually had to think a little on some of our quests, that made me happy. I'll always prefer more grindy quests with challenge and group encouragement like WoW had in classic compared to its modern Solo Encouraged LittleBigPlanet fare.

I don't see it lasting though, maybe someone who has leveled further up can clue me in but I don't trust any modern mmo maker to actually cater to groups or produce any tension anymore. Sounds like everything in GW2 is scaling though, that's the way to do it.
