Swimming related quests in WoW and EQ were the worst, and frankly always was stupid how you would be performing regular combat in the middle of an ocean, or swimming around in full plate armor lol.

Ugh, just got a kick in the ass regarding this game. A lot of the guys who did Warhammer are also working in key positions on this game. Including PVP. If anyone remembers Warhammer Online (and currently Rift's shitty PVP and changes affecting PVE badly), I can't help but frown at this news.

Knowing this, at least I know going in not to get too attached to my class...

PVP was the best aspect of Warhammer Online. The problem with Warhammer Online was outside of buggy launch, was that the game had no pve content and the game was nothing but PVP. RIFT's shitty PVP is because it's way too much like WoW pvp in feel with insane amount of CC abilities that even surpass that game.

I would try to answer the Warhammer Online comment but I'm too busy getting knocked back every two seconds. In all seriousness, WAR's PVP was handled poorly. PvE even worse. Outside of the first zone and the last zone, PVP in Warhammer was not there. It all took place in WoW style BGs. WAR also has so much CC, it wasn't even funny.

RIFT's PVP, at this early stage, is falling into the same traps. =/

All of this has something in common. Mythic dudes. I just hope PVP buffs/nerfs don't bleed their way into PvE. Shame more MMOs don't take the LOTRO approach and completely seperate PvP and PvE.

CC was very very minor in WAR compared to WoW and especially RIFT which has even more than WoW. They also nerfed the hell out of the few CC abilities in WAR fairly quickly to the point now where there hardly is any. Much of WAR's problems were with the countless design and bad ideas, but the core pvp gameplay was some of the best out of the three games mentioned, they sadly fucked up on implementation of many aspects like design of the orvr content.

Man, I really think you're not quite remembering correctly the vast amount of CCing that went in in WAR. You had stuns, knockbacks, AoE de-taunts, roots, AoE roots and so on...

I played for a year and a half after most bailed on the game and wrote it off, and it was nothing compared to WoW or RIFT. And again, they nerfed the hell out of most of the CC abilities, and in many cases classes outright had their knockback abilities removed. Many classes also did not have any actual CC abilities, and almost every one had anti CC abilities.

Yeah, WAR RvR/PvP is awesome, and is still pretty damn rad. If those guys are working on SWTOR PvP, then im very happy.

Long time fan of DAoC, and a pretty big fan of WAR RvR, hopefully means I will be right at home.

They really fixed up that game and the pvp is great, but sadly the servers are pretty much dead. The game is basically not playable without a playerbase, it has almost no single player content. They had a rough start but did really improve greatly the pvp, but they neglected much of the rest of the game and completely ignored adding new content.

Sadly, some of those guys are doing RIFT's PVP and that sucks.

I honestly don't care for PVP. It's fun at times, but when it bleeds into PVE? Fuck PVP.

Wait, no swimming at all? Or just no going underwater? It would be a bit weird to come across a lake and not be able to swim across it.

Just canceled my pre-order. No swimming is a deal breaker for me and shows that the dev team clearly doesn't understand Star Wars lore. Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Jar-Jar anyone? R2? Luke?

Pitiful.

Yep. I usually hate PvP in MMO's, but this is exciting to me. DAoC was the king of RvR/PvP back in its day, and I enjoyed the little bit of PvP I did in WAR.

Did they also shoot themselves in the foot?

Not that hard. They only have to also do it for the 500 other characters, too. They can knock that out in a weekend /sarcasm

EA has shipped pretty much all of Mythic down to work on the game.

All we have to do is pick the class that is closest to a bright mage

Step 1: Stand behind a rock

Step 2: Use your AoE ability

Step 3: ???

Step 4: The entire opposing raid has died, you win

Too bad they nerfed bright mage to hell

One thing I'm looking forward to is being forced to live with your choices in The Old Republic since you can't exactly go back to an earlier save and alot of players probably aren't going to want to start fresh an already decently invested character either just because they accidentally pissed off an entire sand people tribe by peeking into one of their wicker baskets forcing you to slaughter them. Oops.

Companions can apparently be killed off aswell, I'm guessing through rash judgment or butting heads on morality like in DAO.

Well too late then. I gave them several major patches to fix that class before I quit. I just kept telling myself, this is just an early April fool's joke right? I mean the Dev team couldn't be that incompetent could they?

So needless to say, when I hear they are working on TOR pvp, it doesn't make jump for joy. But to be fair to the WAR team, both WoW and Rift's pvp is a complete and utter joke. So I don't have much faith in any dev team when it comes to pvp balance.

The SI can even sacrifice his own companion to gain up to 75% of his maximum health.

Rift's PVP is utter crap. The amount of CC is bonkers. The worst part are the snares. Oh God. Every class in that game has a snare.

I played WAR for a bit but found the PVP to be kind of bland.

They nerfed bright mages within the first month pretty hard, though kept going long after with constant nerfs with each patch.

Course perhaps it was on purpose, since with the BM, Order would have been ass raped even harder than it normally was with the huge population imbalances.

Pretty nice update with good description of the advanced classes. Interesting to see that 6 of the 8 classes will have access to healing. Perhaps this is why they said you won't really need a dedicated healer.

LOOK AT DAT... heatmap?

I've decided to roll a Sith Inquisitor-Assassin going down whatever tree gives me the close range combat and hopefully some stealth.

This was actually a decent update given the medium. It's nice to know what kind of class tuning they're doing and the reason behind it :)
•The ‘Advanced Prototype’ skill tree, shared between both Bounty Hunter ACs, now features an upgrade to the base class flamethrower, which allows the player to rotate while using the ability.
This was already shown in a video earlier (combat trailer), so it makes me wonder if they have removed it at some point just to put it back in the game...

Or it was just animation work that not attached to finalized abilities

I don't think I like a jedi consular to have a tanking role as well. It doesn't make any sense.

Pretty much your choice of what role you want for your consular really. Most of the classes advanced features quite a few role options.

It means it's going to be like guild wars 1, pretty enviroments but no interacting with it.
Do not want (to play another mmo like that again, after gw1 and aion)

In addition to PVP not bleeding into PVE, another hope I have is crafting now being a complete waste of time. I like Rift and all, but the crafting is completely worthless.

They haven't revealed much about it yet, but crafting should be a perfectly viable substitute for questing and PvPing in terms of getting good gear. There is a chance to 'crit' when you craft thus making better (unique?) gear.

It's exactly like WoW crafting, what's worthless about it?

So, now Shadows are Tanks.....=_=

Great update today. Absolutely wonderful. But I'm disheartened by this news of my Jedi Shadows. =_=

Btw, I read the fine print so no need to quote me and show me the line where it says everything is subject to changes & review.

Anyways, awesome update.

They've said that players will be able to make the best gear in the game. Plus you don't have to sit there and watch it craft; it's passive.

Some of the classes don't make a lot of sense to me, but whatever. As long as it's fun.

It seems to me that they changed it so that no matter your Advanced Class, you can still deal a good amount of damage.

I just hope they pay special care to the DPS-only classes. I'd hate to see them nerfed in comparison to the classes with two roles.

Gonna be weird seeing them 'tank' with a double bladed lightsaber!

Also the pictures from the blog show part of the new UI.

Inquisitors can now be tanks. Interesting.

It's a relief actually. I didn't want to play as a sith warrior because I'm obsessed with the double bladed saber but was worried about constantly getting squashed out of stealth as an inquisitor. This settles things nicely for me.

No shadows are not tanks if you don't want them to be. They have said they want the classes to be flexible as the AC charts show, you have lot of role possibilities, the AC's are not locked down 100% to specific roles and how you invest your points and build your character will dictate how it ends up. A character who chooses specific advanced class does not become all those roles, those are just possibilities.
