And yes, I did actually test the environment and mechanics and everything else. That was part of the fun. I always enjoyed sending in a bug report only to see that issue fixed in the next patch. It really felt like I was improving the game. I remember getting a "World Shaper" title in one of the games I tested and I can it was very appropriate. Might've been Aion, I don't remember. Anyway, it really doesn't seem like the majority actually want to improve anything. They just want a free preview. For the sake of the game, I hope this isn't the case with ToR.

Aw yeah, that's the classic jam right there. I had a Dark Elf Shadow Knight. That was my very first experience being a tank and I loved it. It was easy to get into groups and once I knew a dungeon, it was easy to take my group to a prime grinding spot. And once I started to be known a little bit, I'd get invites as soon as I would jump on. Things are a little different today with WoW's mechanics, but I still love tanking.Derwind said:Welcome to the club.
I started playing MMO's with a Barbarian Shaman in EQ.... I was glorious, though I was also squishy as shit.....
There are a lot of people in beta who should not be there. I saw one guy just blow his account by spamming racial slurs in general chat. I saw another guy reach the first contested planet only to spend his entire time trolling and ganking. On the forums there is no shortage of people who act like they own the game. Then there are the leakers who get an invite and run to the cake site within the first two days just to feel special.Confused101 said:I like that MMORPG article about beta testing. That's good to hear. It just makes me mad that those idiots in there took the place of a possible legit tester. But there's no way to predict what they're going to do so it's no one's fault but their own. For the most part, it sounds like the community is very focused on the game.Ignis Fatuus said:That said, I believe these are the minority. The complete lack of accurate leaks from high level players is a strong indication to me that most testers take their responsibility seriously.

Derwind said:EQ was pretty darn fun. I never got turned down from a group since my class was a great healer and slower.
But the downside was that my class had one of the slowest, if not the slowest solo level progression in the entire game. We don't do well by ourselves for the majority, at least not until we get near the lvl 40 range. And PvP was hell, yet I've always played on a PvP server... =P

High five! Ive never met anyone online or off that has Kedge Keep as their favourite zone as well loved that placeVestal said:Soloing in Vanilla EQ?!?! That was like pulling teeth out, unless you were a GOD Necro, then you could FD at the Kings room and let your pet wreck havok.. I leveled a Pally and 99% of my leveling occured in groups, the last 10 levels(HELL LEVELS) were in my favorite zone out of any MMO ever which was Kedge Keep! Still remember a friend shaman peaking over the middle circle and getting Nuked dead in about 0.0010000001 seconds.
That quote makes not having a release date awfully painful.Iadien said:"The only way to experience these missions is to play the game."

Oh, going back to the Guardian/Shadow tanking discussion, there's a video up on Darth Hater's site that talks to the lead story designer of Bioware (I think) and he mentions very quickly that he is having a lot of fun with an Inquisitor tank at the moment. The video was uploaded about 2 weeks ago. Good news for me. I bet the Consular tank is similar.
The shared tree buffs spells. The stealth tree buffs stealth and stealth attacks. The other tree is for tanking. This is public info.Derwind said:There's a skill tree for stealth, that allow the Shadow to do massive amounts of damage when they leave it.
And another tree that supplements Melee.
And a shared skill tree that I suppose gives you some nukes, buffs and hopefully a HoT spell or minor healing.
I'm still deciding whether I want to go full DPS tank with my Shadow or become somewhat of a Rouge/Pally-ish character.

Going down the shared tree as a Shadow results in something not unlike a Battle Mage.

The descriptions of each tree on the official site are accurate. That's all I can say without breaking NDA.Derwind said:I know but that's not the complete skill(I'm trying not to use the word spell) list. Maybe there are minor healing branches in the shared skill set?
Or is there a place showing the list of skills the Shadow AC has available to it? I mean on that's official and unchanging?

Aw, you don't have to break it. Just snap a tiny bit off the corner of the NDA. The wait is horrible!Ignis Fatuus said:The descriptions of each tree on the official site are accurate. That's all I can say without breaking NDA.

No chance in hell this is a coincidence. It's shutting down on December 15th, which would give credence to a 2011 release for TOR.Xyrmellon said:Didn't see it posted anywhere else, and since it's most likely related to the Old Republic:

Blu Rays, Super Star Destroyer Lego Masterpiece set etc.
And September 15th is where billing ends for SWG

Depends on how long their contract terms are. They could've easily made this intentional.Zen said:I think SOE said that the contract was up in December, so the direct timing itself might be a coincidence.
Good, antonz, good. Now have everything regarding that prepared by the end of august, will you?antonz said:Marketing could practically write itself for September.

Marketing wise I am sure they are alot further along than most would expect. As things have gone they just refuse to talk. Theres no way things like Collectors Edition details etc arent laid out yet.Yasae said:Good, antonz, good. Now have everything regarding that prepared by the end of august, will you?
Gonaria said:They should stick a month free of SWOTOR card in the blue rays.
Itll get people to buy the movies who wouldnt and might get people to play the game who might not have
Might be worth it to get longterm subscribers, and you still need to buy the game itself. It's not a bad idea if the dates align.Derwind said:How much money would they lose if 3 quarters of there player base was playing for free for one month?
After raising my hype in the Wow thread you smash it back down to earth. Honestly, I would rather them get it as polished as they can and have a nice smooth launch. Also this summer and fall will be fairly busy at school for me so if it's winter then I can toss myself full force at this game.Blackface said:It won't happen. They've had CGs since '09. Their marketing has always been ahead setting up a smoke screen.antonz said:Marketing wise I am sure they are alot further along than most would expect. As is the case though whatever Beta phase they consider the potential Go Gold Beta phase will be the determining factor. If it goes well they will hit the go switch. If something major pops up they slam the breaks
Very true. Opening up Beta to the endgame though is usually a sign things are alot sooner than later.Yasae said:They've had CGs since '09. Their marketing has always been ahead setting up a smoke screen.
Development still feels behind schedule. Something's just off. I think if it were more in line with everything else happening the SW universe, nobody would mind "It's in 2011." The beta dates also feel a little behind the curve.
This is the perfect way to never have delays: never announce anything.
